Where’s the R&B and funk choices??? With a little Reggae in the mix ???

Oh, well, I guess I’ll just have to go with classical, then. 😉
Not much for reggae, but I too noticed the absence of the R&B and funk options.:bigyikes:

How about some Tower of Power? I have to have the funk with a big fat horn section.🙂

Hi! I like lots of music! I like rock(some), oldies (50’s-70s’) and very little country. I also like some world music too.😉

 **Christian music. I’m 40 and the kids always tell me that the music is to loud. Jesus loves you. Blessings to you all. !/**SIZE]. 👍

Hey. Loyola - remember the Bob Segar System? We had them play a dance at Bishop Duffy High in New York when I was a freshman, around 1966 0r 1967.
Man, you don’t really think I’m THAT old, now do you? I was born 2 days before Kennedy died…my only memories of 1966-67 are limited to puppies, getting my own bedroom, and getting my first tricycle.

You didn’t have gospel on there, limit on how many choices.

Good topic! smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/15/15_1_125.gif
There is quite a bit of overlap in country and gospel. You can even hear them play some of the gospel songs on country radio. In fact Randy Travis’ last couple albums were gospel and he even got an award for one of them!

As for me, I like BOTH kinds of music.
Country and Western!

Gregorian Chant all the way! Even secular “spiritualists” use Gregorian Chant in their “meditations” because it has been proven to have an affect on your state of mind and stress level. Is it a coincidence that the Catholic Church has what is basically considered music in its purest form…I think not and since I am a choir geek in the highest degree I am looking for a Gregorian Chant group to sing with. I don’t think there are any in my area though. 😦

Whadda mean UGH Pink Floyd ?!?!? 😃

I like the blues, too…anything from B.B. King to Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Pink Floyd was the best breakup music ever. Went to see the wall my sophomore year in college the night I broke up with the “love of my life”. Well it was that or something not so legal for a 20 y/o to do. So four of us went and it was the best medicine ever…someone else was more depressed than I was!

Well, that’s a good way of looking at it. BTW, if you write crapola, it stays on, but if you write ****, it gets blocked out.

See what I mean?

Bob Segar
Bob Seger is a really nice guy in person, too. I’m old enough to remember his $1.00 concerts at the Lincoln Park Theater, and just recently, he came to visit a sick girl in the neighborhood. He is a total sweetheart!

I voted none of the above. I love Gregorian Chant, Palestrina and Celtic music.🙂 Oh and I almost forgot…Rock ‘n’ Roll!

Electronica (we used to call it techno but that is a very specific label these days)
80’s synth pop
80’s and early 90’s “new wave”
What used to be called “prog rock” - Yes, King Crimson, some Rush
Classical (Debussy, Ravel, early Stravinsky … Firebird especially and Holsts’ The Planets)
Jazz (think Monk for old style and Bela Fleck for contemporary and I like a strong jazz influence in the other genres that I prefer)

My favorite albums of all time, leaning towards my decidedly electronic and new wave core are
808 State - Ex:El
L.F.O. - Frequencies
Pet Shop Boys - Actually
Clan Of Xymox - Medusa
Future Sound Of London - Lifeforms
Erasure - Erasure
Bjork - Post
Severed Heads - Come Visit The Big Bigot
Jazzanova - In Between
Squarepusher - Feed Me Weird Things

Right now I am into Etro Anime, Zero 7 and the like. If anyone is even remotely on the same page as me, I highly recommend the Jazzanova album. One vulgarity you need to be aware of but outside of that it is the best album I have bought in about 5 years.

It was hard to pick one because I listen to a lot of jazz, rock & pop stuff, but since I listen to jazz more than anything else overall, I went with that. Miles, Monk, Coltrane, Metheny & Gilberto are at the top of my list.

I don’t get into much CCM at all, but I love Delirious? (the question mark is part of their name). Think of U2 if they didn’t stop writing about Christian themes or go off into that goofy “Zooropa” direction. But not only is their music great; their lyrics are subtle, strong on the Christian message without being preachy, and not full of the “I’m happy and feel like dancing 24 hours a day” message that’s found in a lot of CCM.

For those of you who like Gregorian chant and jazz, seek out “Officium” by Jan Garbarek with the Hilliard Ensemble. It’s four male voices singing “Officium Defunctorum” (by Renaissance composer Cr’stobal de Morales) in a cathedral with Garbarek’s soprano and tenor saxes floating around them and augmenting them. It’s a little different when you first hear it, but it soon enough gels. And thank the Lord that it’s nothing like Kenny G. playing over Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” !

I picked Classic Rock only because you didn’t put an “80s big hair hard rock and heavy metal” choice… seriously.

Most of what I listen to now, though, is Christian Music. Unfortunatley, I’ve only found a couple harder groups that I like in this genre, but I don’t mind the CCM - in fact, some of it is downright listenable. And since I have worked with the youth, I pick up a lot of Praise and Worship.

Mostly, though, I work on my own stuff and don’t take a tone of time anymore to listen to anything consistently.

I mean hell I like the Mama’s and the Papas and the Band? what couold be less trendy thatn that?
Umm Roy Orbison, but i love him. I also love Janis Joplin. According to my hubby as long as they are dead i will like them.

LR / Bud - you’re just a kid…and enjoy it! :yup:

As for music, I was weened on the greats of Rock: Jimi, Cream, Zepp, Tull… but now I’m into:
  • Blind (Rev) Gary Davis
  • Son House
  • Bukka White
  • Big Bill Broozny
  • Sonny Terrie / Brownie McGhee
  • etc, etc.
Lots of these blues legends also composed sang gospel blues… awesome stuff. It’s hard to believe sometimes that one man and a beat up guitar could make so much beautiful music.

Peace,
John

I voted for Classic Rock and Classical music. I love them both. And I also love jambands - especially Phish and their predecessors the Grateful Dead. IMO music cannot get any better.
