What religion is correct if the Catholic religion isn't? Also, my doubts.

My doubts are:
  1. Is the Catholic belief in the literal flesh and blood of Jesus in the communion wafer real, or is it made up by someone? Where is the proof of this? And what is the point of consuming Christ’s body in the form of a wafer?
  2. Is the Catholic Communion of believers really the true Body of Christ? Where is the evidence to distinguish Catholic believers from other people to prove this claim?
  3. Is the Catholic Clergy particularly holy, or is it a sort of secret society of unusual people who don’t fit into the mainstream of ordinary life. Sometimes it seems like a good old boys club. How can I have faith that these men have special gifts from God to turn wine into blood when they seem so flawed?
These are my 3 most main doubts.

Then there is the general doubt about the very existance of God, and if there is no God, why is there matter, how did matter get made, meaning how did all the atoms get started? Then again, how did God get started, since how could there not be a God? How could there, how could there not?🤷

Now, if the Catholic religion is just one of many, and not the most true, then is there a truer religion? Or is religion just a cultural expression of Man’s need to explain the unexplainable?:confused:

Revelation 20:15, “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”
3 Jesus paid that price by dying on the cross and shedding His blood.
Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1st Timothy 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
1st Peter 1:18-19, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ…”
4 By faith in Jesus Christ ALONE we can be saved.
Salvation is NOT found in a religion or good works, but in a person…the LORD JESUS CHRIST!

John 11:25, “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:”
John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 6:40, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Acts 26:18, “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.”
Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
1st Corinthians 3:11, “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”
Galatians 3:26, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

HERE IS HOW YOU CALL UPON THE LORD

Do you admit that you are a sinner under the condemnation of God?

Do you admit that you deserve to burn in Hell?

Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God (God in the flesh) who died upon the cross and shed His precious blood to pay for your sins?

If you are willing to admit your sinfulness and would like for God to save your soul, just ask Him…

Dear Jesus,
I admit that I am a sinner, deserving of Hell. Please forgive me of my sins and take me to Heaven when I die. I now believe upon You alone, apart from all works and religion, as my personal Savior. Thank you. Amen.

Just as you were born physically to your parents, you were born spiritually into the Family of God when you believed on Jesus! (John 3:3). Please understand that we are not saved because we pray a prayer; but because we believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ. It is certainly appropriate to ask the Lord in prayer to forgive and save us; but it is our faith which prompted us to pray the prayer. You could just as easily believe in your heart upon the Lord to be saved, and not pray at all. Salvation is of the heart, as we read in Romans 10:10, “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness…”

You do NOT have to be baptized or doing anything to go to Heaven other than trust upon the Lord as your Savior … Romans 4:5, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” What a wonderful Savior!
 
Religion is the WORST thing that has ever happened to this world; Countless Billions of souls have been doomed to hell by false religion. Learn what the Bible has to say on the matter. We expose many false religions…not to be unkind…but because the truth has been hidden from the world’s masses. Just remember, religion didn’t die on the cross for you.
 
Jesus Christ is the ONLY Way to Heaven!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVETH IN HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). “For ye are all the children of God by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST” (Galatians 3:26). The Bible is clear concerning this matter—All people are to believe upon Jesus Christ. The main purpose for which Christ came into the world was to save sinners, “ For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be SAVED” (John 3:17). We are so blessed to have been made the object of God’s great love, “But God commendeth (demonstrated) his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). What a wonderful God! It is a happy thought when we realize just how much God loves us. God is not out to get us; rather, He wants us to live a happy, enjoyable life while serving Him in decency and uprightness. Most of all, God wants us to believe on His Son, Jesus Christ. To believe on the Son is to believe on the Father because Jesus and the Father are One. There is NO condemnation to those who are resting in Jesus Christ for salvation, “ There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1). The only safe place to be is in the everlasting arms of Christ. We must trust (rely) wholly upon Christ to forgive our sins and take us to Heaven. Those who do no believe on Christ are already condemned, “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is CONDEMNED ALREADY, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:18). We MUST put all our faith in Christ, there is NO other option. It’s Jesus or hell, turn or burn! What will you do with Jesus? The Bible tells us why people won’t come to Christ, “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were EVIL. For every one that doeth EVIL hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved” (John 3:19,20). We have no excuse if we miss Heaven, God has made salvation very simple and accessible to anyone. All we need to do is to put all our faith in Jesus Christ.
 
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9). Salvation is of the heart, NOT the mouth. I’ve actually heard radio preachers teach that a person needs to audibly profess Christ in order to be saved. Would you show me that in the Bible? On the contrary, we read the opposite in Matthew 7:21, “Not every one that saith unto me, LORD, LORD, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” We are NOT saved by saying certain magic words or by performing certain religious duties. The Scriptures are clear—we are saved by doing God’s will. These people in Matthew chapter seven were sincere I believe, they were religious no doubt. Let’s hear their testimony in Matthew 7:22, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?” They had done so many wonderful things “in Jesus name” but listen to what Jesus told them in Matthew 7:23, “And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Wow! These people had spent their lives prophesying “in Jesus name”, casting out devils “in Jesus name” and doing many wonderful works “in Jesus name.” Now their about to be cast into hell for their disobedience. They failed to do GOD’S WILL. People get the wrong impression that they can earn their way to heaven or merit salvation by their own works—this is a lie of the devil! There is NOTHING we can do to earn heaven, we ALL deserve to burn in hell.
 
The passage of Scripture we just read is perhaps the most shocking and eye-opening truth in the Bible. It’s hard to imagine these sincere people going to hell after spending so much time trying to help others in the name of Jesus. We learn several truths from this passage.

First, The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Many sincere and loving people will be shocked someday to find out that their name is NOT in the book of life. They thought they were going to heaven for any number of reasons but THEY WERE WRONG. “There is a way which SEEMETH RIGHT unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

Second, Many false religions operate in Jesus’ name. I cannot stress this fact enough, beware! I once witnessed to a Hispanic couple in their home concerning Christ. The man barely understood English, but the mother was able to understand. They had several wonderful children. The kids had been coming to our Baptist church on the church bus for awhile bus but then stopped coming. We kept visiting them on Saturdays. Unfortunately, this family had been caught up with the Jehovah Witnesses. I tried to explain to the mother that these people were NOT their friends and were not of God. She said, “but they talk about Jesus.” I explained Matthew chapter seven to her. She said, “but they came to visit me when I was in the hospital and brought me a box of food.” I did my best to open her eyes to the truth but she just wouldn’t listen. In her mind, anyone who came “in Jesus name” was of God and readily accepted into her home. I prayed with the family and then left. I only wish I could get people to realize that most religion is of the devil. Jesus said in Matthew 7:23 that false prophets are “workers of iniquity.”

Third, The only way to be saved is by doing GOD’S WILL. What is God’s will? We find the answer in John 6:40, “And this is the WILL of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” God’s will is for each and every person to see Jesus as He is portrayed in the Word of God and to believe on Him. Many religions will come to us but they have “another Jesus.” We must believe on Jesus Christ as he is presented by God’s Holy Word, as the true and living God. And then we must simply believe on Jesus Christ the best we know how for salvation and forgiveness of sins.

Fourth, We are NOT all God’s Children. I often hear these modernists and liberals speaking of how “we are all God’s Children.” Not so! We are all God’s creation, but we are definitely NOT all God’s Children. A “modernist” is someone who makes light of the Bible, a “liberal” is someone who doesn’t believe the Bible or deliberately disregards the Bible. These are not God’s Children Liberals are anti-authority and do what they feel like doing—”if it feels good, do it” attitude. These are the modern “free-thinkers” that discourage marriage, decency and respect for authority. Many endorse sodomy, abortion, gambling, nudity, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc. They have little or no purpose for God in their life. They are friends of the world and with the devil. Only those who are truly born-again can claim to be Children of God. Someone has foolishly taught that all rivers lead to the ocean. That depends! It depends on which was your traveling. Do all airplanes fly to Tokyo? Do all trains lead to Boston? Do you see how silly man’s reasoning can be?
 
For with the HEART man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). It is with our mouth that we can confess to others that we have been saved but it is only with the heart that we can believe on Christ and become saved. The confession of the mouth can only follow the believing of the heart. It is the believing of the heart that makes us righteous in God’s eyes because of Christ’s righteousness applied to our record. If we believe on Christ in our heart but fail to confess Him to others with our mouth, we are still saved. Why? Because it is “with the heart” that a person believeth unto righteousness. Mouth confession is optional. Surely it is a good idea to make a public confession to others that we have been saved, but this is NOT mandatory to salvation.

Neither is baptism necessary for salvation but it is something that God wants us to do if we have the opportunity to do so. When we get baptized, we are making a public profession of our faith. We are displaying outwardly what has happened inwardly. Baptism pictures the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We symbolize our faith in the Gospel in being baptized. It is similar to wearing a wedding ring. The ring doesn’t make you married, it is simply a symbol of ownership. You own each other. If the ring is destroyed, the marriage is still valid. Two people do not need a ring to be married in God’s eyes. Likewise, baptism does not save nor is it required to be saved. However, you must be saved before you can be legitimately baptized. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that BELIEVETH NOT shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). A wedding ring means nothing if you have no marriage. Likewise, baptism means nothing if you have not Christ in your heart. Salvation is of the heart, not baptism or anything else. It is NOT what you say that is important. What does matter is whether or not you believe in your HEART that Jesus is the Savior and that you have personally asked Him to forgive and save you. You need not open your mouth, Salvation is of the heart.

It’s real. It was “made-up” by Jesus Christ. The proof of this is in Holy Scripture and the testimony of the Church from the Apostles to the present. The point of it is a most Holy Communion. Jesus Christ since the Incarnation is not just spirit, but also a body. In Holy Communion we accept His entire being into our entire being.

In the second century we see St. Ireneaus proving this through the succession of bishops from the Apostles, especially the bishops of Rome from Peter.

The sacraments act ex opere operato . They are essentially acts of God. Regardless of the person holiness of the minister, God’s power is not restrained.

Serving Christ in the holy priesthood is a radical decision. It takes a special call from God and desire and ability to make sacrifices ordinary people never would. So in that case, they are not meant for ordinary society–instead that have been consecrated by God. At the same time, just as in OT times, priests can be and are sinners like the rest of us.

1.) Read John 6. The whole chapter is Jesus basically saying (literally), “You must eat my body and drink my blood to have life.” Also, the Last Supper, “This is my body, this is my blood…”
Revelations 7: 9-17 talks about the vision of the multitude of people, from all races and all nations, who are standing before the Throne and the Lamb. This is Heaven, and is also the Catholic Mass. The Mass is Heaven on earth, and we share in the Eternal Sacrifice, the Lamb. Some will say that we re-sacrifice Christ. Not so, for the Lamb is eternal, and we share in that eternal feast.

2.) We believe that the Eucharist is truly the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ. When the priest calls on the Holy Spirit to consecrate the bread and wine, that is transubstantiation. What the Holy Spirit sanctifies, Jesus is present.

3.) The priest during the Consecration is in a state called “In Persona Christi”. In other words, Jesus Himself is consecrating the bread and wine into Himself. A priest, in a state of mortal sin, is still able to perform Mass because of this. When you receive from the priest, you receive from Christ. How cool and awesome is that?!

For your other question about God… God is uncreated. He always was, is, and ever will be. God told Moses, “I Am who I Am, the One who Is. Tell them I Am sent you.”

God is eternal. He is the Alpha and the Omega. Us mere mortals are unable to perceive the depths of God’s existence.
No, we do not make up the idea of God simply to satisfy a need to explain things. God revealed Himself to us so that we may be with Him. Look at the other world religions, both past and present. None come close to the greatness of Christianity. None of their gods gave themselves up for the sake of humanity. Ours did and blessed be God forever!

Many people here on this forum had doubts about the Catholic faith. One of the things that I would suggest are the reading the writings of the Early Church Fathers. These are men who recieved the teachings of Christ from many of Christ’s disciples, including the Apostles. You may want to go to the main page of Catholic.com and see some of the articles posted about the faith.

The more you take an objective look at the Church, the more you can understand and discern if the Catholic faith is the true faith of Christ or not.

But what if the Bible is only a collection of Jewish myths and fokelore? The Bible is not a clear document. Wouldn’t basing one’s beliefs on it then be foolish? Maybe God is more of an energy force, like the Buddhaist claim, where we have a spark of the divine in all of us, at least that’s what I’ve heard from some people.
 
I am a practising Catholic at this time, however. Yet each day I have more doubts. But if I left the Church, where would I go? I don’t want to start all over.

The bolded line is what debunks your entire arguement. You say one must be saved to be baptized, and yet your proof says otherwise. DriftingAway, please ignore this. I'm sure the mods will take care of this for I am sure these posts are uncharitable and are against the rules.

It sounds like you are concerned about which religion is the “right” religion. I dont think there is one “right” religion. I’m a cradle Catholic and my husband is Hindu. Many Hindus believe that there is no “right” religion and that all religions are different paths to God.

I dont think anyone can prove that God exists, they just believe that He does. I suggest that you try studying some other non-Christian religions to get a different perspective on God. You never know it could make you a stronger Christian. Good luck in your search!

It is true, the Bible must be understood properly. It is the Church that verifies the Bible and it is Christ Himself–God-made man–who verifies the Church. The testimony of the Apostles’ horrific martyrdom’s bear witness to the reality of Christ. The Church can be traced to those very Apostles. The same beliefs have been handed down the whole time. 🙂

Which is not, of course, the same as saying that there is no “right” religion for any particular person. Religion X might be a path to God, but it might not be “right” for person Y.

I agree that – for many people – learning about non-Christian religions can help strengthen one’s Christian faith.

Really! And to think, Jesus never gave us that prayer!!! No thanks, I will stick with Jesus’s instruction on prayer:

14 Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle.

Doesn’t that mean that we should not depend on the Bible Alone?

Gen. 14:18 - this is the first time that the word “priest” is used in Old Testament. Melchizedek is both a priest and a king and he offers a bread and wine sacrifice to God.

Psalm 76:2 - Melchizedek is the king of Salem. Salem is the future Jeru-salem where Jesus, the eternal priest and king, established his new Kingdom and the Eucharistic sacrifice which He offered under the appearance of bread and wine.

Psalm 110:4 - this is the prophecy that Jesus will be the eternal priest and king in the same manner as this mysterious priest Melchizedek. This prophecy requires us to look for an eternal bread and wine sacrifice in the future. This prophecy is fulfilled only by the Eucharistic sacrifice of the Catholic Church.

**Malachi 1:11 -

For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down,
My name shall be great among the Gentiles;
In every place incense shall be offered to My name,
And a pure offering;
For My name shall be great among the nations,”
Says the LORD of hosts.

This is a prophecy of a pure offering that will be offered in every place from the rising of the sun to its setting. Thus, there will be only one sacrifice, but it will be offered in many places around the world. This prophecy is fulfilled only by the Catholic Church in the Masses around the world, where the sacrifice of Christ which transcends time and space is offered for our salvation. If this prophecy is not fulfilled by the Catholic Church, then Malachi is a false prophet. **

Lev. 17:11,14 - in the Old Testament, we see that the life of the flesh is the blood which could never be drunk. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ’s blood is the source of new life, and now must be drunk.
