Mr. Big - “Defying Gravity”

New music from an old 80’s band. Bassist Billy Sheehan considered one of the all-time best in his field, and Paul Gilbert ranks among the top shred rock/metal guitarists today.

Billy Sheehan is very talented - as well as, Paul Gilbert.

I am not much of a fan of the music written by Billy, Richie Kotzen (former Mr Big) and Mike Portnoy (former Dream Theater) in The Winery Dogs yet I was given a DVD of their live performance and impressed with all their musical skills. Interesting how the Japanese love 80’s type power rock?

Almost forgot about Richie Kotzen. We knew of him before he became famous. He lived not far from where our band was playing around at the time. I heard he was sending tape after tape of his music to someone at Geffen Records. Not long after that he was hired as the guitarist for Poison.

The guitarists in our band were like “Ohhhh Maaaaaann!” 😛

I recall guys I played with back in the 70’s… some who went on to become known names some never known. The disparity in talent wasn’t always the dividing force. 🙂

Ritchie certainly has a unique style for a guy playing a Telecaster. It may have set him apart. 🤷 When one thinks of young guns playing Tele’s – they might imagine **this type stuff ** – yet hearing something different yet well played, left someone impressed.

I love to hear multiple interpretations of a song. For example the jazz pop classic, " I’ll see you in my dreams".

“The Minstrel Boy”, & “The Son of God Goes Forth to War”. Same basic music, just contemplating how the latter was adopted to the music of the former, and to other tunes.

My wife and daughter convinced me to join them to see the Celtic Woman in concert … Frankly, I was moved with the spiritual song, ** You Raise Me Up**
