What secular songs move you emotionally?

“Free” by Prince moves me. I first listened to this song 20 years ago (give or take) and thought it was so beautiful. A few years back, I went to a Prince concert (my first!) and when Prince sang “Free”, I noticed an old man near me crying and singing along to the song.
 
The impossible Dream is probably an all time favorite of mine…that with…Against the Wind and thats the story of my life…my lovely wife and all seven kids…we are hopeless romantics who love America and the RCC…see ya…Nino

A lot of secular songs move me, mainly the ones that remind me of God in some way or other.

Anyway - for some strange reason, Walking in Memphis ONLY the Marc Cohn version, and Let the River Run (New Jerusalem) by Carly Simon - both these songs have the ability to bring me to tears every time I hear them. And it’s not the lyrics really, but the music is extremely moving to me.

So - what moves you? What do you love to belt out in the car when no one is listening? 😃

How do you mean “move you emotionally”? There are some songs that inspire fear in me because of the way they paint the world, and the bizarre soundscapes that go along with it draw it out even more, some that seem to point towards the divine either by what they’re saying or how the music says it, some that are like “Awwwww…”… dunno what I’m supposed to answer here.
 
Mercy Now by Mary Gauthier. It’s a tearjerker. In fact the whole album it came off of is.

Oh that reminds me ( seeing the word Mercy reminded me of the band Mercy Me lol thanks:) ) The song I Can Only Imagine really moves me also…
 
Tulips from Amsterdam(timeless, reminds me of how spring comes every year), Yellow submarine(I’d LOVE to live in a yellow submarine),Amhain Na Bhian(thats patriotic but it reminds me of how nice it is to be Irish), what a wonderful world(reminds me of how nice God’s world is)the 4 seasons by Vivaldi(I just love those concertoes), Lady greensleeves(what a beautiful tune) and Eidelweiss(I like those flowers).I like quite a variety of music.🙂

Hullo, from Australia, Ilisten a lot (from youtube) to music by Irish artists, including Mary
Duff. Near the top favourite, ROAD TO EDEN. You might take a listen.

If you’re from Australia, you might be familiar with Paul Kelly & The Messengers - “Before Too Long” is one of the most moving and inspiring secular songs I have ever heard. Outside of alternative-music circles, he’s not too well-known in the U.S.

Also, “Keep The Car Running” by Arcade Fire, both the original album version as well as the acoustic cover by Foo Fighters. That’s another one that moves me emotionally.
 
Byrds adaptation of “He was a friend of mine” - I wasn’t even alive when Kennedy was shot but this song makes me cry.
