Was Msgr. Perl not clear? (My bits are in red)

Answer the question I asked, if you please. Do YOU think that the Holy See wants people to go to SSPX Masses?
I know it wasn’t me you asked, but I don’t think they like it. That’s why wherever SSPX opens up a chapel or church, the indult TLM follows. And it may be a big part of why the Motu Proprio will soon be released.

I don’t care for that, either (I don’t like the looks of that church at all). But Jewish altars looked like big stone tables (you couldn’t see under them, from all the depictions that I’ve seen, and they had horns on their corners). The altar is what the Church says it is.

But we’re not Jewish.

And I will welcome it! I’ve often thought that my bishop had a serious moral obligation to go after the 75-100 souls that attend the mass at the local SSPX chapel, that he should “let down his nets,” as it were, by insuring that there was a least one convenient Indult Mass, if not more. I think it’s sad that he hasn’t.

But we have Jewish antecedents. And if we want to make a case for Christian antecedents, well, the first masses (not to mention the very FIRST) were celebrated on tables in houses, in my opinion, a poor reason not to have substantial and dignified altars now. As I said, I don’t care in the least for that altar.

Amen!

That’s what I hope happens in our area if the UI goes through.

We want all those stuck up Traditionalist right at our traditional NO parish 😉
Seriously 😃

JKIRK, we are on the same page! How about that? 😉 Every bishop should seek a return of the SSPX by offering the indult TLM.

I’m always pleased with being able to reach a point of understanding where there wasn’t before.

Honestly, ours is solid marble and one cannot see under it,
so it’s more like what you are describing.🙂

Ours is as well (put in before the roof of the church was put on), but you can see under it. It is kept completely covered by a cloth in the proper liturgical color for the season, on which the fair linen is spread.

ours is the same way…we even have the High Altar…🙂
We don’t, but there’s plenty of room for the priest to someday offer the Holy Sacrifice ad orientum (well, at least versus populum, as it isn’t oriented to true East).

Nice table I see above. Hmph, thats what qualifies as an altar now I guess…

Isnt there something in the GIRM that says that even freestanding altars have to be solid or made of stone or marble or something like that?

My favorite altar has to be the High Altar of St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, run by the ICRSS,

Caesar: That is truly a worthy and beautiful altar.

Gotta hand it to the ICRSS. They really know how to keep the Mass sacred.
