Allan,

Supposing someone cannot afford a Bible or cannot read (something that was quite common before the printing press, and a problem for some people even today) . What are they to do?

If it doesn’t conflict with the bible, then it might be all right.
Reading the Bible doesn’t make you save. The Bible is not easily read. If it you believe it is, you just contradicted Peter.

And count the forbearance of our Lord as salvation. And so also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, speaking of this, as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures. --2 Peter 3:15-16

In a way, Protestants, which you are (though you deny it) is a description that Peter describe in his letter.

Good. And further, what were the Christians of the first 300 years of Christianity believing since there was no New Testament?

Where is the list of essentials and non-essentials in the Bible? That passage says Scriputure is useful or profitable NOT sufficient.
Where did you get the word not sufficient from the Bible?

A hockey helmet makes a hockey player fully equipped, but does that mean that all he needs to wear on the ice is a helmet? No skates, no pads…NO CUP??? Again I repeat, NO CUP??? (If anyone thinks that it does, next time you’re up in Chitown I’ll find some open ice time to test that theory out).

Besides, what scripture was out there when Paul wrote to Timothy? The OT. So, then, we should only rely on the OT?
souds like you are suggesting that Jesus waisted his time by coming to this world since the gospels shouldn’t have been written.

Allan, what Catholic sources are you using for reference? Name the book and author.

That is not what he said. You misinterpret his remarks…

I’ll let him speak for himself.

Allan, here is something from the KJV. From John 21:25, " And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." Not everything is in the Bible. The apostle John says so.
The scipture talks about what Jesus did, but Catholics are suggesting that people read and believe doctrine about and from other men.

No. The Catholic Church teaches Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Church.

Sacred Scripture and Tradition are the Word of God. In the Mass, Catholics hear the Word of God in the Homilies from the OT and NT.

Sounds more like you are misinterpreting what the man said.

Do you even know when the earliest Gospels where written? What was the first New Testament book to be written? Do you know?

Allan;

Do you believe that Jesus was reading out of the New Testament when He was giving the Sermon on the Mount, and telling the parables, etc.?

The “other men” that we get our Doctrines from are the Apostles of Jesus Christ and their successors.

Hi guys It is obvious this is all a wind-up. 😉

NO WAY is anyone that naive about Catholicism. 😛

We were had. 😛 😉

If we were not, save your breath and time. It is a complete waste of time arguing against fictitious nonsence 👍

What if it’s part of the same deposit of Tradition that we got the Bible out of, but just never got included in the Bible? (And obviously since Tradition can’t contradict Tradition, this also means that it doesn’t contradict the correct interpretation of the Scriptures, either.)

Amongst the 33,000 Protestant denominations, it is obvious there are some who do not believe in the Apostles right to exercise the authority given them by Christ.

They see it as apostacy. They see the Apostles as having erred and the err to have continued to this day through their appointed successors.

They think that everything Christ said and did, is in the Bible.

They clearly have no idea how they came to possess a bible. They do not believe that ‘the Bible’ is actually a Catholic construct.

They have not the foggiest clue or idea. Jesus said ‘do not throw your pearls before swine’…

The bible did say that she would be called blessed but it wasn’t a commandment. it was a prophecy.
And we are the fufillment of that prophesy 👍 We are all the generattions that call her Blessed 😃
From whay I’ve seen on television, a hail mary is a hand motion that is repeated that is in the design of a cross. Mary was not crucified on the cross. Jesus was.
You are confusing the "Hail Mary’ with the “Sign of The Cross”

The design of the Cross is made while saying "In the Name of the Father (touch forehead), **and of the Son **(touch breast) **and of the Holy **(touch shoulder) Spirit (touch other sholder) "

We have the bibles truth. We uphold and defend the Truth.
we have the fullness of the truth.

If you cant onestly trace you church all the way back to Jesus
how can your church claim to be the true church
I guess I should’ve said this earlier. When God refers to the Church, he is talking about anyone who believes in him. A spiritual church.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whosoever believes in him shall have everlasting life.” John 3:16
You are thinking in terms of a denomination. It is possible that many people from different denominations are all part of the Church. I’ve been to many different churches before and not all people in every church are the same. In every church their are alwasy people who are decievers or who are true christians. There may be some baptists who are saved but some who are not. There may be some Church of God members who are saved and some that are not.

Oh, have you ripped the book of ACTS out of your Bible. It talks about what men such as Paul, Barnabas, Phillp and Peter said and did.

And then there are the Pauline Epistles, which is all about what Paul had to say to other men, such as Titus and Timothy
😉 😛

Brendan, you are wasting your time trying to explain. If the evidence of over a billion Catholics is worth less than a misunderstanding from ‘telly’ then it is unlikely that you will convince otherwise.

It is a shame that every religion has something to say about God. He does keep His wisdom exclusivly to Christianity. But, ‘if it is not in the bible’ then ‘they are in error’ or so they would say. To insult other religions without knowing anything about them is the very fanaticism 'the war on terror ’ is tryng to resolve.

You cannot engage using intelligent arguement against ill-informed, bigotted fanatics. Whatever you say, they will disagree with, no matter how absurd their arguements, they will continue to argue. That is the meaning of Protestant: to Protest 😛

The Catholic Church gave us the Bible in the Council of Rome (382 A.D), Council of Hippo (392 AD), and Council of Carthage 396 A.D). The Bible which contain both OT and NT.

Before that, there was no list or table of context of the Bible. There were many books at the time that were used like Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Judas, these books were not added in the Canon of Scripture.

Historical records show that the original Church is Catholic. St. Ignatius of Antioch called Jesus Christ’s Church Catholic by stating the following in the year 107-110 A.D.

**You must all follow the lead of the bishop, as Jesus Christ followed that of the Father; follow the presbytery as you would the Apostles; reverence the deacons as you would God’s commandment. Let no one do anything touching the Church, apart from the bishop. Let that celebration of the Eucharist be considered valid which is held under the bishop or anyone to whom he has committed it. Where the bishop appears, there let the people be, just as where Jesus Christ **is, there is the Catholic Church. It is not permitted without authorization from the bishop either to baptize or to hold an agape; but whatever he approves is also pleasing to God. Thus everything you do will be proof against danger and valid.
“It is not permitted without authorization from the bishop either to baptize or to hold an agape. St. Ignatius”
Ignatius preaches in opposition to Jesus because Jesus said that anyone who does miracles in his name or is not against him is a Christian.
“38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. 39But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. 40For he that is not against us is on our part.” Mark 9:38
