Honestly, I would be very careful. The youth these days see the body as a device of pleasure to be used when desired. The most recent episode of the popular show “Glee” featured a “conversion of a straight girl” to the bisexual mode. I tend to think there are 2 general reasons for this trend. So if this situation occurred, and your 14yr old DD’s friend revealed that she’s bi-sexual and had feelings for your DD, what would be your response?
- As men are increasingly vilified and derided by the media and politics women are taught to fear us. Girls are also frequently told that men don’t care about them and can’t understand their feelings, but girls can! The only logical conclusion for a girl is that to get the happiness they desire is to be with another girl to feel loved and safe. Of coarse the “best part” is they cannot get pregnant! In a society that is so down on pregnancy this is a huge “plus” for girls!

- Bisexuality is in many ways seen as liberation and power for women. It gets them attention from men and women alike. They get to shake off the shackles of “those crusty religious oldies” and fully experience their “oppressed feminine sexuality.” It is “power and freedom.” In every way 2 woman can go as crazy as they want sexually and again not get pregnant. That is seen as “liberation.”

My suggestion is to reaffirm your daughters confidence and self-esteem as a human being. Ensure her that there is a guy out there that wants to treat her properly and that God will bless her but good things only come to those who are patient. Also, continue to teach your daughter by example to value non-material things. Valuing things like power are exactly how human beings get into trouble. We have no power except that which is given to us by God and still it is His power!
