What time does your parish have Sacrament of Penance?

Ours is on Saturdays before the vigil Mass. From 4-4:45. It’s okay for me. Sometimes I do music at that Mass and since we rehearse right before hand, I’m already there.

It’s also been available by appointment, but I personally feel weird about requesting an appointment–especially if all I’ve got to confess are venial sins. :o

There’s a parish closer to me that has confessions before their daily Mass. That’s been a good resource for me if I’ve got a biggie to confess mid week. 😃

Our official schedule is from 4:00 to 5:00 on Saturday afternoons in the main parish. At the mission parish, it’s stated as after Sunday Mass, as it was difficult to get there early enough with just one priest. We also are willing to celebrate the sacrament by appointment, like most priests, but “by appointment” occasionally includes being asked for Confession before or after daily Mass. Also the 5:00 end is very flexible, as we will remain as long as necessary. Last week, it was 5:30 when I left the confessional. 👍 I wish that all parishes had this “problem”.

It seems that weekend afternoons are popular. In our parish back in PA, confession took place every Tuesday evening at 7pm…looking back I complained about that time, too. lol I guess I want a different time every week to suit me. 😛

Looking back, Tues evenings were perfect…!!:o

Saturday evening from 4:30-4:55 before the 5:00 Mass similar to most parishes.

And then on Sunday morning from 8:30-8:55 before the 9:00 Mass. I believe this was added because of large numbers of requests from people attending this Mass.

The parish also has a 11:00 and 5:00 Sunday Mass. No confession scheduled before these. But Fr. is always willing to hear a confession if asked.

One of the great things about the Columbus area is that there is a parish downtown where confessions are heard 7 days a week. This parish is easily accessible from anywhere in town or most of the suburbs.

Confessions are heard after the 11:45 daily Mass from 12:15 until finished. Saturdays from 4:00-5:00 before the 5:00 Mass. And on Sundays for 1/2 hour before the 7:00, 9:00, 10:30, and 12:00 Mass.

Most of the suburban parishes do the standard Saturday evening confession time. But, I can think of another downtown parish that has its weekly scheduled time at 5:30 on Friday evenings. That one is pretty convenient for alot of people.

Hi James–wow, so many times available–lucky you!

During the week, when I lived in PA and worked in downtown Pittsburgh, I remember a parish (one of the oldest in the state!) that had confession daily, and twice daily during Lent. I thought that was so special. It was also a parish that was highly visited because it was in the middle of the city, and a lot of people (like me) would attend during the week for holy days of obligation, or just because I wanted to attend a weekly mass, and it was so close to my work. Plus, this parish offered a televised mass, too–so, it was very popular in town. I know that not all parishes can offer daily confession, but that sure would make it easier for me.😉

for 45 minutes before the 5:30 PM saturday Mass.

Same goes for the other close parish, except theirs starts a little earlier, because their Mass starts at 5.

I really wish they had Sunday confessions, it would be so much easier to go before the Mass I go to than to make a special trip in the middle of my day to do things with friends. Especially when I was still in school, Saturday was like my only day off to do things.

Of course if we could get a second priest, it could probably be improved, but as it is we only have one priest, 69 years old. Who is also not in terrific health. However he apparently doesn’t “play well with others” as some people have put it. He likes to try and do everything.

I like your username, Senor.🙂

Yes, I think that even if there could be one time during the week, and one on the weekend, just to be more flexible would be nice. I go to confession every few weeks to a month, if I went infrequently, it probably wouldn’t bother me as much. Well, it doesn’t bother me, just would be nice to have more times available. But, I like the schedule for the parish we attend…I didn’t realize they have two times per week, so I probably will either go like we did today, after the saturday evening mass–or–on sat mornings.

We are lucky to have a lot of confession times:

Monday thru Friday: 5:00 to 5:25 pm (before the 5:30pm Mass). Usually one priest, but if there are a lot of people in line a second priest will often come out to help out.

Saturday: 3:00 to 4:00 and 7:45 to 8:30 pm.

I sometimes to go a different parish down the road; they have confessions on Saturday from 4 to 5pm. Not sure about weekdays.
I agree, this is really nice!

9-10 on Saturday mornings and 3:15-4:15 on Saturday evenings or by appointment.

It doesn’ t work out at all for those of us who work Saturdays (I work 6:30 A.M. until 3: 30 P.M.). But I guess there aren’t that many of us.

A lot of you list times right before Mass. How does this work?

We have three priests and nine weekend Masses (two Sat vigils, six Masses on Sunday mornings, including a Children’s Mass, and the Life Teen Mass at 6 on Sunday evening). All the Masses are fairly full (some are standing room only, e.g., the 4:30 vigil and the 9:30 Sunday Mass).

We also have two daily Masses, 6:30 and 8: 30.

I can see how it would work out well for the daily Masses, but I think the weekends must be really tough now with just Masses. Even though the priests take turns saying Mass on Sunday mornings, they are still rushing about. I think it would be exhausting just saying two Masses, let alone adding Confessions to the schedule.

I know that the priests will hear a Confession if you ask. But I think that if they scheduled Confession before Mass, there would be long lines, and Father would basically be busy all morning from 6 A.M. until 1: 00 P.M. on Sundays. Seven hours at a stretch sounds tough to me.

How does it work out at your parishes?

Wednesday 6pm-7pm
Friday 6pm-7pm
Saturday 5pm-6pm

Outside the above times we can arrange appointments.

Wednesday 5:45pm to 7pm

Saturday 3pm with no set ending time. I have heard Fr. say he often stays for 2 hours or more.

1st Saturday 9am-11am

I usually confess at the local Opus Dei centre. It’s great 🙂 I can confess in latin (well, only the formulas are in latin, of course), and the priests are quite orthodox.

Confessions are heard 1/2 hour before each Mass and between 1:00 and 4:00 on Saturdays.
I added it up recently, and our parish offers at least 27 scheduled opportunities for confession each week! 👍

My parish has Confession on Saturday from 2:30-3:30 p.m. I usually go to Confession during the week at a Shrine parish that has Confession every day at 11:30 a.m. It is more convenient than going on Saturday afternoons.

The Parish I attend our Sacrament of Penance is

Saturday at 4:45 in the Chapel or by Appointment

Sometimes I have it where there is hardly anyone waiting and there has been a time where there has been a small line, As a new member of the parish sometimes that small line is helpful because I get nervous before confession.

I am sure some of you get nervous too, I have not been to confession lately but I think it is time to go back.

Yes, I have been nervous before, but somehow that shows our vulnerability, and weakness before God, I think. :o

Our priest is really good about confessions. 1/2 hour before EVERY mass and any time by appointment.

I belong to a small downtown parish that offers the Sacrament of Reconciliation before daily Mass and Saturdays before the Vigil Mass.

Ours is the hour before Saturday evening Mass. I always made an appt, because sometimes it would evolve into a lot more than just confession and absolution.

We’re in pastoral transition now, and I had the joy of confessing to a 92yr old supply priest. He shook my hand, then cupped both hands behind his ears and shouted, “YOU MAY BEGIN YOUR CONFESSION!”

So I kept that one very short and sweet, not knowing how much he could actually hear. And then he looked at me and said, “SOMETIMES WE FEEL LIKE WE ONLY HAVE LITTLE THINGS TO CONFESS, BUT WHEN WE TAKE CARE OF THOSE, WE NEVER END UP WITH ANY BIG THINGS TO CONFESS!”

Slightly ot, but I wanted to share the smile 🙂

Saturdays 4:45 to 5:20 pm or by appointment.

Our pastor has asked that if you have something really involved that you need to discuss that you call and make an appointment.

Our PV will sit in the bleachers at the school while the children are in recess and he is a regular on Sunday nights for our youth group. The children will just go up to him and he will hear their confessions anytime, anywhere.
