Sorry Gm, I was in a real hurry responding and I was only able to take a glance at your post. I had to quote someone quick and seeing that you were an atheist sealed my decision.I’m not sure what any of this has to do with the original question or my response to it.
Are you suggesting that I have somehow denied the church’s role in the building of our civilization or that I am ignorant of medieval history?
I give the Catholic Church due credit for it’s role in building our civilization. Without the Catholic Church, the world today would certainly be a very different place. But that has nothing to do with the original question of what the world would be like if Jesus never existed. As I see things it is entirely possible that the Catholic religion was built on a myth, which makes the existence of an actual historical “Christ” figure irrelevant to the world we see today.
