I thought of another reason for the anti-family vibe: corporate world-ism. It demands that we pay it respect first, leaving our family second. We are all brainwashed to do this as we are overeducated and are fighting each other to “get a step up” from our neighbor financially/etc. We think of ourself first and others last, even though no one comes out to say it.
This destroys the family, because family is self-less giving.
Also it destroys attachment to Catholic values.
Another thing is commercialism-- mass-marketed stuff all over the internet/stores/etc. Materialism. We value our iPads more than having another baby/etc. We forget how to live in poverty so that we can be happy. This destroys the family, which requires sacrifice of luxuries (at least, for most of us)!
Women in the working world is another one, which, I hesitate to say as it’s probably going to get grief, but, who cares. Two people working meaning they are essentially competing against each other in their own home, up the ladder. Money becomes more of a hot-topic. This destroys the family, because marriage becomes about making money and advancing, not about building a family. Also, roles get confused. Women learn to want more from their marriage, or in other words, they begin disrespecting the man as head of household. Because we were in school and never learned how. Also, women as workers become like men- dealing with money, bargaining, making business deals, etc. The marriage also has this quality now.
I am a working person, this is why I see this trait. No it’s not bad in all marriages, I think though it can be a factor in why people are unhappy in marriage.
Also, one more thought-- we dated so much and held off marriage that now it seems a bit expendable. We could just keep dating, or divorce and remarry. No one in society seems to care.
Maybe this is blunt… I guess, I have great sadness about so many divorces.
I have been thinking for a while myself, why this is the case.
