What's with all the anti women threads recently??

Honestly, to me it’s been quite amusing seeing all these “anti-women threads” and seeing a number of men (who shall remain nameless) blame women for practically all the problems and evils of the world.

It’s like Genesis. Watching the whole “Adam blames Eve” phenomenon play out right before my eyes. 🙂

I can sit back and eat the popcorn as I’ve been following these threads. They don’t upset me any because I know that people who think this way are in the vast minority (thank God) and I don’t personally know anyone like that.

I read through a little of the threads listed:

-in the first one th OP just seem to be inquiring as to why people choose to not have families and why others are completely against the Idea of a family or why modern society seems to be holding the idea of family in contempt.

-in the second thread the OP just seems to be asking why he is having trouble getting through to young women about Chastity and if he could get some advice to make himself more clear to them.

-in the third thread the OP just seems to be asking about men and women being held to the same standards

-the fourth OP just seems to be asking about the churches opinion on Mens rights in contrast with feminism
  • and the fifth OP seems to only be critiquing a study on traditional marriage.
maybe I’m just not seeing it but, I don’t see where these OP’s questions where anti women?

We understand evolution a lot more than we understand gravity, and none tries to argue against gravity.
Have you studied gravity??
I hate it when people try to say that evolution is just a theory. That shows such a fundamental lack of scientific understanding. In science the term theory does NOT refer to an unproven idea like it does in day to day conversation.
And you’re right, gravity is also a theory.
By definition, a scientific theory is a group of related facts that are internally consistent with one another. It is the best we have for the time being, but is still subject to revision or rejection if new information is found that the theory cannot explain. A hypothesis, on the other hand, is an informed opinion that needs to be tested and either confirmed or not confirmed. If a hypothesis is confirmed, it can become a theory. Quiz tomorrow morning!
Yeah, way off topic. But yes, I do know what theory means, but perhaps my scientific discipline defines it differently? Most of my research is in the social sciences and I don’t recall it being different from chemistry. Theories are more general explanations about behavior and events. A theory organizes observable events, attempts to explain them, makes predictions about these observations, and connects them to more comprehensive principles. Theories (theoria is Greek for contemplation) are proposed explanations for facts. There has been many ways in which the theory has been misapplied, there’s the microevolution/macroevolution issue, we have missing fossils showing transitional forms, random mutation, etc…I am not anti-evolution, I just think it’s inaccurate to claim those who do not support the theory are rejecting facts. And this is probably why I should just stop posting on stuff I’m too lazy to elaborate on in the first place. Done!

Yes, I agree with you. However, which threads on this Forum say that a woman must stay home for her family and cannot work outside the home?
Are you kidding me??

I’m pretty sure every last one of those threads have numerous posts in them in which some members express the belief that women need to stay home, and not doing so is immoral and anti Christian. Especially the “anti family” thread.

I know when I click on almost any thread dealing with relationship trouble, divorce, problems in a marriage, etc…I brace myself for man-bashing.
Begging your pardon, but stating specific examples of men behaving abominably is not “man-bashing.” Further, suggesting that women take specific steps to secure their future and the future of their children (in the face of specific examples of men behaving abominably) is also not “man-bashing.” Interestingly enough, it invariably appears to be the men in traditional marriage arrangements that behave abominably … because they can, and a traditional marriage model gives them the power to do so.

In contrast, I have yet to see anyone from group A (see my previous post on page one) state specific examples of women behaving abominably. I see blanket statements that are intended to be prescriptive for all women that would leave all women in a vulnerable position when men decide to behave abominably (see preceding paragraph). Because the consequences of such broad prescriptions would be dire if they were implemented (for many women, that is), it is fair to say that such statements are “anti-woman.”

Sigh

As I’ve said, it’s some of the POSTS* in* these threads that have a very anti women vibe. Not particularly the OP itself.

We don’t actually have proof for what causes gravity, we do for evolution, gravity isn’t seemingly consistent, on the subatomic levels the math gets real stupid.

  1. I said ‘almost’ any thread.
  2. I also went on to say that it rarely ever happens.
  3. I am not in group A by any stretch.
I did not see anything in those threads too out of the ordinary for an online forum, where…as you know…people let it all fly. The stuff I saw indicating an anti-woman attitude is no different than the ‘Atheists are smarter’ attitude and the like. Easily dismissed.
I was hoping to open the dialogue to the possibility that we humans are maybe hyper sensitive to those issues that we have been affected by, and that our experiences may taint our perceptions somewhat. I’ve been divorced and been bashed. And, no I did not act (ever) in a way that warrented it, so I think I’m going to see man-bashing. I’m working on it!

Our current understanding of germs is “theory”… Don’t use that word as a copout to discredit something. We understand evolution a lot more than we understand gravity, and none tries to argue against gravity.
Ahhhh… but evolution is tied to abiogenisis. How to accept* that* one? The more I think upon this the more in-credible it seems. Sorry for the sidebar.

Sorry, Debora, I haven’t looked at the specific threads in question and, taking your word for it, stand corrected. I just thought that since the submission of women to men, inside or outside the family, is against Catholic teaching, informed Catholics would not express such views. I might have expected this from perhaps Southern Baptist traditionalists rather than Catholics. But maybe I’m wrong about the position of the Southern Baptist leadership as well, as I recall they may have changed their views about women’s place in the home and the workforce several years ago.

Getting on board with pro-abortion agendas, campaigning for women priests or something like that, well that’s where I have to draw the line. And yeah I guess it’s easier for me as a guy but I’d tell my fellow men getting on board with pushing for “the pill for men” would also be outside of Christ’s teaching so there you go.
I am a feminist.

I think abortion is actually extremely anti feminist. It violates a woman’s most distinctive/characteristic feminine instinct - her maternal instinct.

I also think it’s anti feminist to campaign for women priests. Priesthood is a God given male vocation, and saying that women should be priests is like saying women need to be like men. We don’t need to be like men, and neither should we *want *to be like men. We are great as just being women.

I am totally with you on the above Debora and share the same view. I also think that a women’s place is where ever and what ever God calls her to be or do.

Oh I see. I took your original post to mean that when you click on marriage / divorce / relationship threads, you almost always see man-bashing. My mistake.

You are correct, though - generally the stuff is at least more polite than most stuff on discussion boards.

And I never meant to imply that you were part of group A. I am actually not all that familiar with your posts.

It’s not simply that we HATE WOMEN. Mind you, we do HATE WOMEN. Obviously. But the primary cause of this epidemic of woman-oppression is, I submit, FEAR of the feminine.

MISOGYNY, sure; but don’t forget about the extreme GYNOPHOBIA.

Sigh

I see, so your talking about individual posts on this forum having an increase in what would appear to be misogynistic views in regards to women.

I can’t say I have noticed any such increase.

:rotfl:

That’s because your “join date” is in April 2012. 😉

I would imagine that feminists would be on board with women deciding what kind of lifestyles they want for themselves. If they choose traditionalism, that doesn’t make them less a woman.
You would imagine. In my experience, however, you would be wrong.
