When dating how frequent should communication be?

This is largely due to girls also playing mind games, yes when you’re older people just want to settle down and have kids bla bla, but when you’re in your teens to mid 20’s I’d say the mind games are fairly common place.

Furthermore it’s largely the girls that are into mind games, not guys.

If all you can find are game players, then play the game 😉
Mind games are simply for the insecure.

Indeed. I’d be more apt to consider River’s dating advice if he would tell us how it led him to a long, loving, successful marriage. He doesn’t appear to be married, though. Perhaps once he does tie the knot, he can come back and share with us how the game-playing has enriched his marriage. 😉
Funny…lol :D:thumbsup:

I was insecure and mind games were grapeshot for me and not a fun thing. Right now, several years and several mental decades later (or at least it feels like that), I could probably outgame any girl or woman of the femme fatale sort, including the most notorious drama queens, but I don’t care to play. I content myself with being able to detect most problems before they even finish manifesting properly, and limiting myself to the reasonable person standard. Ekhmm…

Don’t know what grapeshot is - but I should say mind games are for the insecure and immature. Sounds like you have gained maturity and thus mind games are not an option. Any woman is blessed to have you, such a wise soul.

I am betting most of us could get a great mind game volly going - but we rise above that because it is not a Christian thing to test others in such a twisted way.

The OP sounds like she is absolutely well grounded. She will find a great man in God’s time that treats her respectfully and lovingly.

wow - that said, you guys sound like a great match come to think of it…😛

:ehh: ummm… with no mind games…?

🤷
Lost the plot early I see? If you can’t deal with the stresses of simple mind games, which aren’t really much of a stress to begin with, how is marriage going to work out? Yes, no mind games is my point, and it’s a lot more stressful.

Gee I don’t know, when I look at all these old 50’s love songs, they seem to reek of girls and guys playing mind games with each other, it’s been around for a while, and it will be. Learn to have fun.

Old anti-personnel ammo.

I think most of the games were either unintended by the girls or even imagined by my brain. I had a knack for could-have-beens changing their minds from spectacularly lured to spectacularly indifferent and a knack for quarrels about time together in more pronounced relationships. That and communication/conflict solving style differences. I’m a value builder, but I don’t shy away from arguing ideas or points, I love to focus and hate multitasking, doesn’t mean I have Kasparov’s attention span, no, more like House. I expect people to make sense and I see things (have you met a know-it-all that finishes sentences for people?), plus I want people to be kind, non-agressive and at least a bit empathic (just make the effort). This cuts the pool in 10. Ah, and I value symmetry in relationships. Another one.
Any woman is blessed to have you, such a wise soul.
Thank you. 🙂 Wish that were true. I hope to meet someone who’ll put up with me and vice versa.

She needs more patience, less compromise and a bit more action perhaps.

I have a picture of what man she needs and I’m not that. She needs a guy that’s decisive but doesn’t fill the whole room and you don’t see him around every corner, warm-blooded but emotionally a little bit cool, interested but cool about it, involved in sports, keeping himself fit, a bit on the introverted side, knowing how to behave but not being a socialite. Something like a military officer from a technical or science specialisation, if we extrapolate the traits a bit.

By contrast, yours truly is a scoundrel of a lawyer that can win an argument while being blatantly wrong, writes 150 page briefs, gets away with anything using people skills, gets any job done as long as it involves people skills, gets elected easily, pulls stuff out of his head like House and is a mean bastard that can’t be bothered to do any sports but isn’t stopped on his way by coughing his own blood out when racing with a missed bus to the first stop, or jumps out of a cab and rushes between cars to get to court in time …And can’t decide on a gift in less than 2 hours. And wants everybody to get along and doesn’t understand why people need to be so assertive and adamantly selfish. And sometimes loses his voice in private situations and can be pretty boring and have little to say, actually. And can be clumsy, mentally too on some days. And can’t drive (or bike or skate or swim) and last went to gym like 5 years ago and only because it was necessary for a nerdy quiz (“Your Own D&D Stats” no less). And has mess in his room. Two different types of doods. 😛

That’s a valid point, but people become self-destructive when they insist on following the one who gives them thrill and challenge instead of the one that offers companionship, support, stability, fidelity and commitment; often mistaking bad manners for strength and manliness - or titillation for a nice personality or kind character. Same old stuff with games in the beginning, same old stuff with a psychotic ex in the end.

Sure I play games while fishing, strictly speaking. A smile, a gaze, an odd remark, a well-placed comment, a probing question, a trail, a bait. Action and reaction. You see fish, you throw bait, it catches, you pull… You’d be surprised what I can pull off on a particularly cheesy day (I once picked up a call from a boss in a law firm in French and ask if she was calling to invite me for a coffee… and I went to that coffee), but no sick stuff like having someone fall for you, then pulling away, or sending mixed signals, or ostensibly changing mind, or overduing the suspense and so on, that stuff’s just twisted and sick. I don’t even want to wonder what kind of morbid pleasure people find in that, and I simply hope that in most cases it’s just immaturity, indecision, random stupidity and whatever else (and in the instant case it’s possible someone told the guy he wasn’t free to date).

Keep in mind. the people writing those songs were not adults, and they certainly were not married, yet - a lot of those song-writers were 12 year olds. I wouldn’t take the words of a song written by a child or teenager (which is a whole different thing than a children’s song) as good advice to the lovelorn.

Well I did get a message this morning saying he’d had been busy. Hum…4 days and he couldn’t fit in even one text to me. Wants to go out on short notice. Sorry I have other plans which indeed I do. I honestly made other plans last night. 🤷
sierrah, I would think this was a good thing on your part. I have experienced similar behavior from a man in the past…it just leaves one feeling uncertain and suspicious…and you don’t need that…

Well I emailed him on Saturday and said if he didn’t want to see me anymore that was ok no hard feelings but I justed wanted to know where I stood.

He replied and we met up Sunday and had a heart to heart talk. He was sensing a lack of chemistry in our relationship he while he really liked me he didn’t believe we could get past this. To tell the truth I can’t blame him as I look back on it I can see how he would think that but it’s more due to stresses I’ve been under having to do with money and job stuff. He wanted to let go but I could tell it was hard for him. He asked to remain friends and keep in touch but I don’t know if I can do that feeling about him the way I do. After we said goodbye it’s like he took my heart with him. 🤷 He was literally very busy and just didn’t get back with me yet because he said he needed space to think about all this. I really wish him well and hope I can get over this soon. I sort of saw it coming but that never makes it easier.🤷

*Only one word comes to mind…“NEXT!” 😃

I’m bad, I know. In all seriousness, if you seemed to be exclusive, if he was giving you the idea that you were both exclusive and things were progressing, then I’d say it was rude of him to not call you. If you were not all that serious, then, it’s not rude, really.

I agree with 1ke as I normally do…I think there are a lot of variables, that I’d need to know, before giving a surefire opinion.*

Is it any wonder at all that so many people on these forums have problems finding dates.

There’s nothing wrong with some mind games every now and then, if you can’t take a bit of suspense early on, I wonder how you’re going to actually deal with the stresses of a married life after that.
If you want to play a game, play monopoly. Don’t play with people’s minds and hearts. 😦

Are we sure he’s not married? Living with a woman, married? Just saying…just throwing it out there. 😊

*Oh, I’m sorry, I should have read through the thread first.

Hugs to you, as well… :hug1: *
