What's the craziest Anti-Catholic whopper you've ever heard?

I’m a former protestant and was VERY Anti Catholic spouting all these ridiculous whoppers as truth b/c I thought they were. That was how I was brought up to believe living in the South. However, I did some actual research and decided to become Catholic.

Once becoming Catholic I had to deal with my protestant “friends” who are no longer my friends. A few of them are though so I have to give them credit for loving me no matter what haha

My biggest whopper was when a preacher came to my door asking me if I knew Jesus. I said: “Of course I do! He is my personal savior and I go to church every Sunday”. He looked very surprised and then asked: “Oh really? which church do you go to?” I replied: “St. Peter’s”. He looked disgusted and said: “You know that is a Catholic Church”. I said “Why yes it is! I am Catholic”. He replied: “You know, Hitler was Catholic and he is going to Hell, therefore all Catholics are going to Hell”. :banghead:I did everything I could not to burst out laughing. I tried to educate him on the history of Nazi Germany and Hitler since I had recently done a project on him for my graduate studies in psychology but to no avail.

People will insist on believing a lie regardless of the evidence presented to the contrary. I am so ashamed that I was ever that ignorant but praise the Lord Almighty for showing me the way :extrahappy:

Welcome to the one true church. Most will find after research the the true church is the Catholic church. It is unfortunate many in the South preach terrible things about Catholics mostly based on unfounded facts.

FaustinaClare, sounds like you grew up like I did. I was really anti-Catholic, too, and I, too, marvel that the Lord brought me to His Church. But I am a good example that no one is ever beyond hope. Praise be to our Lord Jesus Christ! Let’s remember that when people tell these whoppers.

Now, to the OP -

The most damaging whoppers I’ve heard are from a guy in my parents’ church (evangelical Protestant church) that starts every weird story with, “Well, as a former Roman Catholic monk…(insert whopper)”. People actually think he knows what he’s talking about. It’s the usual Mary-worshiping, you-don’t-read-the-Bible, Catholics-aren’t-Christians stuff. It’s damaging because people think a monk should know what he’s talking about.

But the weirdest were “Catholics are vampires.” And “The Pope is wearing Lucifer’s robes - see those shell patterns on the front? They are references to Aphrodite, who is, of course, a false goddess and creation of Lucifer. Therefore, it’s Satan’s robes.” And we the Catholic faithful are the ones drinking the blood of the saints in Revelation and worshiping the Beast. :whacky:

Wow and I thought I’ve heard them all! I also heard that the Vatican/St. Peter’s Cathedral/Square were designed with demonic inspiration. Mostly b/c of the obilisque and the fact that they were from Egypt, etc. etc.

Yep the presence of the obilisque proves the Catholic Church is pagan don’t ya know…

An ex-Catholic, anti-Catholic co-worker once brought that up. But I was - & still am - a bit hazy on the landmarks in Rome. The conversation went like this:

Bob: You know there is an obelisk in St. Peter’s Square, don’t you?

Me: Oh, there is? Never heard of it.

Bob just stared at me, then walked away without saying anything. I guess he thought I would be instantly upset about the obelisk. He didn’t count on my “ignorance” of the evil nature of obelisks!

Never heard the obelisk story before. So, the Washington Monument is an obelisk too; what does that imply for America??

Just ridiculous!

Yeah I never got that one either, what exactly is evil about and obelisk?

If I remember correctly the obelisk was placed at the center of the Circus by Caligula (i.e. The Circus where Nero sent so many Christians to die.)

That may have something to do with its current location.

RHC, is it possible that the fellow’s first whopper was that he’s a “former Roman Catholic monk”? I know there are plenty of “former Roman Catholics” among the Protestant clergy, but I suspect that some who make the claim do so to give some bona fides to their idiotic claims. That said, I personally have been in the presence of a former Jesuit priest who tells the most egregious lies about the Church.

Ha Ha Yeah it’s amazing what people will believe. Apparently, according to some people, the Church has been infiltrated by evil…I think “freemasons” and that the highest positions are held by secret satanists or free masons and they are going to take over the world and bring about the Apocolypse, etc. etc. etc.

sigh

I’m so ashamed to say that I used to believe that garbage!! 😊 :doh2:Man was the wool over my eyes or what? I feel like Saul who became Paul. I was blind now I see :signofcross:

Obviously, it means that :rolleyes:George Washington was actually:thumbsup: Caligula’s great-great-grandson.😃
(:shrug:Some people can find a conspiracy theory in a;) peanut butter and jelly sandwich).

Jack Chick tracts as a source is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel, but . . .

The Chick Tract entitled “The Death Cookie” (referring to the Eucharistic Host) – puh-LEEEZE!

From what I’ve been reading about this Jack Chick character, I think he needs some serious mental help… :whacky:

I never heard of him as a protestant (Thank the Lord) but he just seems mentally disturbed instead of providing legitimate arguments against the Catholic faith.

Just my opinion of course 😉

LOL, who knows? 🤷 I do know the details of his “monkhood” (is that a word?) are sketchy…he won’t elaborate on why he left, what order it was, etc.

It is sad that a former priest would tell falsehoods about the Church. I will pray for him, and for my ex-monk acquaintance.

It could be possible to look him up in Kennedy’s Directory. Catholic Universities have them - don’t know where else you would find them. If you know a year & diocese, he should be there. If he won’t talk about the Order, then it’s likely he wasn’t really a “monk,” he may have been in the novitiate.

why not? martin luther was a monk, and he did most damage to the Church. the greatest damage to the Church came from Catholics who left the Church because they spouse heresies. I am not surprise at all. Jesus warned us that scandals would come. He also promised to do something about it. our Lord will take care of them in due time.

What did Our Lord promise to do about it? How and when will He take care of them? I’m asking because one of the “whoppers” I’ve heard from non-Christians about the Church is that Jesus promised to destroy all of those people who will not conform to the correct doctrines and dogma as prescribed by the Church. That’s rather dramatic but is that what is in store for all heretics and other non-conformists?

Those who persist until death in deliberate disobedience will not go to Heaven. (Someone who is honestly following his conscience - not his whims and feelings but his actual conscience - cannot be condemned for doing what they sincerely understand to be right - God isn’t a trickster.) But we have no way of knowing who among the living will do that, so it’s not up to us to condemn anyone - that’s God’s call. 🙂
