I thought this would be fun. Whats your default restaurant? You know what I mean. That restaurant that you eat at when you want to eat out but your not in the mood for one certain thing.

For me my default restaurant is a little local BBQ place. They have the best BBQ sandwiches in town:thumbsup: 😃

Cute topic.😛

We tend to default to “Hungy Harry’s” (bbq place too) or “Village Inn.” I just love breakfast for dinner, and Village Inn is a cheaper way to go out for dinner without breaking the bank. 👍 Chili’s is right up the road, so that sometimes works.

Olive Garden used to be a staple, and Red Lobster but those are a far drive for us now in Florida. But, those are good too!

Sadly, sometimes Cold Stone Creamery is our default. 😊

There’s a small, local Greek restaurant about a mile from my house that is soooooooo good! The owner doesn’t even need to give me a menu, he just brings me my iced tea and asks if I’m having my usual.

Cracker Barrel for breakfast or lunch. The one by our house has a low-carb menu . The grilled chicken salad is delicious. Of course, I have to shop a little while I’m there;) .
Wild Wing Cafe for the best wings around.
Midori, a locallly owned Sushi restaurant for the best Sushi ever.
La Nopelera, a locally owned authentic, inexpensive, good Mexican restaurant.
The best steaks & barbeque are at my house, compliments of DH! The best Italian is at my house, compliments of me:D !

Terlingua Texas Border Cafe, because of the Super Terlingua Margarita, which being pregnant is completely off limits for me. I’m actually kinda sick of the place, but it’s often the only time I get off from dinner duty. We usually go Friday or Saturday night.

The margarita there is really very good. They use a good quality white tequila, and instead of triple sec, they use Grand Marnier. My husband’s spoiled on them, no one else can make them like they do at Terlingua. I’m always designated driver too…

Denny’s because of course one of my privileges as a Senior member of CAF is ordering from their senior menu. actually for a long time it was the only game in town, unless you prefer Mexican (at least 3 on every block) or truck stop. The Flying J actually is not bad, but the no smoking section is too small. We just got an IHOP woo woo. love those crepes.

Mexican is my least favorite ethnic food so there are not a lot of options, in our town, have to go to McAllen for Olive Garden etc. For fish the standard plate is either grilled or fried fish and/or shrimp, haddock I think, fresh caught in the gulf, so actually a better deal and fresher than most chains.

this is Texas but it is hard to get a good steak outside a chain steakhouse, as the concept of medium rare is unknown to this culture. Fajitas on the other hand originated here, and you will get none better anywhere in the country, and is becoming my favorite, and about all I will eat at a TexMex place. Local BBQ is of course outstanding and every town has a good one.

we have a new car wash with an astonishingly good restaurant, with standard sandwiches with high quality ingredients, with extra twists, Greek and other ethnic specialties, even sushi. That is our favorite lunch place.

There’s a little tiny restaurant behind the academy where I teach at. The sign says “The Palace” (in Korean) but we all call it “Mom’s” because it’s the main place we frequent. “Mom” is always happy to see us, remembers our names, and asks after us with our colleagues if we don’t each come in at least twice a week. She remembers that my colleague is vegetarian, and serves vegetarian side dishes when he’s with us. She remembers that I love mushrooms and only ever eat half my rice, so she gives me extra servings of mushrooms and small servings of rice. The food is basic Korean soups - I tend to get spicy tofu soup, beef and noodle soup, or bean paste soup. They’re all super-good!

Close to home, my default restaurant is the bakery across the street. They have nice sandwiches - I could eat their ham & cheese on a sesame baguette for lunch every day!

Default breakfast is the coffee and waffle place.
Default special dinner is the Indian place.
Default cheap beer is the corner store.
Default not-quite-as-cheap beer is the Mexican place.

For special family occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc.), we go to Mother Tucker’s. We like the salad bar because it has every kind of pickle (including pickled beets), cheese, lettuce, cold vegetable, and pasta that you can think of, plus sweet bell peppers of every kind. We also like their roast beef. 🙂

For breakfast/lunch on the road, it’s always either the Husky truck stop or Denny’s.

For quick snacks, it’s either Wendy’s or A&W.

When we don’t feel like cooking but we want to eat in, it’s either Singapore Sam’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken.

When I’m at work and I need to stop for a meal, I like Rice for King, which is a new Vietnamese place that just opened up down the street from where I work. I love their spring rolls and rice vermecelli. 🙂

Cheddars – their chicken tortilla soup is the best!!!
Yum! I can taste it now. 🙂 There was a place in Pittsburgh…Max & Erma’s…and they too made a killer tortilla soup…I mean…KILL-EERRRR. I miss that place. 😦

The New Riegel Cafe in New Riegel, Ohio, which is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Three waitresses have been serving for 38 years each. We sat for more than 1-1/2 hours this past weeknight, for they had a coupon in the paper for their celebration: 1/2 off second order. There is a gift shop staffed by a family member of great age, who’s son bought my Grandpa’s house on the farm. The gift shop has wash rags, small kids toys, jewelry, candy, religious items, stuff to set around, woodcraft items … sweatshirts, pillows, you name it. Barbecued ribs and chicken over fries, buttered bread and celery in one paper boat, with a wash rag … salad offered, beer too, etc. Doggy bags. People travel from all over the area to come here, but, there are some who just won’t, maybe out of jealousy? although people have their tastes about barbecue, I am told … They sell their homemade hot dogs, homemade sticks of bologna and sticks of sausage, which we always buy after they are made on Mondays.

New Riegel’s Parish is now All Saints Parish, and includes 2 nearby Churches as Chapels. Settled by Catholic Germans and Luxembourgers. Once had a convent for the Precious Blood nuns, and also had the men for Priests. Near to the Immaculate Conception Shrine in Carey, OH.

All these chain places, Applebees, Chili’s - UGH.

We are local eateries people. Default is the “yankee grill” or the new “red oak station”. For Italian, it is Facci’s down by the racetrack. All you can eat sketti for 3.49.

We have a series of little Greek restaurants we use. They are called “little Greek restaurants” but they might not be run by Greeks. Did you see the restaurant in “My Big, Fat Greek Wedding?” Like that, like Dancing Zorba’s. They make all sorts of food, not just Greek. Breakfast can be big, and includes 10 or 12 different omelets, pancakes (always an option from toast), different crepes, loads of pork products. There’s always a BLT club on the menu, and something known as “Soup Z” which is a bowl of soup and grilled cheese sandwich. There’s always a 3-piece chicken dinner with slaw and fried, and always fish on Friday. “Ala carte” means a salad OR soup, generous bread basket, and the entree with a veg and potato. “Whole meal” means soup AND salad, generous bread basket, entree with a veg and starch, beverage, maybe a short beer or a glass of wine, plus a choice of dessert.
