When will the insanity end?

I don’t know …do you have any suggestions? 😃
I just want to know how best to answer your question. If you really are looking for Chrisitan unity, then there is going to have to be some give and take. It can’t be all of one side converting to the other.

I have yet to hear from you regarding my original questions in the first part of post #158.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I would like to hear the “official” non-Catholic, Protestant and/or “former Catholic” response to this, if there is one, my guess is that there are many different Protestant “twists” on this subject.
I can’t figure out why unity is so important. It’s not like there is objective truth.

You know, I have read so many of the posts that are started like this and I have to say that I can’t really figure out what is trying to be accomplished. I have seen in various threads, just in the last month alone, claims that there are 2,000, 3,000, 33,000, and 40,000 different denominations. Well, which is it?

Also, has anyone ever stopped to think that people come here to honestly see what real-life Catholics think? As a “Protestant” (what does that even really mean in 2008 A.D. anyway?) seeking to find out what Catholicism is all about, I am shocked at the lack of love and compassion for non-Catholics when I see threads like this. I guess I see The Great Commission as a way to LOVINGLY show people the ways of Christianity.

To the OP: no “Protestant” that I have ever come in contact with takes internet certification, the miracle workers that heal you on TV, the prosperity gospel, or any other group that goes off the deep end and strays from orthodox teaching seriously. Actually, most of the people I know are surprisingly in line with the CC in theology (obviously not all the way, but you’d be surprised at how much all these “non-denominational, Bible-only” churches that are truly following the Bible are in line with CC teaching.)
Hello Lil_Cat,

Some answers can be found in your own questions.

You can start here (read the footnotes), here, here, here, here, here and here, to find out what Catholics believe.

Peace 🙂

Wow Coach!

You sound really angry! To be honest I haven’t read all of Jimmy’s posts in this thread, but I’ve read enough elsewhere to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I can’t believe you managed to mention the priest sex abuse scandal, Vatican monetary holdings, and even “Romanistic” rule all in one post. This doesn’t do much in the way of painting you anything other than a conspiracy theorist wary of the Big Bad Catholic Church Monster.

Your points are not legitimate arguments against the Catholic Church’s claim to authority.

Who are you mad at? Is it really the Catholic Church?

RAR

p.s. Julianna, I think we need more dogma and less relativism. Pride re-writes history and sound teaching.

Semantics? come now you can do better. What I mentioned you are taking out of context. I challenge the “authority” based on its lack of foundation. Instead of going off half cocked and accusing me of anger (which is funny considering your post) try following a little more closely.

Jimmy B,

I am well aware of the links. DH is a devout Catholic and I have been going to the CC with him for more than a year, and in addition these are all bookmarked on the computer I am currently on. These still don’t answer my question. If you could kindly answer them directly, I would be most grateful. Thanks!

I dont think many here are capable of answering ANYTHING directly or specifically.

Now sarcasm, huh? What I commented on was, indeed, angry talk. You’ll be taken a lot more seriously if you bring it down a notch.

And, I’m not sure what you mean by semantics, but I did admit I hadn’t read the entire thread.

Do you believe in authority? If not the Catholic Church, then who?

  1. What is he trying to accomplish? In my opinion (because I think I’m much the same), Jimmy can’t understand how anyone can be Christian and not accept the Catholic Church as the one, holy, cathlic, and apostolic church.
  2. Number of denominations? I don’t know, but I think the point is there are many and this would speak to a lot of theological confusion.
  3. Stopped to think? Yes, I have. I spent many years “swimming” in what I called a sea of denominations and not knowing where to land. (BTW, I’m surprised more Protestants don’t reject the name “Protestant”)
Well, that’s a start. I didn’t find a lot of “?s” in there, but I did the best I could.

Do you have other questions for follow-up?

RAR

p.s. Oh, and from my point of view, I don’t mean any disrespect to non-Catholic Christians, but I do struggle with why they are not Catholic… though I understand it isn’t as clear cut for everyone.

Thanks RAR!

I’m trying my best to come to that conclusion, its just taking a while to undo 25 years of theology.

"Jimmy B:
When will the insanity end? When will all the infighting stop? When will there be true Christian unity…unity in beliefs?
You mean hen will everyone be RC,dont you?
You know, I think that is EXACTLY what he means!
I would like to hear a CAtholic theologian try it, or for that matter, answer as to why Peter was not the head of the church at Jerusalem.
That is probably grist for another thread, but it was customary in those days for the younger to yield to the Elder. We can see from Peter’s letters that he was a very humble man. We can also see that he was also gadding about Palestine making converts, so he may not have had time to watch over a single parish.
"Jimmy B:
Imagine how much greater Christianity would be and all the great things that we could accomplish, working together as one faith, which was truly united…
You mean under Rome’s control, dont you?
Not sure what you mean by that. What type of “control” do you imagine? What if we were just unified in faith with Rome?
"JimmyB:
What is a “non-denominational ministers” anyways…this does not even make any sense.
I think most non-denoms actually are denominational, but have not gone to the trouble to find out which one.
It makes pefect sense, it mean free to follow Christ and Christ alone.
The problem with this is that Christ was never alone. He founded a Church, and He placed HIs Apostles in charge of it. He created a Body, and became the Head. Being joined with the head means we are joined with each other.
Some ministers and preachers today wear Rolex watches, drive expensive cars and live in multi-million dollar mansions, all paid for with the monies that were given to them, just like all the RCC money and holdings.with the intention that it would go to help the needy.
Can you give a reference for this? I would like to know how and where money given to the Catholic Church to help the needy has ended up in “holdings”.
Code:
Nope, not everything non-Catholic is Protestant.
Only those who call themselves Christian.
What about a mockery of your own Holy Orders by sexual abuse cases almost without number?
A just question. Is this why you are not a Catholic?
Again, as long as they are not unde Rome’s control, eh? Where do Orthodox clergy fit into your little paradigm?
There is that word “control” again. What does that mean? Jesus asked us for unity in Truth, not in control!

Code:
yet another slanted question
I pray for true Christian Unity….no you dont, you pray for Romanistic rule
How is that slanted? Do you imagine that unity can occur another way? What is “Romanistic rule” and why are you so afraid of it?
[/quote]

The Pope wants unity and discussion then calls other churches defective. He may need less theology and more people skills!
Do you think that all of them have the fullness of what Jesus intended? Even though it is painful to hear, you are basically saying that you think the Roman Catholic Church is defective…how is that different?

You do sound angry. But I did get that you were challenging authority. You sound as though you believe that the Catholic Church forfeieted the authority given by Christ on the basis of sinful persons who used it wrongly.
I dont think many here are capable of answering ANYTHING directly or specifically.
Angry and a bit disgusted too, maybe?

No I challenge its very existence.
