Where are the Bible verses to back up baby sprinkling?

Sorry that your feathers seem ruffled:rolleyes: But everyday with God is a great feeling and I don’t have to go swimming.So what does it hurt if someone wants to get baptized.s hurting you or what?🤷
If you’re a Catholic, and know better, you’re insulting not only the Church, but the Holy Spirit. You believe He didn’t do a good enough job the first time around.
 
I’m not a theologian, so I make no claim to authority in this.

But I will say it has long seemed to me there is a fundamental difference between the way some (but not all) protestants see baptism and the way Catholics (and some protestants) do. In Catholicism, baptism is fundamentally an act of God; a gift from him, which he has, through the Incarnation, empowered humans (other than the subject) to impart. But it’s not a free ticket to heaven by any means, regardless of the age of the one baptized.

Among some protestants, it is fundamentally an act of “my own”. I utilize the baptism as a sort of adjunct to my commitment to God, but requiring the latter. It is therefore an act of man; specifically of the subject. As one being baptized, then, I am “binding God” through my act of will in “accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior” or a similar formulation, and signify that with baptism. And, with some protestant sects, it’s quite a rigid bond. Those, for example, who believe in “once saved always saved” have pretty well, in their minds, tied God’s hands.

At risk of being shot for this, I have long thought “forcing God” to do anything at all is fundamentally pagan in its nature. If I do “X”, then God must do “Y”, just as the Greeks used to bind, say, Apollo to do this or that or refrain from this or that, by burning oxen or reciting hecatombs.

Jesus, on the other hand, instructed us to obey the Father as He, Jesus, did, and to have faith and trust Him, but to also approach our salvation with “fear and trembling”. It’s a whole different thing. We have no guarantees. We can’t “bind God” by our own acts or by our intellectual assent or act of will. We are charged to love and obey and admit our wrongs and trust.

Humans are very, very subject to paganism. It’s part of our fallen nature. We want to rule God, not have Him rule us.

I am a Catholic, and it has nothing to do with thinking He didn’t do a good enough job the first time:shrug: I never felt the prescence of God, The Holy Spirit until I was rebaptized!1 Maybe you should give it don’t alwaysdo as you doa try and you would feel a little more love to people that don’t do as you do.👍

Yeah, I read that part where you said you’re a Catholic. You’re what one would call a cafeteria Catholic picking and choosing from the Church what you personally ‘feel’ is right for you. If the Church tells me re-baptizing someone who has already validly been Baptized is wrong, then it is wrong.

You seriously think I’m supposed to say “Well you go girl, God loves us all so it doesn’t matter”, when you’re blatantly going against Church Teachings. I’m going to call you out on it of course and show you just how wrong you are to say you’re a Catholic yet choose to believe it’s perfectly ok to re-baptize based on a feeling.

If you also told me you were Catholic but thought it was perfectly fine to only confessed to God without the presence of a Priest, I’m supposed to keep quiet cause you think it’s called judging? Did Paul Judge Peter when He believed He was wrong and told him straight to His face? You were wrong what you did if the Baptism was Valid and wrong to assume the Holy Spirit failed the first time around or was nowhere present during your first Baptism. You are likewise wrong again as a Catholic to preach that it was fine in your case and for any future cases where a Catholic re-baptizes him/herself.

This thread has progressed so rapidly that I missed post #33. Let me respond as follows:

Ah, your parents took you to school without your consent where you were taught to write and read and taught religion without your consent. I see. They violated your right to chose to be illiterate as well.

Poor Catholics of pre-Vatican 2 years. They were just there to be told what to do even with their own kids. I hope you are not deliberately insulting the intelligence of your parents just so you can defend your new-found faith.

Because in post #25 you were advocating an “element of choice” for children. You said, “I do not EVER remember any child actually deciding he/she did not WANT to become a Christian nor were they given that choice”. Any real choice has to include the choice of becoming anything – criminal, atheist etc – or it is a “guided choice” that you dislike.

Oh? Without her/his consent the child is just given “Christian education” and “forced” to attend church? What happened to the “element of choice”?

If you exclude atheism, then you are not advocating “choice”. You are doing the same thing you are accusing the Catholic Church of doing.

Now, I have read all of your past posts - and, have do so with real interest…🙂 And, it seems to me that the best summary is something like this: “Don’t bother with the rules - if it feels good and God does not tell you NOT to do it - well… maybe. But, if it feels good and God tells you TO DO it - well, then do it!” Is that a fair summary?
:shrug:OOps made a boo-boo on my last post. What difference could it possibleably make if you decide that you want to have the experience of baptism that you and God has givenen you the feeling to do? Does this make you less of a Christian, or Catholic?🤷 We all have to make that decision to follow Christ or not, and if Baptism that we all need to make.all of us to makegives you the feeling of a fresh start whom are you bothering?I think this is a decision for you and God to make:)

17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.

I know, but since others were having issues with apparent differences between what you feel or believe with regards to the CC and what others feel or believe, I threw it out there to see where it would go:D

Thanks;) I think. I ile attendidon;t have any problems with the CC or I wouldn’t attend there. This is an experience I had wheolic n I wasn’t attending CC . went away from God and this is what I felt I had to do to be whole The web is supposed to be talking infant baptism and I was only explaining that yes indeed I was baptised as an infant but walked away from God and this is what I felt God wanted me to do. Never intended to start a mini war:shrug: Its too bad that we cannot accept othes feeling concerning our walk with God:shrug: God Bless

My guess is that you are on the CAF to learn more about your Catholic faith. We all find out things that we either did not know at all :eek: … or, did not know as well as we should :eek: ! That is the nice thing about growth and development in the Faith - we are moving closer to God.

From my reading of the previous posts, I really believe everyone wants to move closer to God. If we are going to claim to be Catholic, then we have to learn more about our Faith. In all honesty, re-baptism for the ‘feeling’ of the baptism is not consistent or in conformity with the teaching of the Catholic Church.

Any religious activity can generate a feeling (singing a new hymn, participating in a new devotion, preparing for the next litirgical season that will appear on the Chruch’s Calendar - but, believers can be deceived by the Devil - especially with feelings. The Devil has real - but limited - power. We do well to consult our local parish priest if we are motivated to do something because of the feelings we get from it. This is not to say the activity is wrong or bad - it is just that people are very easily deceived by the Devil - especially, if they do not ask others who are more knowledgeable in the Faith.

Don’t become discouraged.

Exactly. The Church has spoken on this matter. Tweety refuses to listen. I wouldn’t go so far as giving up on her just yet though. Perhaps one day she’ll come around to realize just how wrong she was in saying that re-baptizing is not against the Will of God, The Holy Spirit.

      Numerous passages in the New Testament reveal that whole households were baptized (one after midnight); it is likely that these households included children below the age of reason.
  5. Historical evidence shows that the early Church practiced infant baptism.

Then not only do you disbelieve the Church was wrong about re-baptizing, you also believe the Church doesn’t have the right to tell a Christian what He should or should not do. Interesting. Why are you even Catholic. It’s obviously not the Ground and Pillar of Truth in your eyes.
