After 50 years of the OF, this is no-longer a real possibility IMO.:o

What can be done is to return a sense of piety [a taught atribute]

And RETURN the emphasis to God centered Worship; which we seem to have gotten away form in the post V II era. IMO

Why not? After 100s of years in the “old Mass” the “new Mass” is not only a possibility but a norm. It would seem changing the Mass is a rather easy and quick and seamless transition in the World of Church time…

=aprilfloyd;10481183]Provide some proof, that god exists in a manner that ordinary people would understand. And finally settle the old arguements, which god?, which religion is the right one. That would be something - he has the platform.
Look in the mirror [REALLY]

Who told you what to wear today?

Of the BILLIONS of created things Only One; only man could make those choies. And oly man can freely choose to love or to hate.

How? Because Only man emulates our Creator God and has a Mind; intelect an freewill permnately attached to our SOULS. Like God these ARE Spiritual Realities. Try to qunatify your freewill: size; shape; color and weight. Cn’t because they are Spiritual like God [Gen. 1:26-27]

Isa.43 Verses 7 and 21: “every one who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made." AND the people whom I formed for myself that *they might *declare my praise.”
Make the church less homophobic
This friend is FAR more your perception than reality. The CC Teaches Hate the sin BUT LOVE the sinner. Amen!
Allow priests to marry 🙂
WHY? To what benefit to God and to God’s Church? This is a “church practice” so it COULD be changed; but historical experience seems to didctate that it will NOT be done.

Allow woman priests:

IMPOSSIBLE!

As A Doctrine of the CC it cannot change. Christ is Male gender so too MUST HIS Priest be. Ordianation sis a Sacrament Instituted by Christ and the church LACKS the authority to chage it.

Give God a name, so it is less confusing.

DUH! "how about JESUS!🤷

God Bless you,

You need to be a student of history. Jesus, when he lived, died, is resurrected and when he instituted a Church had no problem bucking the trends and biases of society. Especially when it came to women. Listen close to this coming Sunday’s gospel reading. Jesus called out the entire Jewish faith on their views on women. He put his life on the line standing up for a woman caught in adultery. He, as GOD, elevated Mary to the position of queen of heaven and by choosing her ordained her as the most holy and pure person ever. (A woman) yet Jesus did not elevate his dear mother to priesthood. He certainly could have. But he specifically did not. At the foot of the Cross Jesus gave “Woman” “Mary” “The New Eve” to one of his priests and charged him with her care and instituted a relationship that has stood for 2000 years. Not only that but contrary to popular belief women today do not have more equality than back then. 1/2 of human abortions are killing females. In China, a woman is less than human, they are sold to sex slaves and lest you think that that only happens in some far away place I would submit to you that in the modern US women are nothing more than sex conquests and thanks to abundant contraception and the separation of sex from it’s Holy purpose, women are brainwashed sex slaves in our society.

Yet, here is Jesus, living in a time where many religions had priestesses. All of His teachings were not contoured for “his time of history” but rather they all seem quite timeless. It would make much more sense for Jesus to go to leper colonies now that we have a cure than back then when it was most certainly taboo. Jesus was killed for being counter cultural yet he did not institute the woman priesthood.

Jesus also did not change the standard that only women can give birth. Part of this reason is that men are not female. If you understood the source and summit of our faith, the Eucharist. What it is and what happens in the Mass you would also understand why what you are saying is not only anti Catholic and Anti-Christ. But also impossible.
Well seeing as your points are all over the place, I will only address a couple. First, no Jesus did not elevate Mary to the “pure person ever” because then He himself could not then be the purest person ever. Second, those things you mention that devalue women today have been going on since the beginning of time. With all the evil being done to women, I believe more women are seen in a higher regard than ever.

If you read my post, I never said I was for women priest, nor am I anti-Christ. Maybe you should learn about your faith.

I’m sorry, I probably missed this somewhere, but why is this so important to some people? I am not being combative, I sincerely what to understand. Does it truly make the Mass better or more holy or is this just a preference for some?

I Hesitate to respond; but feel compelled by TRUTH [a singulat thing] to do so.

Actually YES [IMO] the EF does improve the Litergy in two specific manners;
  1. First and Foemost it is strictly God Centered Worship
  2. As a result of #1 the level of personal piety is taught to be more respectful in the Presence of Our God.
Both VG Things IMO:)

It is a preference. But if you don’t understand why it is so important then it is probably best to just let it go. (it is a hot topic on CAF that tends to lead to uncharitable remarks) I am a Novus Ordo Goer because there is no TLM allowed where I live that is in full communion with Rome. So I go to the Novus Ordo. I prefer the TLM. Both are valid and both are holy.

I would totally agree with you but I am afraid I am not brave enough to come to your aid here.

“He was a brave soldier, who died on a hill.” 😃

Then you receive on the tongue while standing or sitting in your wheelchair or whatever you’re able to do. The Church doesn’t require you to do things that you cannot do and it never has done so.

No “standing” indult is required to admit disabled people to the Eucharist! It’s still a mortal sin to miss Mass on Sunday, unless you cannot attend (you’re too sick, duties of state, etc.). That’s true even though there’s no “missing Mass” indult.
The Church doesn’t require one to receive on the tongue in the first place.

Whilst the priorities of certain tasks will undoubtedly vary throughout the time Pope Francis resides in the Vatican, as Catholics what would you most like to see Pope Francis do? This could be anything from I’d like to see him engage with this issue to, I’d like to see him try out some dance moves in St. Peter’s square.

As an Anglican I’d like to see Pope Francis engage more with different branches of Christianity and consider the varied views on a number of subjects the Catholic church, in my opinion, has been sometimes quite stubborn about.
One of the beautiful things about Pope Francis is he is fully aware that Christ heads the Church, not himself. Therefore he will look to HIM for answers, not the “different branches of Christianity” nor will he look to the followers of Joe Biden. As a result, it is highly unlikely that either the politicians or other branches will be pleased with the new Pope’s “dancing”.

Pope Francis’s main challenge I think is uniting the divisions within the Church.

To do that he must satisfy the multiple roles of his office. He must be the charasmatic pastor, down-to-earth, spiritually pure, and in touch with all people. However must also be a traditional-minded intellectual, able to encourage discussion but defend Church’s positions without dismissing criticism. It’s a tough job; Pope Emeritus Benedict struggled with the former role, especially, IMO.

From what I learn thus far, however, I think this pope will be able to do it.
Unfortunately, the reverse is going to be true. If the Pope takes a hard line with people who are in favor of abortion rights, traditional sexual teaching, and other social issues, it will cause more division than unite. On the one hand the Church needs to make all aware of it’s teachings, rules and laws. And don’t say that people are aware because it’s quite obvious by the posts on this and many threads that people are simply not knowledgeable of the Church’s teachings. But on the other hand, it will cause people to either 1) leave the Church, or 2) ignore Church teachings and go on with their lives like they have before. But it won’t unite people. It will pull the traditional people together and everyone else apart.

Surely that’s the point. The traditionalists want a “smaller, more faithful church.” They want what they call “pruning.”

If this is true, why would the Church ever have changed it or allow it to be changed in the first place?

If it’s “de fide” then it is both infallible and unchangeable. The church cannot change basic truths. To take examples nobody would debate, it cannot decide that Jesus wasn’t raised from the dead, or that, instead of three persons in God, there are really two or four.

Rence, either I’m not sure that I understand you, or I’m not sure that you read Bezant correctly. I don’t see the phrase “hard line” in his post above. I see that Bezant is suggesting that the Pope will have many disparate and delicate roles to fill, which will require clarity of communication, tact, and charm (all).

You’re right, of course, about people “simply not being knowledgeable about Church teachings.” Catechesis will hopefully be a big order of business, and soon, and has for a long time been my single biggest concern. Without information about what the Church is (and is not), communication and cooperation are both stalled.

But I don’t see how the Pope gets around orthodoxy, even if many Catholics don’t want to hear it. Perhaps when they see that he is a man of charity and likes to be in touch with ordinary people (however he can carry that off now as Supreme Pontiff), they will also be persuaded, little by little, toward orthodoxy. (It did work for Jesus, by and large. ;))

My guess, Rence (and my hope), is that he will be good at delegating. I hope he will encourage – even “demand” – a pastoral, direct outreach by bishops everywhere, including but not limited to Latin America. (After his own role-modeling in that same region.) He will also take, hopefully, many trips to the Third World to make such personal contact, and (important to me!) meet with gov’t leaders and be the conscience of the many corrupt dictatorships in such regions which hoard the wealth/resources from those in dire poverty.

Maybe unchangeable, I don’t know. Infallible???
With all the liberal nutjobs in the media lately calling themselves “Catholic” and promoting anti Catholic agendas this has been discussed lately. On Ca Live and on these forums. Do a search on ordination of women infallible. And you can educate yourself on why it is infallible in the magisterium and the deposit of the faith. There are several ways a Dogma can be infallible. And this one meets the criteria.
It is infallible. If you can find evidence to the contrary be my guest!

What in the world is the difference between unchangeable and infallible!!!???
Explain how something in the Catholic Church could be unchangeable but not infallible? What a paradox!

I like how you have qualifiers in most of your statements. “maybe” possibly" etc…
Dont be afraid of TRUTH. TRUTH of the faith needs no qualifiers and it does nothing to further intellectual debate because it takes absolutely no position.

That would drive millions of Catholics away. With the Pope coming from South America, a
greater emphasis on the vernacular is likely.
Isn’t the vernacular the specialty of the Evangelical Protestants, who have successfully drawn off many of the South American Catholics and their children? Just an observation.

The case for infallibility here is a strong one. There are, however, considerable numbers of Catholic theologians who disagree (e.g., the 140 in Germanic Europe who recently wrote a statement to that effect). If they’re wrong, they’re at least mistaken and possibly heretics.

Personally, I feel that while the “TRUTH of the faith needs no qualifiers,” it could do with fewer attacks on “liberal nutjobs,” not to mention capital letters and repetitious question marks and exclamation points. Truth may not need persuasion to be true, but, if you care about communicating the truth, you use persuasion.
