I think I’m starting to understand. It’s not misogyny that is the problem for most on CAF, it’s reading comprehension. Remember kids, reading is FUNDAMENTAL!

Nimzovik, bro… dial it back man. I think the female posters have made it quite clear that they’re using the Susan B. Anthony model of feminism here. Not Sanger or Steinem or any of those clowns. You’ve seen a couple of posters note that radical feminist lunatics are destroying the label of “feminist” which was originally about treating women as the equals to men that they are. Simple things like voting rights, not support for abortion. Getting women beyond being treated like chattel or children, not making men subservient to women and demonizing masculinity.
I completely agree with you.
And let the records show that I am one of those people who are saying that radical feminism had reduced feminism into something shameful.
What do I mean? Radical feminism had turned feminism into another one of those parties in identity politics. Instead of helping men and women live with each other’s differences in a constructive manner, it had only alienated both genders. Note that the men’s rights movement is a reaction to how radical feminism (especially the lesbian schools of thought within radical feminism) impacts societies.
I am sick and tired of how radical feminism demonizes masculinity as well as genuine femininity.

Yea – wondering the same thing myself.
Well that explains a lot. The last thread I was on this poster accussed the female posters of not using logic and instead arguing with our emotions. This was based on our posts being shorter.

Shorter posts = emotional arguments

Longer posts = logical arguments

:whacky:

That certainly puts things in perspective!

Oh yes?

Of course there are those that appreciate what positive aspects there are in Feminism. Unfortunately there are, as you said, also those in this very thread that militate for Radical Feminism as evidenced by their stance on abortion. This needs to be **confronted. **

Sidebar. I personally rather* like* the idea of the title Mary’s Feminist. This title would surely distinguish the differences - yes? Let us stand for what we stand for. Let us say it loud and Proud. Let us clear** any** confusion. *For **apparently **this very distinction needs to be made as your very post indicates. *

Yes?

Maybe in the general public Nimzovik, but I really doubt such labels are necessary on a Catholic Answers website. It should be assumed that Catholics, both men and women alike, are going to be on board with their Church’s doctrine if they’re on this site. You’re not going to be confronting anyone here because you’re not going to find support for abortion, sterilization or anything along those lines here. Anyone calling herself a feminist on this site would probably be better thought of as a “normal modern Christian woman” in contrast to the uber-traditionalists that are also on here. So ease up rider.

Think** again**. See posts by Blue Eyed Lady or Angry Atheist. A title that distinguishes the Christain feminist from the abortionist , man hating, Scripture miscontruing Feminist is in order here as such issues are discussed here methinks.

Nuff said.

Uh… go look at their religion. They are atheists, so YEAH they are going to have a different definition from their Catholic female counterparts. The fact that you don’t assume as much says far more about your character than theirs.

But certainly one can guess that there are differences in attitudes and beliefs based on the word ‘Catholic’ next to some names and ‘atheist’ next to others.

Maybe because not everyone in this thread is Catholic?

I’ve seen some atheists here.

Indeed! Why would any Catholic on this forum object to be refered to as a Marian Feminist?

Because they don’t need to be? Same reason that there are a lot of good, honest lawyers who still use the word ‘lawyer’ because they are proud of their careers even though that word has a lot of negative connotations to a lot of people.

Besides, a feminist is simply a person who views women as equal to men. They may have different ideas on what that means and how to go about it, but that’s what it is. Even if you divided feminists in to “radicals” and “marions” you would still have serious disagreements in each group. Why? Because most people have deep and complex thoughts and opinions and cannot be split cleanly in to two groups.

LOL…

your contributions have been wonderful.
Thank you. I find white-knighting for women on the various Internets to be pathetic just as much as an emotionally-wounded “men’s rights” guy, so to be clear I’m not doing that here. But the blockheadedness of some folks, male or female, gets to be a bit much.

**Bold Lettering mine: **

Sorry. The wanton, rabid advocacy of abortion by the radical feminists, like NOW, makes it imperative for the Catholic to distance themselves IMHO. Especially so in view of the HHS mandate atrocity that Feminists advocate for. The line needs to be dawn.

Hmmmmmm… As for your Lawyer analogy, how about this: Does NOW, the National Oraganization for Women absolutely equate to Feminism? Is not NOW fundamentally an abortion advocacy group? Are not there feminists that have distanced themselves from such? So. Even Feminists see the need for a seperate title - yes?

My my. You do get excited don’t you? No need to cast aspersions on my character, eh? I am sure you are erudite enough to express your well considered thoughts without such - yes?

That aside - Yes. You are quite right! (see the bold face type) That is** why** I am endeavoring to inspire people to make the distinction. Please. Read my previous posts.🙂

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Feminism does not equal NOW or radical feminism of any sort. Why in the world do you think people call it radical feminism! Because it is something different than feminism in and of itself. Feminism is simly speaking the movement for the recognition of the equality between men and women. Using this title I am very proud to call myself a feminist and I do not appreciate any of your claims that doing so is somehow unimaginable for a **real **Cathollic. As others have pointed out, Pope John Paul II himself identified himself as feminist. There is nothing wrong with this label. Sure, its important to explain what you think is entailed in the equality of men and women, but ultimately anyone who argues as a feminist will come back to this basic principle, that men and women are equal and should be treated as such. This principle happens to be in line with Church teaching, as evidenced again by JP II’s willingness to associate himself with the label ‘feminist’. In fact, there is a very good reason for Catholics calling themselves feminist and explaining what they mean by it. To help others realize that we do recognize the equality of men and women, but in doing so we also recognize that there are general differences between them which must be taken into account. In other words, using this word is an excellent evangelization word to help show others what the true relation of the genders are to each other.

So no, I feel no need to call myself a “marian feminist”. I have often in the past used the phrase “true feminist” to make people aware that I did not include myself with the radical feminist groups that exist, and then explained what I meant by that. This is a much better way to approach it than by labeling oneself as a marian feminist anyway because people who do not believe your religion are not going to change their opinion just because your religion says so. Instead you need to help explain to them through reason based on the world they see around them using principles that you both accept how what you believe is actually true. Using the term feminist, or true feminist, and explaining what you mean by this is conducive to this kind of evangelization. So back off and stop claiming that Catholics are wrong to identify as such.
