Hi, Taurks,

Welcome to CAF! I think you will find this list to be a real source of faith, inspiration and a lot of intelligent communications. 👍

That is a new one on me! Even Martin Luther had a devotion to Mary!

The ones I truly feel sorry for are those who just get a steady diet of the Jack Chick’s version of religion in general and anti-Catholicism in particular.

God bless
I was once told that the “Catholic Mary” was actually a devil. That one threw me for a loop…

I used to be on a steady diet of Jack Chick. I am so glad the Church found me…

that the Catholic church stole the name from the Apostles creed when heretics broke away from the true church (baptists who come from John the Baptist)

Well, Martin Luther was, in many ways, still quite close to his Catholic roots compared with many of his spiritual descendants. 😉

Also:

How the head of the family should teach his household to pray morning and evening.

Morning Prayer.
In the morning, as soon as you get out of bed, you shall bless yourself with the holy cross and say, “God the Father, Son, Holy Spirit watch over me. Amen.” Then, kneeling or standing, repeat the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. If you choose, you may, in addition, say this little prayer:

I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, that you have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray you to keep me this day also from sin and all evil, that all my doings and life may please you. For into you hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let your holy angel be with me, that the Wicked Foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Then go to your work with joy, singing a hymn, as the Ten Commandments, or what your devotion may suggest.

Evening Prayer.
In the evening, when you go to bed, you shall bless yourself with the holy cross and say, “God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit watch over me. Amen.” Then, kneeling or standing, repeat the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. If you choose, you may, in addition, say this little prayer:

I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, your beloved Son, that you had graciously kept me this day, and I pray you to forgive me all my sins, where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night. For into your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let your holy angel be with me, that the Wicked Foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Then go to sleep promptly and cheerfully.

Wonder of wonders! Ol’ Martin actually recommends that people make the Sign of the Cross and say a formulaic prayer! 😉

… that Catholics are still waiting for Jesus to rise from the dead.
Some will say that that’s because we still keep Him up on that cross. As if crucifixes were some sort of voodoo dolls that have any magical effect on the Son of God. 😃

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Sometimes it makes me wonder: how such people actually come up of an idea they think Catholics believe, when the opposite is the case in reality.
If a statue such as the one in the pic actually keeps Jesus on the cross, then wow. I didn’t know that a simple carving has the power to pin Jesus back up a cross. 🤷

A man addressing my husband’s nicotine habit at a party: “I did’nt know you smoked.”

My husband: “I always have one or two in the morning with a cup of coffee and one or two after meals.”

“But, you’re Catholic!”

Hi, StTommyMore,

Steady diet of such disdirected and deceiving hatred … it is no wonder you have a real hungar for the Love of Christ expressed through His Church! 🙂

You know - Chick has a such a steady diet, himself - and I have every confidence that his cooperation with the Grace of God could actually turn him around! Based on Wiki, he is still alive (albeit, no spring ‘chick’ [sorry, could not resist!] at 86 here is the link: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_T._Chick).

May i suggest, praying for the conversion of Jack Chick?

God bless

Praying for the conversion of Jack Chick would definitely be a good idea. He is so influential in certain groups of people that his conversion would probably lead more people. Besides, if even Jack Chick can be converted, what excuse do people have for not trying to convert others?

Wow, I’ve never seen this one before. Is it just my impression of them, or do the practices of the present-day Lutherans differ greatly from what’s written here?
None of the Lutherans I know pray every morning and evening, or use a formulaic prayer, or make the sign of the cross.

I was once told that the “Catholic Mary” was actually a devil. That one threw me for a loop…
The way that sounds is as if the “Protestant Mary” isn’t. But they are one in the same, Mary the mother of God, is Mary the mother of God whether you are protestant or Catholic. I wonder where that misconception came from… There must have been a reason at some point.

Sometimes it makes me wonder too… I think some of might be people believing what they want to believe, and some of it is people being spiteful. But most of it is just ignorance, because if you look at things on the surface, you don’t get a full picture.

For example, the belief that the Catholics worship Mary as being on par with God. Because in a lot of churches, there is a statue of the Blessed Virgin, somewhere, and there are candles around it. And also, with the Rosary, the Hail Marys outnumber everything else. So they assume that Mary is worshiped as being on par with God. There is always some truth, hidden behind the misconception.

Hi, Julia1996,

The Father of Lies is really quite talented at his craft. After all, he has had thousands and thousands of year to sharpen his skills. The Devil knows that most of us can NOT accept evil as pure evil - we have to find some tiny speck of good in it before accepting his lies. For example, we know that stealing is wrong - but, the Devil tempts with the ‘goods’ we can purchase with the stolen money - and then we willingly listen to his temptations and then consent to sin. It does not make any difference if we were able to steal the item or not - the sin has already been committed.

Mary is honored as the Mother of God - but, Mary is a creature (just like us) and God is the Creator. Keeping this distinction in mind is what keeps our focus on God. The infuence that Mary has is considerable - the marriage feast of Cana is the classic example found in the second chapter of John’s Gospel (Here is a link: usccb.org/nab/bible/john/john2.htm and after reading this look towards the bottom of the page - it is “Home” and from there you can access any book of the Bible! So, here you now have a free on-line Catholic Bible!.. Happy Thanksgiving! 🙂 )

God bless

Newest crazy anti-Catholic whopper, no more than a few hours hold, as it is dependent on the pope’s recent statement regarding condoms -

“The pope is allowing condom use now so that there’s no DNA evidence when the priests molest children”.

Made worse by the fact that this very thing is being proclaimed by people who I know for a fact were once complaining that the pope didn’t allow condom use. Shouldn’t they be happy? But no. Any excuse to hate.

I was told that the Jesuits made an oath to kill Protestant babies! It would be more believable if they said they signed an oath to run secular universities. I wonder if this was a jack chick lie?

It is jaw-dropping and incredibly creepy as many people believe if it is posted on the internet it must be true,

Often it is the opposite, people use the internet to spread lies and further their agenda of bashing and destroying the Catholic church because they know some of these “sources” they cite are difficult to confirm.

Less than 40 whoppers to go before we hit the magic 1000 post mark.
😉
DOn’t want to read through all of them.

Most recent: How can you believe that your pope is infalllible.

(Their definition of infallible meaning: doesn’t make mistakes or sin)

😊

You gotta love the Seventh Day teaching that the Pope is the antiChrist, and that the Pope’s crown/ or mitre (SDA doesn’t say) has the name and the number 666.
That the latin for Vicar of Christ comes out in numerology to 666:
The pope wears upon his pontifical crown in jeweled letters, this title: “Vicarius Filii Dei,” “Viceregent of the Son of God;” the numerical value of which title is just six hundred and sixty-six The most plausible supposition we have ever seen on this point is that here we find the number in question. It is the number of the beast, the papacy; it is the number of his name, for he adopts it as his distinctive title; it is the number of a man, for he who bears it is the “man of sin.”[76]
Of course, this would be the teaching of a mere man, which goes all the way back to 1866.

Whatever happened to interpreting scripture through the eyes of the Church?

Ya know sometimes I wonder just how protestants think that Jesus got born! If you diminished the Blessed Virgin as much as they would want to then Our Lord would have to have been brought by the stork!

Hi, Clinoforms,

How about Jesuits that support Planned Parenthood and give awards to abortion-infanticide supporting Presidents… hmmmmmmmmm… wait, that oee may be true!

God bless

Tom
