I agree with you gepnav that there are dark clouds over the Christians these days and getting worse. I disagree with your prediction that protestants will join the RCC in mass. I base this on the fact that many “mainline liberals” will give up on Christianity totally once the going gets rough. The conservatives will never join the RCC unless it reforms itself and gets back to the Bible.

I for one don’t see (the institutional church) membership as a condition of salvation. Granted, it has it’s rewards and advantages though.

It is funny to me that protestants keep claiming that Catholics don’t follow the Bible! Faith alone and Bible alone are not found in teh bible yet protestants still believe them. Learn what Catholics believe before you claim that their beliefs are not from scripture.

Adam I have ran into your responses quite often in the last few months. And I see that you are truly searching for the truth. And I know you will find it. And it will be throught the doors of the RCC. I do not know when but I do know it will happen.

I am praying for you Adam.
Thanks for your kind words and prayers. I am not searching for the truth, because I already know the truth that has set me free. Thanks for reading my responses and post. They are intended for all of us to grow in our love and affection for our God.

The watchword of the Reformation became Saint Paul’s summary of the gospel: “The just (justified, saved) shall live [have eternal life] by faith [in Christ]” (Rom 1: 17) This is from a Catholic source - 2nd link below. 😉

nobody said the RCC didn’t need reforming in some areas at that time. So they were doing some things that were wrong, but they were not teaching wrongly on Faith and Morals which would be impossible because they are protected by the HS til the end of the age.
I believe like you eveyone expects the Pope and Bishops to be perfect. Only God is perfect. They are human like us. Look at Peter and Paul they were human. But people still believed Jesus when he promised them the gift of the HS to teach us our faith.

What has changed? Do you not think Peter and Paul failed as human beings at times and sinned? Do you not understand that the Pope goes to confession daily to stay in the grace Of Jesus Christ.

The Pope and Bishops are only promised the gift of the HS to teach us the truth as far as the word of God. The same as Peter and Paul and the rest of the Apostles. But all humans can sin. The HS teaches so it cannot sin or be wrong. But the Pope and Bishops can sin when they are living daily life. Why can people not understand this.

I disagree with you on this. I believe when by the Power of the HS they have their eyes opened that the Eucharist is the living Christ the will come back. It has not been revealed to them yet, but when it is they will run not walk to the RCC. And when they learn the Communion is just not a symbol it is the ONE AND ONLY Jesus Christ,

Because that is the reason I would or COULD never possibly leave the RCC is communion. And I agree that every Catholic would agree with me on that. Its the sacraments that do it for the Catholics. IF protestants really understood them they would agree with me.

Yes, Jon, it’s true that Protestants will only straggle in, and the wishy-washy Protestants will just wander off to hell. But I suspect that even Bible-based Protestants will seek shelter under the RCC tent as the winds howl. And it’s interesting to see Catholic Bible studies springing up. Used to be as rare as square dancing classes for corporate lawyers.

I took a break from my feeble Protestant church and visited the little small-town Catholic church around the corner. Praise God! There were hundreds of folks there, and that was one of two Masses. More than 1500 members, according to the priest. Our church gets 60-some on good Sundays, and that’s the only service. A snapshot of the future?

I think the same thing that is needed for humans to care and love for each other without strife, the change of heart of all individuals. I have no idea how that is gonna happen though.

I am already catholic, without joining the Catholic Church. Actually, in the United States of America, Protestants greatly outnumber Catholics. This country was founded on Calvinism Christianity. Who came over on the Mayflower?

We escaped the Church of England and the Church of Rome! (just kidding)…
You are deluding yourself.

Here’s a challenge for you:

Name one belief or practice of the early Christian Church that is exclusively protestant.

I can name several that are exclusively Catholic(or more specifically non protestant, because most of these beliefs are shared by the Orthodox).

Are we saying the early Christian Church as in the book of Acts? We break bread in our homes during our small group Bible studies. I don’t think the Eucharist is practiced in your home gatherings. 😉 Also notice that the end of this passage, monergism (Calviniism) is revealed. So much for free will… 🤷

The Fellowship of the Believers - Acts 2

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

I wonder. Doesn’t it amaze you how one man, (luther) and at the time was Catholic could separate so many People. How he could think that people would leave the teachings of the Church and follow him, and they did? It blows my mind at times.

And the other thing that I could never get off my mind was lucifer and luther how they sounded so much alike. And how at one time they were both so close to God? You wonder just what made them snap?

As does Luke  …

Have you read much of John Calvin? He is known for his gifted mind, but his writings are very devotional… manifesting a great love for God. It’s the same with Jonathan Edwards in his obvious great love for God. Truth in doctrine when applied by the Holy Spirit to our minds will grow us in a greater love for our God. IMO… the more we understand the depths of the gospel, the more we will grow our personal love for God in what He has done for us in Christ.

I find that the more I read him, the more I admire him: he is so many-sided, as:

  • expositor
  • theologian
  • ecclesiastical statesman
  • reformer of the Church
  • man of prayer.
He might have wasted his great gifts on intellectual trifling - but he surrendered them to God instead 😃

What do you think that it would take for us all to really become one Church in Christ?

Besides a Miracle:D
😊 🙂

It is true. I read Paul plead to Corinthians:

“Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you should be in agreement and that there should be no divisions among you, but that you should be united in the same mind and the same purpose.”
1 Corinthians 1:10

Bless God
Praise be Jesus Christ !
:angel1:

Calvin did some very unChristlike things.

Is it possible that Calvin was motivated by pride?

Only one human being had to put up with Calvin for all Calvin’s lifetime: Calvin himself. He knew very well he was a sinner, and a sinner in boundless need of grace and pardon & mercy. See what his prayers say. 🙂

When you go to the catholic church, you will realise that there is a perfect church on earth. 😛

This claims more for the CC than the Magisterium does. Where sinners are, perfection isn’t. The Church is a Church of sinners, not one of perfected Saints.

Didn’t someone insist he would never deny Jesus ? But he did, three times - with oaths and curses.

And I agree that every Catholic would agree with me on that. Its the sacraments that do it for the Catholics. IF protestants really understood them they would agree with me.

But I thought that catholics are taught not to talk ill of the dead?
I just want to chime in one day late on these two posts. I think that trying to intellectually think about a topic is not bad or good in itself, but how we do it can lead to good or bad things. Some topics are “no no”, so it is wrong to think about that topic with knowledge that one cannot. This could be anything from how to summon up demons for your bedside pleasure to other things such as thinking evil thoughts on others. Some topics are not “no no” outright but should be avoided because they can quickly lead down a bad path. I am thinking *conjecturing *someone to be in hell or surely not in heaven ever would be one of those. It can be neutral at first but it can easily degrade into uncharitable talks and even judging of which we are not allowed to do if it involves salvation or the soul.
There is a big difference. If they are a Saint they are in heaven. Getting into heaven is what makes them a saint.
Also, I’m not sure entirely what a Saint is besides an infallibly recognized title given to those who lived pious lives and under investigation are found within human reasoning and knowledge to be with God. I think it was in Pope John Paul II canonization ceremony of (hmm, I forgot the name) where he talks about saints in an early sense. Being humans we cannot be perfect in the sense that we can be perfected by God but we can live as perfect and earthly life as possible. So what I got from the speech and the definition of the title Saint is that the title is a recognition of a person being extraordinary in their holiness here on earth and their ability to intercede for us.

This claims more for the CC than the Magisterium does. Where sinners are, perfection isn’t. The Church is a Church of sinners, not one of perfected Saints.

Because the Church is there to save the sinners and is founded by Christ, it is the perfect Church for a repeat sinner like me!

Remember the shepard spending all day to look for the lost sheep and when Jesus visited Zeddicus (sp?) house who works for the Romans, Jesus was definitely looking for us sinners not because we are sinners but because he loves us. That’s the Church he founded so it is perfect in the sense that is there to support the sinners to “go and sin no more”.

Well, as the world gets more and more hostile toward Christians, we Protestants scattered all over creation with no common organizational structure will eventually join you Catholics because you all are like the U.S. Army or McDonald’s or something — big and coordinated enough to be hard to kill.
😃

I am praying for that day. The Catholic Church would be enriched and blessed by an influx of devout Christians from the Protestant tradition.

And I pray that it happens sooner rather than later.

❤️ Love is Patient
