Let’s see, where DID Catholics get the word Pope from in the Bible. As mentioned in an earlier post, Pope stands for Father, or as the Italians lovingly call him, Il Papa (I love that name!!!).
We are all familiar with Matthew 16, but look at Isaiah 22 to see the parallel.
*On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open.
*So what do you have here? God has defined an office (give over to him your authority). God has called him a father (the Church is the new Jerusalem). God gives him the keys to the house of David (keys to the Kingdom). God gives him the power to bind and loose.
Wow, that sounds suspiciously like God is using Hilkiah as a Type for the Papacy!!!
