Where is Catholicism in the Bible?

Let’s see, where DID Catholics get the word Pope from in the Bible. As mentioned in an earlier post, Pope stands for Father, or as the Italians lovingly call him, Il Papa (I love that name!!!).

We are all familiar with Matthew 16, but look at Isaiah 22 to see the parallel.

*On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open.

*So what do you have here? God has defined an office (give over to him your authority). God has called him a father (the Church is the new Jerusalem). God gives him the keys to the house of David (keys to the Kingdom). God gives him the power to bind and loose.

Wow, that sounds suspiciously like God is using Hilkiah as a Type for the Papacy!!!

Careful, Allan … if you say anything “contrary” here … they ban you. i speak from experience.

Just nod your head and agree to everything they say.
I don’t see it anywhere. And if it’s not in the bible, its false doctrine.

Allan1972’s profile says he is “undecided” on his religion. Let’s hope so, and that he’s not just a touch n go troller.
He’s got 1 post & this is it, so far.
I don’t see it anywhere. And if it’s not in the bible, its false doctrine. In the Bible, there is no mention of Pope, Bishop, or Mass, or most of things that Catholics talk about. Who was greater? Jesus or Peter. Who’s greater Jesus or the Pope? Who’s greater Jesus or Mary? Even Paul said for people to stop following Peter, Paul, or John, but to follow Jesus. Jesus didn’t say anything about Peter being the foundation of the Catholic Church, but the rock of God’s Church. I challenge Catholics to think about why they believe what they believe and try to back it up with the King James Version of the Bible. Everything else is just false doctrine or heresy.
Sounds pretty decided to me. More’s the pity.

For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me. - 1 Corinthians 4:15-16 KJV

Pax Vobiscum
Omigosh! All this time the Catholic Church has been telling me to follow Jesus, and the BIBLE says I’m supposed to be following Paul???

Man! I’ve really been misguided!

Allan, b’luved. Welcome to CAF.

Enjoy the adventure of learning what Catholics REALLY believe. The best part is about how we got the Bible in the first place.

I hope people keep their shirts on. Sometimes people get heated when someone takes pot shots at our mother: Holy Mother Church!

A new person to CAF can pose a perfectly innocent challenge, but even a well-intentioned question, if it’s something we have encountered a gazillion times (like the stuff in your OP) as ignorant foaming-at-the-mouth anti-Catholic drivel, it tends to get answered dismissively or even with hostility.

Godspeed, my brother in Christ.

The you must not read Greek.
Acts 9:31 “the church throughout all” -ekklesia katholos
In the Bible, there is no mention of Pope,
Matthew 16:18 & John 21:15-17
As in “overseers”
All the last super passages and John 6:35-69, 1st Corinthians 10:16-17 and 11:23-30
or most of things that Catholics talk about.
Yeah right…I’ve already proved you dead wrong
Who was greater? Jesus or Peter
.Jesus of course, but who gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven?
Who’s greater Jesus or the Pope?
Jesus of course and that’s what the Pope says too. Your own pastor and his deacons and elders are their own little Pope, bishops and I dare you to contest their leadership. They are only men…how do you know they aren’t teaching you errors?
Who’s greater Jesus or Mary?
Jesus of course but what was Mary’s message in John 2:5? It the very same message today.
Even Paul said for people to stop following Peter, Paul, or John, but to follow Jesus.
That’s not exactly what he said. Look at 1st Corinthians 1:12. You appear to be of that last bunch…
Jesus didn’t say anything about Peter being the foundation of the Catholic Church, but the rock of God’s Church.
Well, they say that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. The only problem is that the Catholic Church is the original full gospel New Testament church
I challenge Catholics to think about why they believe what they believe and try to back it up with the King James Version of the Bible.
No thanks, I’ll only do that if you use a copy of the edition that came out in 1611. The one that still had all the books in it. I prefer the Doauy-Rheims Bible which came out in 1609. Two years before the KJV. Same era English, just much better translation…and it has all 73 books like it’s supposed to.
Everything else is just false doctrine or heresy.
Yep, I agree.
Sola Scriptura
Sola Fide
The Rapture
OSAS
A “symbolic” communion
Literalist instead of literal interpretations of the Word of God
I could go on and on, but why bother? If you want to know you’ll show up with a more charitable and teachable heart. If not…well at least the lurkers heard the truth where you chose a post and run.
Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

I would like to hear some comments from the OP to all the posts but it looks like he might be another hit and run poster.

Welcome Allan! 👋

If I may be so rude as to answer your question with another question - is there any genuine support either in the Bible or outside of it for your opinion that the KJV is somehow THE Bible to use? Or indeed that you should be using only the one translation in the first place?

I for one am seriously interested in the Word of God, since ‘ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ’ as our good Catholic friend St Jerome put it.
This being the case, I actually have a*** number ***of translations, Catholic and non-Catholic, with the KJV being of course among them.

I do what serious scripture scholars do - check the different translations against each other to better arrive at the truth of each passage. And if I knew any Greek Latin or Hebrew I’d durn well be looking at the Bible in those languages too! As it is I rely on scholars of different persuasions who ARE knowledgeable in those languages to give me pointers as to what is in there and what it amounts to.

Welcom Allan. I hope you decide to come back - from your one post it sounds like you have a very strong faith in Christ, and I think you’ll find out moderators here are very welcoming to non-Catholics on this forum. It’s an excellent place to talk about all the issues you’ve raised. You won’t find such open forums non-Catholic sites to the best of my knowledge. So this is the place to be if you’re really interested in answers to your questions.

Would you mind giving us some background on your faith - do you belong to a particular denomination, for example. Often it helps to know the tradition a person comes from.

Allan

Where is Protestantism mentioned in the Bible? If it isn’t mentioned in the Bible, it’s not true.

Right?

I don’t see it anywhere.
Strange, we see it everywhere. And we’ve been seeing it everywhere for 2000 years. Hmm…
And if it’s not in the bible, its false doctrine.
Umm, prove that. Show us those words in the bible.
I challenge Catholics to think about why they believe what they believe and try to back it up with the King James Version of the Bible. Everything else is just false doctrine or heresy.
Does that mean that non-English speaking people cannot be true Christians, since they can’t read the KJV?

And would that be the KJV with or without the Deuterocanonical books? 🙂

The word Trinity is not in the Bible. Do you believe in the Trinity?
This question is enough to send Allan back to reality 🙂
It is weird that there are many non-Catholics, like Allan, keep saying the same thing without realizing they too believe in the Trinity.

The word Bible nor sola scirptura appear in the Bible.

And, exactly where did the Bible come from?

In the bible there’s no mention of the word bible, Trinity, once saved always saved etc.

Lol. Another brave anti-Catholic sniper takes on the Whore of Babylon in a daring anonymous attack.

Just another drive-by http://bestsmileys.com/shooting1/15.gif heretic trying to justify his own existance and trying to plug the gap of 1500 years of absence from Christianity. Nice try.

By the way, the Catholic Church gave the world the canon and the Gospels. King James version is a watered down/sawed-off version of that.

The only false doctrines are OSAS and the 5 solas.

Why jump to “label” the OP as a “Drive-by”?

Allan posted his question at 10:12 pm on Jan 10, 2007
Allan last activity was at 10:42 pm on Jan 10, 2007

The OP was only on for 20 minutes… and hasn’t been back: Maybe the OP is working; maybe the OP is “thinking” about the questions and things that posters posted between 10:12 and 10:42 pm on Jan 10. (after all that was just over 12 hours ago i.e. 1/2 a day)

Only the first 8 posting of this thread were posted during the time frame the OP was here. (Between 10:12-10:42 pm on Jan 10) Maybe Allan took post number 2’s advice and searched the forum… Do you know what the OP did for the 20 minutes they were here?

I don’t think the OP can help that there has been 27 postings since the time they left the forums last night. Maybe, the OP should be given a chance to answer and review the things being said, before they get label as a “Drive-by”.

Let’s give the man time to respond. He just posted this yesterday.

Answer the allegations and not the person.
That’s Apologetics!

I wouldn’t hold my breath.
I still think it’s a touch-n-go and hoping I’m wrong.
His “undecided” on his religion is my only source of any hope at all.
But his singular dogmatic post does not seem to support an undecided posture.
