The New Riegel Cafe in New Riegel, Ohio, which is celebrating their 50th anniversary. Three waitresses have been serving for 38 years each. We sat for more than 1-1/2 hours this past weeknight, for they had a coupon in the paper for their celebration: 1/2 off second order. There is a gift shop staffed by a family member of great age, who’s son bought my Grandpa’s house on the farm. The gift shop has wash rags, small kids toys, jewelry, candy, religious items, stuff to set around, woodcraft items … sweatshirts, pillows, you name it. Barbecued ribs and chicken over fries, buttered bread and celery in one paper boat, with a wash rag … salad offered, beer too, etc. Doggy bags. People travel from all over the area to come here, but, there are some who just won’t, maybe out of jealousy? although people have their tastes about barbecue, I am told … They sell their homemade hot dogs, homemade sticks of bologna and sticks of sausage, which we always buy after they are made on Mondays.
New Riegel’s Parish is now All Saints Parish, and includes 2 nearby Churches as Chapels. Settled by Catholic Germans and Luxembourgers. Once had a convent for the Precious Blood nuns, and also had the men for Priests. Near to the Immaculate Conception Shrine in Carey, OH.
