I’ve noticed that in the comments for most of the Catholic videos that I’ve watched on YouTube, some Protestant fundamentalist, and his or her cronies, jump in with ad-hominem arguments and insults against the Catholic Church. These people are very judgemental, and in some cases, they condemn all Catholics to Hell. Other Protestant fundamentalists make provocative anti-Catholic videos, just to start fights. I wish that YouTube would do something about these extremely hateful religious zelots, but nothing is being done. I’m sick and tired of reading terms like “wafer-god,” “cookie,” and “cracker,” to describe the holy Eucharist, and I’m sick and tired of these people calling us “unsaved,” “Hell-bound,” “idolaters,” “Mary worshipers,” etc, and quoting out of context scripture verses, usually from the KJV, to try to prove their points. I wish that for once, that we could enjoy a Catholic video on YouTube, without someone jumping in and trying to ruin it for us. Sorry, but I just had to vent.

It goes both ways. I’ll go through this point by point, if you don’t mind.

There are a few on here who condemn all Protestants to Hell. Then again, no man on earth can condemn anyone anywhere. Even in the case of a business owner throwing an unruly customer out, he can’t order them where to go after they leave.
Other Protestant fundamentalists make provocative anti-Catholic videos, just to start fights
This definitely goes both ways. Look at some of the topics on this board.
I wish that YouTube would do something about these extremely hateful religious zelots, but nothing is being done.
I wish they wouldn’t. Hateful speech is still free speech, and for anyone of a certain faith, it’s important to know what the common arguments are against it.
I’m sick and tired of reading terms like “wafer-god,” “cookie,” and “cracker,” to describe the holy Eucharist, and I’m sick and tired of these people calling us “unsaved,”
This goes both ways; the catechism itself teaches that no one may call God his father who does not first have the Catholic Church as his mother.
“Hell-bound,”
Goes both ways.
“idolaters,”
“Worship Martin Luther and his heretics”
“Mary worshipers,”
“Mary haters”
“Heathens, heretics, splitters, God-haters who would rather listen to a man than Jesus”, and so on.
and quoting out of context scripture verses, usually from the KJV
Don’t get me started.
to try to prove their points.
Look around.

Again, it goes both ways.

It’s funny how a particular behavior can be regarded as repulsive going one way, but back the other way an entirely different standard is applied. Damning anyone who rejects the Catholic church is “exposing someone to the truth”, damning anyone who accepts the Catholic church is “grossly offensive”.

Actually, I also hate to hear Catholics judging Protestants in this way, but it seems that on YouTube, there are more Protestants, particularly fundamentalists, who seem to have a life mission to bash Catholics. I personally don’t like worshiping in Protestant churches, but in no way does that mean that I think that all Protestants, or even fundamentalists, are going to Hell. I have Protestant friends, and I even work in a Protestant church right now.

About the term “Mary haters,” I can tell you from experience, that some, but by no means all Protestants, hate Mary, especially some fundamentalists. This is evident in some of the comments on Catholic videos on YouTube. I think that those who actually hate Mary, hate her because of the misconseptions they have about the way Catholics honor her. Some fundamentalists on YouTube even think that the Mary that we honor is not the Biblical Mary, but instead a Pagan goddess, or even a demon.

You cannot preach the Gosple of Christ and preach hate. This is why these people are on-line. Their churches are empty. Look at Fred Phelps and his bunch. They could not fill a charter bus. The dude who videotaped himself disrupting mass is another one. His entire congregation is his family.

And most of the Catholics on here would not say these things face to face. Even to a bunch of heretical, Mary-Hating, splitting, heathen, men following, Jesus denying, luther worshipping Protestants.

Did I leave any out?

Lead and inspired by the One Holy Spirit - naturally

In fairness, most of the hundreds of websites Ive looked at over the last few weeks, I never once saw the words Mary hater, Luther worshiper etc on them, when they reasoned against the arguements used by Catholics to support their faith. However, almost without exception, every single baptist, methodist, presbyterian, and protestant, and lutheran site I visited were throwing junk at the Catholic Church.
In fact, a few seemed completely dedicated to running Rome into the ground - I could find almost NO information on what the people runninng the site actually believed, other than they hated rome and catholics. There was like zero information about what their personal faith entailed.

For the life of me - I cant understand it. As an agnostic, there are several belief systems I heard about that just made me breakout in hysterical laughter, they sounded so insane. But NEVER EVER EVER would I feel the need to tell these people they were insane (and my personal opinion is they had to be)! Live and let live was my moto.
Oh, and Ive been at the receiving end of Bible Bashing Christian Hospitality!!! And it’s not nice!!
I guess everything can be a teaching experience. Even if you only learn tolerance, empathy and how NOT to do things.

False. Show me a single of the official websites of these denominations that bag on Catholics. Sure some of the minor ones do, but ELCA, PC USA, UMC, no way, unless it is some link to something said 300 years ago.

Ralf, I completely agree with you. I haven’t seen one single Protestant worship video, where Catholics start jumping in and preaching hate. We have better things to do with our time, and besides, it’s not what Christ wants us to do. From what I’ve seen, Catholics only speak out against Protestants on YouTube when they’re provoked, and most Catholics speak to them in a very Christ-like manor. I have seen a fiew Catholics call the Protestant fundamentalists who spoke against them, schismatics and heretics, but that doesn’t happen near as often, and again, even those Catholics only speak out when they’re provoked.

Part of it is that a Catholic mass, or more specifically a Catholic homily, normally isn’t videotaped and broadcast. From having sat in close to 19 years worth of homilies previously, I can easily say that straying from ritual isn’t the strong suit of most priests. That’s not the case with a more fundamentalist church, where it’s largely focused around preaching. I regularly hear radio ads for a “sermon series” at local churches which span a number of weeks, which you definitely don’t see in Catholic mass.

Look like very insecure people. The only reason that their denominations exist is because Catholics got it wrong. So it can be very disturbing to them when they see Catholics like Mother Teresa and John Paul 2. Ego and pride eaten into their hearts and Catholics must be wrong need to emphasized again and again. Doesn’t matter if in the process they make fools of themselves.

But having said that, there are many Protestants who don’t share this behaviour. Especially those who have been in contact with Catholics and understand the reasons behind Catholic pratctices and doctrines. And they can see for themselves that, hey, Catholics are not really bad Christians after all. 🤷

I completely agree. I have a Southern Baptist friend, who is having me record my RCIA classes every week, so she can learn about the Catholic Church. She says that she’ll probably never become Catholic, but she’s interested in knowing what the beliefs of the Catholic Church are, and why we believe them. Even the Missionary Baptist preacher where I work didn’t have anything bad to say about Catholics when I told him that I was becoming Catholic. It’s just fundamentlists that I have a problem with, but I’ve even seen a fiew of them who don’t have those hateful views.

Sad things. If any consolation…I don’t hate Catholics…

I think the Internet (and YouTube specifically) brings out the worst in people. It’s faceless, and you can be a totally different person than your public “created self”: you can say things in a way you never would in person.

And while it’s true that there are some Catholics who bash on fundamentalists, it’s not even close to being a 1:1 ratio. Karl Keating’s Catholicism and Fundamentalism is well worth the read, especially if you end up in a position where you want to talk to one of the bomb-throwers.

YouTube is not just anti-catholic. It is anti-everything. I have seen videos of Atheists bashing Catholics/Protestants, and then Catholics/Protestants uniting (believe it or not) to fight them. Happy days. 😛

I think we should all be rather thankful that we are not as attacked as Muslims are. Muslims go through much more on YouTube then we do, they are now all “terroists” and “wife beaters” to the average ignorant human.

GodTube is where you might want to go. I go their some for religious debates.

Thanks for telling me about GodTube. I’ve never been there, but I’ll check it out.

First of all, Catholic bashing has been going on since the ti mes of the Reformation, and even before then. Some people cannot handle the truth, so they must bash it as the only way to console themselves about the church that Christ established. There are jealousies (as a Jewish man once told me that he was jealous we celebrate Christmas and have a beautiful Vatican). And there is hatred that there are 1.5 BILLION Catholics and more converts than ever coming hometo Rome and the church Christ founded.
Just type in this here : GINO JENNINGS #609 PART 8, and you will see the ignorance and the hatred toward us. Just type this one on youtube and click search.

I think ag_not is talking about sites like this one, run by followers of a faith system but not official representatives of it.

I agree with you overall. Major non-Catholic denominations do not publish hate for anyone on their sites. Now some of the small groups, like Seventh Day Adventists might.

Youtube is a polemic venue. Bottom line. To expect otherwise is naive. If you go chasing rats in a sewer, you are going to catch rats.

There are many that “bag on Catholics”…maybe not necessarily the “official websites” of major denominations…but the reality is this: The “Official Websites” are not likely to do it, as they are not foolish enough to do something that can be put right back on them by the average Catholic apologist.

The WELS official website does, and there are a number of others that do, though most of them…as false and trash filled as they are…the owners haven’t the guts to post their ownership or even “denominational affiliation”.

There is a significant difference between an individual Catholic or even 500 on this site expressing a difference of opinion regarding other religions, and sites that are what I consider “hatemongering” …actually bordering on hate-speech, and that are full of falsehoods and lies.

Before throwing a rock at a Catholic who is not afraid to defend his or her faith on this site…look to the non-Catholics that come here and end up getting “banned” and look at why they get banned…it certainly wasn’t because they were “pro-Catholic”.

Should you not believe my statement that there are many sites out there that wantonly attack Catholicism…try me. I will not post those sites openly…but I can provide links to them, including one that actually had the nerve to complain that when Mother Theresa was ill…about the fact that she got good hospital care!!

Personally…I think people who set up sites like that are borderline sociopaths…they certainly aren’t “Christians”… they are more of the ilk known as “xtians”.

On that … I agree with you completely!!

Anybody with an axe to grind can post a video there…and given First Amendment Rights…can say just a bout anything and probably get away with it as well. Afterall, junior nazi skinheads post lots of sick videos and it seems a lot of people watch them  😦
