Our parish, where we regularly attend mass, has confession scheduled for after the masses given on Saturdays. (both 9am and 5:30pm masses) I have been going to Confession at a different parish (one we attended when we first moved to FL) and that time is from 3:30 to 4:15pm. Typically, it’s convenient, some days it’s not. The priest is sometimes late, and the lines are very long, and it often turns into an hour long or more excursion for us as a family. Maybe I need to be praying for patience or something.😊

We decided today, after leaving because the priest didn’t show, and it was going on 3:45pm, that after the 9am mass on Saturdays would be a better time for us, and frankly, I’d like to go to Confession at the parish where we belong.

So…just thought I’d ask everyone what time is your Sacrament of Penance within your parish…and does that time work for you?

3-3:30 Saturday, or by appointment.

I can’t stand it. I wish we had it before every Mass, like some of the parishes in the area have. However, we have one priest, who had been the sole caretaker of his elderly, ailing mother. She recently passed, and so perhaps he will decide to expand time Confession is offered. 🤷

Monday thru Friday confessions are heard 15 minutes before all masses, so that’s @ 11:45 and 4:45 every weekday. Saturday confessions are heard from 4 pm - 5 pm. If the weekday times are not convenient for me, there’s another chapel close to my home parish which hears confessions from 9:30 am - 11:15 am, and then again from 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm. This particular chapel is in the heart of downtown, it’s meant to assist working folks.

We have 5 priests though, three on staff, and two in residence. Besides that, there are about 6 parishes within 5 miles of my home, maybe more.

Just one hour a week, Saturday 4:00 - 5:00 PM. I wish they’d add some times. A few other parishes in the archdiocese offer more options, but they are difficult to get to. 😦

Our parish has confessions on Saturdays from 3:00 - 3:30. The priest is always there and there is never much of a line, so we are usually able to make that work on our every couple of months schedule.

They also have confessions “15 minutes before weekday Masses”. Mass is at 6:30 am on Monday, Thursday and Friday and at 12:15 on Wednesdays. I’m not sure what “15 minutes before” weekday Mass is - does it start at 6:15? 6:10-6:25??? I went for the first time in this time slot a few weeks ago. I was there at 6:00. The priest set up the altar for Mass, then went and sat down in the back pew by the confessional and read/prayed for a little while. Then he got up and went in the confessional. There was at least one other person there with me. I would have never thought my brain would be awake enough at that time to confess, but it all went well. I could see myself making use of that time again.

We have only one priest and he has a full time job at the diocese in addition to being our pastor. We do not have long lines for confession, so I doubt hours will be expanded any time soon.

However, I think it makes a ton of sense to have confessions before Sunday Masses.

Before Divine Liturgy and by Appointment.

Local roman parish: 1pm saturdays, until done or 3pm, whichever is longer. Be early, always a line.

Local roman cathedral: 3:30pm saturdays and by appointment. I’ve seen lines of up to 100. Show up at 3 if you want to be out before 4pm. tends to end at 5:25, due to mass, but if the line is long, may continue during or after mass.

The official time is 4-5 pm on Saturdays, before the 5:30 pm Mass, but if there some still waiting at 5 pm, the pastor goes as long as he can until he has to put on his vestments for Mass. He’s very welcoming to those making an appointment for a different time, though. His schedule is very full, but if he has the time, he will do it on no notice at all. It is clearly a high priority for him.

Oh, and during Advent and Lent, he and priests from the local parishes have “reconcilliation services”…typically, a communal examination of conscience with six or eight priests available to hear private confessions afterward.

During all Masses (in practise before, since the priests usually show up around 5 minutes early, sometimes more) or by appointment.

What I really need patience for is people cutting the line on “obligation Mass” days. My church is usually quite crowded on those days with people standing in the aisles as well (and hence near the confessional). Someone will come and stand in the “non-confession” lines looking as if they are listening to the priest or the reader or whoever, and before you know it, the door opens and they slip in. Or a second priest will come, and despite the fact that you’ve been standing for half an hour, a whole bunch of people will form a second line. And you can’t get angry because after all, you’re in church and going to confession. Grrrr.

Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 (Mass is at 5). If there is a long line, that usually leaves enough time to accommodate everyone. Also, anytime by appointment – usually can be before the 8 a.m. daily Mass or scheduled around the many parish activities. I’ve found it works quite well though I don’t necessarily stay for the 5 p.m. Mass as I teach Religious Education between the 2 Sunday Masses (IOW, from 9:45 to 10:45) so I usually prefer to go to the 8:30 mass and then teach. But I can go to the library on a Saturday before or after confession so that I am not ‘just’ going downtown for confession. Considering that I don’t drive, I try not to just do ‘one’ thing at a time as it takes some manipulation to either work the bus schedules or walk back and forth (church is 1 1/2 miles away) and I’m not getting any younger (over the 50 line and rapidly sliding!)

I agree–it’s nice if it would fall right before mass. I went tonight…finally made it today, didn’t think it was gonna happen:blush: , and we all went (my kids and me–hubby’s working) after mass, which was different, but really a beautiful experience, always. I might start going after the 9am mass on Saturdays…that is a good time, too.

😃 Um, yeah…that would be kind of defeating the purpose. lol I hear ya. I also wonder at times what people are thinking who go into the confessional for 30 minutes, week after week. I mean, God bless them for needing the time to confess, but I have noticed that it’s typically the same person or few people who do this week after week. If you need to have a heart to heart with father, then arrange an appt. A lot of people are sometimes waiting on line for confession, and also want to go to mass right afterwards (there is a 4:30pm mass at the parish I typically go for confession). Oh well…I believe it builds patience, something I lack at times greatly!😊

We have confessions from 5:00 - 5:20 on Friday and 4:00 - 5:00 on Saturday. Our new pastor and associate pastor want to add more times though because an hour and twenty minutes isn’t nearly enough. Our previous two priests had two full-time jobs and couldn’t do anymore. It’s nice to have two priests that only work at our parish. They have tossed around the idea of having confessions everyday. That would be fantastic and ideal.

Saturday, Eve of Holy Day, Thursday before First Friday: 2:30-3:30 & 7:30-8:00 p.m.
Sunday: 45 min. before the 9:30 a.m. and Noon Mass until the Gospel starts.

If I need to go during the week, there are multiple parishes close by that has confessions. One has them every day after the 6:30 AM Mass

The Cathedral where we have our EF Mass schedules confessfion from 3:30 to 4:00 Saturday afternoons. Our chaplain for the EF Mass hears them before our Sunday Mass.
There is a parish closer to me that also hears confessions from 3:30 to 4:00 Saturday afternoons. I either go there, or to our chaplain on Sunday.

Every day before the two Daily Masses so that would be 8:30 a.m. until Mass starts at 9 and 5:30 p.m. before Mass starts at 6 p.m. Saturday is different, there are confessions heard 8:30 a.m. until the 9 a.m. Mass starts and then 4 p.m. until the 5 p.m. Sunday obligation Mass starts and then after that Mass until all are heard. Then on Sunday right before the LIfeTeen Mass the Priests will come over and hear the Teens confessions.

Yes, we have a lot of Confession times but it can get really frustrating if you get there at 8:30 and are only third or fourth in line and get turned away three times before you finally get your confession heard! I prefer going after the Saturday evening Mass because then you don’t get turned away or during the many extra times during Advent and Lent!

Saturdays from 3:30 to 4:30pm, also by appointment. Sometimes this elderly priest hears Penance but he’s usually late by about 15 - 20 minutes, but he always leaves on time unless it’s during Lent (since the lines get a little longer).

Gets a bit tricky on first Saturdays because Penance coincides with Perpetual Help and I’m part of the leadership for that…and I’m not a big fan of scheduling Penance appointments because, well…I dunno. Just don’t like it unless there’s a serious emergency going on.

We are lucky to have a lot of confession times:

Monday thru Friday: 5:00 to 5:25 pm (before the 5:30pm Mass). Usually one priest, but if there are a lot of people in line a second priest will often come out to help out.

Saturday: 3:00 to 4:00 and 7:45 to 8:30 pm.

I sometimes to go a different parish down the road; they have confessions on Saturday from 4 to 5pm. Not sure about weekdays.

Confessions are heard 1/2 hour before each Mass and between 1:00 and 4:00 on Saturdays.

Our is following the 8am Sat. morning mass and
7:30pm Tuesday nights or by appt.

This is good because after saturday morning mass there are several hours available… and tuesday night is great because the priest stays as long as it takes and for all those who may have to work on saturday (like retail associates) this is a conveient time.
