What secular songs move you emotionally?

The saddest song I’ve ever heard is “Brick” by Ben Folds Five. For those who haven’t heard it, it tells the true story of how a young Ben Folds drove his girlfriend to an abortion clinic, what he did while he waited for her to have the abortion and the aftermath of this decision. I just can’t listen to this song anymore because it’s so painfully heartbreaking. The line that gets me bawling is when Ben sings to his unborn child “Can’t you see it’s not me you’re dying for.” Gutwrenching.
 
When I replied for the first time, I forgot to add *Earth Song * by Michael Jackson, The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics, What’s Left of Me by Nick Lachey, I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner, Every Beat of My Heart by Rod Stewart, No Matter What by Boyzone and every songs by Westlife which were singles! :banghead:

Brick is a powerful I agree. Benfolds lets the listener into his heart and mind as he’s going through this and the pain that’s tearing at his soul and the reality of the decision. The soul becomes a brick, because an innocent life has been taken

Wow, I’ve always loved that song, but never listened to the lyrics too closely. That’s so sad 😦 :crying: :crying: :crying:

I’ve never heard this song and was about to look it up online. Wow. It broke my heart.
 
Wow! That is a good question. I really like “There Goes My Life” by Kenny Chesney because it deals with a pregnancy. I also like “Anyway” by Martina McBride. She sang it at the Country awards and I cried. “Alyssa Lies” by John Carol Michael (I think?) which is about child abuse. I can go on!!!
 
A lot of trance does, with its beautiful melodies / harmonies:

“Adagio for Strings” - Tiesto
“Hands Up” - Master Blaster - this is a goofy one, since it usually would be dismissed as “clubbing” music. But that chord progession right after the first part is amazing.

Forbidden Love by Madonna from her Confessions on a Dancefloor album. Even though she is my favorite artist I don’t always agree with everything controversial that she does (and pray for her conversion regularly) but I can identify with this song. I suffer from SSA and this song always reminds me of what I can never have:(.
 
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland always makes me cry.

“Singin’ in the Rain” is my theme song

“So This is Love,” from Disney’s Cinderella makes me think of receiving the Eucharist. Sometimes I sing it in adoration if there is no one else there. Here are the lyrics:

Actually, it is not a secular song.
It was sung at the funerals of British statesman Winston Churchill, American senator Robert Kennedy, and American presidents Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon.
