What's with all the Protestant fundamentalist hatred for Catholics on YouTube?

WELS…the 39th largest Protestant denomination…or around there…

Now some of the small groups, like Seventh Day Adventists might.
Just a small point… 🙂 Here is a link to the Seventh Day Adventist site…appears official, and its actually the link to a subpage I had to find by doing an actual search of their site… adventist.org/beliefs/statements/main_stat42.html Its interesting, and it really isn’t bad at all. And considering the overall import of the page, its really quite mild…and compared to some websites I’ve seen, I have to essentially say theirs is “non-offensive”, and to a historical viewpoint…there is a fact or two in their favor… :o

Personally, I’ve known Seventh Day Adventists…and never had a problem with them. My grandparents and my wife have all been treated in Adventists Hospitals…and their religion was clearly noted…and they were always treated very well, and all were visited by a Parish Priest regularly… 🙂

Granted, but when you consider that they are but one part of a significantly large sub-denomination of much larger denomination…

I won’t go into what they say on their site, just suffice it to say that it appears that the rest of the major denomination has divested itself on the issue.

The point is simply…it does appear here and there, and while while subsets do it, the mainstream churches are intelligent enough not to.

As people, I have never known a bad one, either.

As a denomination, they are very anti-Catholic.

And anti-anyone else as a rule.

Maybe, SDA may not be as bad as it’s made out to be, but just like in any other Christian denomination, they have their fanatics. I’ve seen some SDA fanatics on YouTube, and those fanatics are filled with hate, just like most other fanatics in any religion. Supposedly, it was SDA’s who came up with the “Vicarius Filii Dei/666” thing. I don’t know if those were just fanatics, or if they were in the mainstream.

The misguided Protestant belief in faith alone for salvation is one of the reasons they are so anti-Catholic as they believe that they are the true Christians.

That’s why their main means of practicing their faith is through proselytization. In my experience, they do very little charity work (in their church) and concentrate only on gaining converts to their church.

The Roman Catholic Church, with its belief that both faith and good works are necessary for salvation allows it to focus on relieving the suffering in the world and proclaiming the Word of God through words and actions.

On a community service trip to Mexico with my parish, we were told that the locals were irritated with some Protestant groups who came to give them assistance IF they converted. This led a Catholic priest to start a non-denominational organization to provide aid to the poor with no strings attached.

More than likely, they were fanatics lead by the OFFICIAL teaching that The Catholic Church IS the Whore of Babylon. IF you read the SDA site, they make it clear that they have no issues with Catholics but they hold to the prophacies as they interpret them.

First of all, Catholic bashing has been going on since the ti mes of the Reformation, and even before then. Some people cannot handle the truth, so they must bash it as the only way to console themselves about the church that Christ established. There are jealousies (as a Jewish man once told me that he was jealous we celebrate Christmas and have a beautiful Vatican). And there is hatred that there are 1.5 BILLION Catholics and more converts than ever coming hometo Rome and the church Christ founded.
Just type in this here : GINO JENNINGS #609 PART 8, and you will see the ignorance and the hatred toward us. Just type this one on youtube and click search.
how can anyone listen to so much ignorance? that is what happen when people get a hold of the Bible and think they understand. Lord have Mercy.

Again, it goes both ways.

It’s funny how a particular behavior can be regarded as repulsive going one way, but back the other way an entirely different standard is applied. Damning anyone who rejects the Catholic church is “exposing someone to the truth”, damning anyone who accepts the Catholic church is “grossly offensive”.
Shhhhhh! That’s a secret!

😃

But seriously … you’re quite right in saying that it go both ways, but the thing is, since Vatican II Catholics have dropped much or even most of the shrill rhetoric that we used to use – an interesting point for conservative Protestants and Orthodox to consider, since many of them like to use Vatican II as a basis for criticizing Catholicism.

I have seen such disgusting things on youtube I wondered if the KKK was still active

I have never seen a Catholic make a video about protestants that is anything like the filth I have seen…If they have ,I will pray for them, and I apologized for what they have done…People that do this kind of thing are not Christian to begin with…they are simply bigots using God as a club to beat someone else with

You appear to have a highly skewed view.

As far as work for the poor and opressed, I applaud your efforts but absolutely refuse to accept this complete caricature you are presenting.

I could go on and on. Maybe I should to make a point.

Reply to the orginal question.

I suspect at base it is because of a lack of understanding about “TRUTH” itself. Pope Benedict in his first homily as our Supreme Pontiff expressed: “there cannot be your truth and my truth, but only the one truth.”

With some 35,000 active (and the number is quickly growing) christian (small"c") denominations, it would appear that a great many are searcing for “the truth,” but many more have settled in to accept “their own truth.”

Catholism has always been under attack, just as Jesus said we would be. For at least the past 800 years, various off-shoots to Catholism (a fact some neither know or acknowledge) have found Catholic bashing easy, and even necessary to support their errent positions. One supposes that a rare few might even enjoy it? The motive for most however, is an attempt to justify there own beliefs, which is always easier than ferreting out the single truth, and explains the explosion in christain denominations.😊

Ask our friends: “If one were to ask you to describe the message of the entire bible, both the OT and the NT in a single word. What would that one word HAVE TO BE?”:o

LOVE:thumbsup:

Jesus assures us that His Church will win in the end. In the meantime, we should respond in charity, and in carefully defined truth.👍

Well, my experience has mainly been with Evangelical Christians, but I’m sure that the mainline Protestant denominations (e.g., Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Baptist etc.) have views that are more closely aligned with the Catholic Church. I know a few Seventh Day Adventists, Episocopalians and non-Denominational Christians who seem like authentic practicing Christians.

I do know some of my Evangelical friends have prayer books that pray for the conversion of Catholics and I’ve been told by an Evangelical TV personality that I’m going to hell, but you’re right, Protestants are varied within their various denominations and Catholics do acknowledge the presence of God working in our Protestant brethren.

As all of you probably know, SDA’s definitely aren’t the only ones who think that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon. I think that that idea may have been around since at least the time of Martin Luther.

True, but to my knowledge, they are the only “mainline” group that actually has it as an item of doctrine.

Here’s a good example of the types of fundamentalists I’m talking about.

Look at this guy’s channel. People like him are the reason that some Catholics view Protestants as Mary-haters and the like. He has some extremely hateful anti-Catholic videos, and his responses to others’ comments are snide and inconsiderate to say the least. Some of his videos appear to be soley designed to stir up trouble, and to cause divisions within the body of Christ. People like him should be banned from the internet!

REPLY:

This statement begs a very obvious question.

But before I ask it allow me to assure all readers of this post that I am an informend, fully practicng Roman Catholic.🙂

Does this mean that their “mother” is a whore?😃 OFF COURSE NOT and I’m being silly:)

Do they not understand that Christ instituted ONLY one Church, and it is the RCC. Perhaps we need to teach on THIS topic more often. They remain in some mysterious way, our brothers and sisters.

I don’t think the statement applies particularly well to Evangelicals as a group either, though as has come up in prior threads a generational gap may be at hand here, as Evangelical attitudes towards Catholicism seem to have changed quite a bit in the last 50 years.

I’ve noticed that in the comments for most of the Catholic videos that I’ve watched on YouTube, some Protestant fundamentalist, and his or her cronies, jump in with ad-hominem arguments and insults against the Catholic Church. These people are very judgemental, and in some cases, they condemn all Catholics to Hell. Other Protestant fundamentalists make provocative anti-Catholic videos, just to start fights. I wish that YouTube would do something about these extremely hateful religious zelots, but nothing is being done. I’m sick and tired of reading terms like “wafer-god,” “cookie,” and “cracker,” to describe the holy Eucharist, and I’m sick and tired of these people calling us “unsaved,” “Hell-bound,” “idolaters,” “Mary worshipers,” etc, and quoting out of context scripture verses, usually from the KJV, to try to prove their points. I wish that for once, that we could enjoy a Catholic video on YouTube, without someone jumping in and trying to ruin it for us. Sorry, but I just had to vent.
If we’re right they’re wrong and they find that quite threatening, hence the overboard reaction.

That’s probably true for some of them. Many of them seem very insecure in their religious beliefs.
