Where are the Bible verses to back up baby sprinkling?

how does your denomination interpret the word water in John 3:5

and also how do they interpret water in
EZ 36:
25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do [them].
I just wish one time that you would check the Bible. I do NOT dispute water baptism for heavens sake, nor does my “denomination”. We baptism when the person has reached his or her age of reason, which differs, and they want to be baptised. It is very important, but it a personal choice as to when.

Leslie,

As I see it, you have seriously mishandle the material you have, “…dug out…” of the Bible. You have also made a public display of your misadventures with Scripture. This is really not a good endorsement for following your example.

I am finding your responses to be more and more brusk. Participation on this list is voluntary. If you continue as you are doing, I won’t be respondng to you any longer. Maybe you would like to “dig out” a verse or two to help you calm down.

God bless
You know, I am tring very hard to “sound” the way I should, but it seems someone is never quite satisfied with the way I type, since you cannot actually hear how I sound now can you. If you don’t want to respond to me that is entirely up to you. I really don’t know how to type any softer.

no u misunderstand me. I assumed u practice water baptism.
But I’d be suprised If your denomination actually believe that the physical act of being in water/sprinkled actually achieves anything other than an outward symbol. And that only belief is all that is needed… Hence my question re the EZ verse

I was taught to follow Jesus Christs example and He was about 30 when He was baptised, and I would say that is not an infant but an adult…now I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure He was an adult.
Yet, as we discussed in another thread, Leslie, you really don’t follow Jesus Christ’s example of how he was baptized, do you, unless you get baptized in the river Jordan by your Essene cousin, yes?

You’ve simply taken one aspect of Christ’s baptism (his being an adult) and assumed (without any Scriptural verse to tell you to do this) that you’re supposed to copy that aspect. Yet you ignore all the other details about his baptism: done in a river (do you take all your congregants to a river? If someone is not baptized in a river is it valid in your pastor’s eyes?), by your cousin who’s been living in the desert for a while. Why don’t you do it that way, the way Jesus gave an example?🤷

Hi, Lielie,

Maybe we just need a ‘time out’ to get our bearings where each of us is coming from…🙂
You know, I am tring very hard to “sound” the way I should, Lielie, this is not an issue of ‘sounding’ - this is not style - this is a content issue. You are not, in my opinion, acting outrageously bad - you are just not producing what is being asked of you.

but it seems someone is never quite satisfied with the way I type, Again, this is not a style issue. Let me explain: when you respond to someone, it is expected that you will explain yourself. Your previous statement of, “No your (sic) wrong” is totally inadequate. You’re required to explain under what conditions you think the poster is in error. When making statements about Christ’s baptism and the current practice of baptism, you are expected to provide at least scriptural evidence to support your position. You may not agree with someone, but, surely the issue is maintain civil dialogue.

since you cannot actually hear how I sound now can you. While no one can ‘hear’ how you sound, it is most important to practice appropriate e-mail etiquette so that you communicate appropriately and effectively. For example, calling someone a moron is not really putting your best foot forward, is it?

If you don’t want to respond to me that is entirely up to you. Thank you. I am aware of this… :D,

I really don’t know how to type any softer. Again, Lielie, this is a content issue. Answer questions presented to you. It may be that you do not have the answer at the tip of your fingers - so, go and research the topic. If you expect others to respect your belief system, then you are responsible for presenting a credible and logical argument. I am confident that you expect to receive responsible answers to your questions. Just take your time and you can make a much better presentation. Now, it could be that after researching a question, you are unable to find the answer you wanted. I think the poster would appreciate you coming back and explaing what you did and the difficulty you encountered. No one has all of the answers all of the time. But, everyone can speak civilly and engage others in respectful dialogue. I think that is the heart of the matter.

God bless.

Hi, PRmerger,

These were two excellent posts 👍

Keep up the good work!

God bless
Actually, now on second thought, I feel a bit sheepish for accepting thanks for those posts–it was really 2 cut/pastes that I did, so I ought not take credit for *that! * 😛

Never met one, but according to what Jesus did…He was and adult, I have always understood that we are to follow His example…show me where I am wrong. Thank you
“Never met one” -

Leslie, we are talking about people who lived in the generation right after Jesus. We are talking about 2,000 years ago. We are not talking about people who are walking around in modern times.

Name one person who lived at that time, who thought that Jesus practiced adults-only Baptism. You can’t, because such a person never existed. The concept of adults-only Baptism is less than 500 years old.

Jesus blessed the little children (Mark 10:13-16) - it’s clear that Jesus thought that little children should be allowed to belong to His Kingdom - that’s why we baptize them. That’s why the people who lived in the time of St. Cyprian of Carthage baptized little babies before they were even eight days old, and why St. Cyprian said it was a good idea to do that, and that people should not feel constrained to wait until the baby was eight days old.

Oh, and one more thought: Jesus was baptized in his 30s–so do you tell adults to wait until they’re 30 to be baptized, to “follow the example of Jesus Christ.”?

Your right…I guess you have been catichemized to. When something is in the catechizm and not the Bible there is a problem…

Didn’t read my reply again I see.

He had reached the age of reason obviouosly before 30, however that is when He chose to be baptized, because that is when He begain His ministry. I said that it was a free choice and you must be of the age of reason to know how important Baptizm is. I am paraphrasing as I am not a parot that can not repeat exactly what I said. however the meaning is exactly the same. I follow His example, making my choice freely and understanding what it means. He obviously did not find it relevant that Mary and Joseph make that choice for Him, becasue until John the Baptist, there was no Baptizm.

Infant baptism is certainly in the Bible - whole households were baptized - they didn’t have “birth control” back then, and they didn’t see children as a burden - therefore, every household with women in it also had children in it.

Jesus blessed the little children. Obviously, He thought they were supposed to be members of His Kingdom. How you get to be a member of Christ’s Kingdom is, you get baptized. 🙂

I know that, thats why I answered the way I did…I really did get it.

Gotcha, then following the example of Christ…and I think John the Baptist would be one person, since he was baptising only adults…no record of one child…I can and I did.

Yes He did bless the children because the deciples where trying to keep them back from Jesus, He was not baptising them…He was making a point about being as a child or you couldnot enter into heaven…refering to their simple faith.

What’s the problem with infant baptism.I never did see a big to-doo about.
Is it forbidden anywhere in the Bible.NO.
In Qumran they practiced a sort of baptism.involving adults.John the Baptist was probably an Essene. So he would practice baptism as his sect did…Does that mean that only the way John baptized was valid? If were really going to do this right according to the bible shouldn’t we all be baptized in the Jordan?
Every Easter we reaffirm our baptismal vows.So we reaffirm our baptism and our belief in Christ and His Church-as adults. Why isn’t that good enough for the naysayers?
And the Didache says that “sprinkling” is just fine.
How baptism is done(except for the trinitarian formula) is not as important as the baptism itself. To say baptism is an adult (or semi-adult) sacrament is not biblical.Again there is nothing in the bible that has expressly stated(except for the trinitarian formula) infants, babies can not be baptized.Talk about your human doctrine.Oy!

Right. And if the simple faith of a child is what is required, to become a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven, then surely the “citizenship ceremony” (Baptism) should be open to children - shouldn’t it? 🤷

I said this agian and I was ignored, so once more.
John the baptiser was not doing Christian baptism, he was doing the Jewish mikveh ceremony which was ideally a submerrsion signifying repentence and yes it was done only for adults.

Many fundamental Christians do not recognise the difference between Christianity and Judaism. Witness the many fundamental “Messianic Jewish” churches which to this day do mikveh instead of Christian baptism (no “water” needed, that is redundant) and the Jewish Passover instead of the Holy Eucharist, and still observe the Jewish calendar to the exclusion of the Christian one.

Jesus went through the Jewish mikveh ceremony, not Christian baptism which never existed before the death and ressurection of Jesus himself.

What does “catemecized” mean?

Maybe Leslie needs to go back to grade school before taking on herself to lecture educated Catholics?

he says
forbid them not
16 But Jesus called them [unto him], and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

I see this far more significant than simply bring them over here…
Forbid them not is a far more broader and far reaching statement particularly that it comes from Jesus who did not waste words.

If you really follow his example then you should have been baptized in the river Jordan by your cousin when you were in your 30s. That’s all I’m saying. 🤷

Catholics believe that God’s salvation is a free gift, and one cannot do anything to “earn” this gift–and this is demonstrated quite clearly in the practice of infant baptisms. For how much more free is it than to an infant, who has done nothing at all to “earn” this gift of God’s grace! 👍

Hi, Leslie,

I don’t want to sound silly on this… but, are you playing “20 questions”? At this point I am confused as to what it is you are trying to say. At first I thought that you were saying that water baptism is symbolic. But, now, I am not sure.

So, for my benefit - and, anyone else out there who has not caught on … please explain what it is you want to say.

Thanks and God bless,
I am sure that I explained it somewhere, but these do not run in order and sometimes it confuses me, so join the club…As simplistically as I can…Water baptism is the outward sign that you have accepted Christ as you r personal saviour. Jesus was baptised so we follow His example and likewise do the same. If you search this a little you will probably find a much longer answer that goes in more detail. If you don’t find it, I will be glad to rewrite it for you. have a good day…I really don’t want anything to sound like 20 questions.
