In the catholic faith, Uncle John can go to hell and aunt Mary can go to heaven. Not good. In the mormon faith, uncle john goes to the terrestial (a degree of glory) and aunt mary goes to the celestial (the highest degree of glory). Which one would you choose for Uncle John?
That’s not up to me to choose; that’s up to Uncle John.

As Matthew 7:21 says, “Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

And yet, mormonism is very Pauline in context and in conture.
Continuing public revelation (which purports to correct, supplement, or complete the Christian faith – which is what Mormon “revelations” claim to do)?

Plural heavens?

A plurality of gods?

How Pauline is that?

I think Rebecca you should read what Christ said again. Mathew 22:30:

For in the resurrection hey neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven.

This can perhaps be true ‘in the resurrection’. But once they get to heaven, they will find their partner. In the resurrection they are like angels in heaven but they are not angels when they get to heaven. Christ did a pretty good play on words here.
You are misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God.

No I don’t. The Nicene creed cannot be used as a barometer for what is a Christian. There was no such creed among Paul and James.
Of course it can. The Christian faith needed to be written out in the face of attacks from heretics. There is not a single thing in the Creed that you can point to that you cant find preached by St. Paul.
The entire Church, came to agreement on it. This is the Symbol of our Faith.

On the other hand you cant get past the first sentence, nay, the first few words of the Creed with Mormonism… “I believe in One God, The Father almighty , maker of Heaven and Earth and of all things visible and invisible”

Mormonism is not Christianity by any reasonable measure.

Mormonism is the only form of true Christianity. What you believe in is an apostate, false, and dead religion, and the antithesis of true Christianity.

My religion conforms with the Christian Creed the very Symbol of Faith agreed upon by the entire Church.

My religion conforms with the Scriptures

My religion conforms with the entirety of the Christian Tradition from it’s founding.

My religion is Apostolic, each Bishop can directly trace his ordination and those who came before him to a specific Apostle.

My religion has guarded and protected the original deposit of faith from the day of Pentecost.

Your religion is similar to several early heresies, has no connection to the historical Church does not conform with the scriptures or Symbol of Faith and resembles the pop culture of the 19th century. Its theology and Christology are anathema to Christianity have no relation to it and cant be called “Christian” in any sense of the term.

Zerinus,
You can repeat the same tired, old argument until hell freezes over and you will still be wrong. Mormonism is a false, ersatz, artificial, contrived, made-up,untrue, man-made and illogical religion that has no basis in fact. Understand?

Your style of debate appears to be nothing more than just a slinging match to see who can throw more diatribes at the other. It has no substance to it at all. That is easy to match:
My religion conforms with the Christian Creed the very Symbol of Faith agreed upon by the entire Church.
Your religion is apostate. It apostatized centuries ago when the Apostles died. The “Creeds” and the “Symbols of Faith” were formulated by an apostate religion with no authority from God. And they certainly were not “agreed upon by the entire church”.
My religion conforms with the Scriptures.
It does not.
My religion conforms with the entirety of the Christian Tradition from it’s founding.
Your religion conforms to an apostate Christian Tradition which is false and not true Christianity at all.
My religion is Apostolic, each Bishop can directly trace his ordination and those who came before him to a specific Apostle.
It is not. The line of authority was broken when the Apostles died. Your bishops have not a particle of Apostolic authority behind them whatsoever.
My religion has guarded and protected the original deposit of faith from the day of Pentecost.
Your religion went into apostasy, and corrupted the “original deposit of faith” from the day of Pentecost.
Your religion is similar to several early heresies, . . .
The LDS Church is a restoration of the original Church of Christ by revelation in the latter days, and is the only true Christian Church in the world today.

Unfortunately, you are not the arbiter of who is Christian and who is not. If faith and works were the only criteria, even moslems would qualify as Christians. Also, you did not answer my question about your profile. Which is it, Catholic or mormon?
Neither are you. Faith and works are important. By faith, I meant in the lord, Jesus Christ.

For the first 18 years of my life, I was catholic. From 18 to 50, I was a Mormon. Now I attend Mass and enjoy the people around me. I suppose that I am a little like Marie and Donny Osmond, a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll.

Both faiths are faith promoting and good. I will speak no evil of both.

This says it all about the problem that we are having about the Nicene Creed:

Groups such as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, The Church of the New Jerusalem and Jehovah’s Witnesses, while accepting the Christian Scriptures, reject the Nicene Creed as false. They identify themselves emphatically as Christians, an identification strongly contested by some others. This clash over what constitutes Christianity or a Christian has in some countries, such as the United States, led to litigation with charges and counter-charges over theological issues relating to the definition of “Christian”, and allegations as wide-ranging as slander, perjury, discrimination, and breach of contract.

While not necessarily rejecting the Nicene Creed as erroneous, some evangelical Christians, on the basis of their sola scriptura view, consider it as in no way authoritative, since it is not part of the Bible. (wiki)

It seems that many people are not Christian according to some posters on this forum. Can god be so exclusive? I don’ think so.

This is the teaching of mormonism, how can you claim to support a “religion” that makes such a statement? Does zerinus speak truth, or is he a liar?

Of course people can use the term "Christian " very loosly. Simply by being borninto a Chrisitian family they will identify themselves as being Christian event though they may have never once been inside a Church.

What we are saying here is that Moromism does not resemble the Christian Faith in it’s doctrines or practices.

I will correct that for you one more time, shall I? What you mean to say is that “Mormonism does not resemble the Apostate Christian Faith in it’s doctrines or practices”. That is probably a true statement.

And let me point out once more Catholics take on the exact OPPOSITE view of this. The Church NEVER fell away and we represent a 2000 year continuity, Jesus is not a failure and His Church didnt flop…take the “inverse” of this situation and you have the LDS: the Gospel has been lost for 1800 years, Jesus was essentially a failure in passing on the Gospel, His Church flopped.

This important bit of information needs to be kept front and center because the stakes are high and the charges are very significant.

zerinus has a real problem with comprehension. He does not understand that mormonism is a failed belief system, as are all belief systems that are false and man-made, particularly those centered around one man (Joseph Smith) Others that come to mind are The People’s Temple (Jim Jones) Branch Davidians (David Koresh). They too, had their own idea of true religion. The True Founder (Jesus Christ) taught a faith that has lasted for nearly two thousand years, guarded by the Church that He founded, The Holy Catholic Church. Mormonism is merely a sham perpetrated by a succession of ecclesiastical con-men. Sorry zerinus, you and your fellow mormons cannot turn the sow’s ear into a silk purse.

Thank you for your patience with me. However, Mormonism does not resemble the Christian religion as it has been understood throughout the world through all of it’s history. Mormonism isn’t even a Monotheistic religion, which is the bare minimum for entry into serious consideration as being Christian. Islam appears to have more common with Christianity then you do.

As for you claim that the Christian religion is somehow “Apostate” I keep asking you for details. When did this happen? What happened…exactly? Details please. You seem to not be able to answer, at least so far.

Your religion went into apostasy, and corrupted the “original deposit of faith” from the day of Pentecost.
If the early Christian Church got corrupted after Pentecost, then why do you have all the books in your bible that happened after Pentecost? Actually, why do you have the same New Testament books as us because all the New Testament books were all written after Pentecost.

And also by saying that the Church got corrupted, you’re calling Jesus a lier when he said “I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18 because you’re saying the “gates of hell prevailed” for 1800 years.

Our Mormon friend seems to have only absorbed the worst of Protestant myths and not benefited by any of their good points.

Never heard it put that way before, but that is essentially true.

A cornerstone of Protestantism (and its offshoots) is that the only thing that is certain is that the Catholic Church has got all it wrong, the true details of when the church supposedly went belly up are secondary details that are best left unanswered.

Mormonism has it worse than Protestantism. First, mormons believe that from the time of Christ onward, God abandoned His creations, us humans, entirely. There was no Truth to be found, anywhere. God kept the entire human race in darkness until Joseph Smith. This refutes everything that Jesus taught, in essence, names Him a liar.

Second, that Joseph Smith was greater than Christ. Christ’s mission to begin His Church on this earth failed. Where Christ failed, Joseph Smith succeeded. Smith had this view himself:

“I have more to boast of than any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such work as I (History of the Church, Vol.6, pp. 408-09).”
