Matt if you get tired of dealing with Guan jst ignoree im and do as I do don’t answer his insuts which he freely gives.
It is not an insult to point out that a certain way of believing is not consistent with the Teachings of the Church. Unless you think it is an insult to be a Protestant! Each person is on their own faith journey, and most people walk according to the light of their conscience. A few posts above, you posted that you believe in the bible 100%. what you are saying is that you believe what you understand the bible is saying. In the places where your personal belief differs from the Catholic Teaching, your faith is not Catholic in character. This is not an insult, but an observation.

It is not an insult either to ask a person why they wish to call themselves Catholic when they reject the Catholic faith.

Nor is it an intended to be insulting to point out that it is disingenuous for a person to claim to be Catholic while rejecting the Teachings of the Church. I am just tickled pink that you are not engaging in any such disingenuous behavior. 😉

Well, joe370, in answer to your original question, after reading more than 40 pages of posts, the answer seems to be either…
  1. What we know today as the “Roman Catholic Church” and those in communion with it
-or-
  1. Anywhere you want it to be
I tend to lean towards #1. 😉

David

Where does it say that you must believe in apostolic succession to be saved?

What Christians believe is necessary for salvation:

2 Timothy 3
15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Romans 1
16I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.

Romans 10
9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.” 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Ephesians 1
13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

1 Peter 1
8Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 9for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

John 3
5Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

John 3
16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Mark 16
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

Matthew 10
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.”

John 14
6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

2 Corinthians 7
10Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

2 John 1
9Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
these are too complicated we bettter have our lawyers rewrite them.

And tweety I for one will not call you on that one. I agree with you. To be Christian (Catholic) is to believe and accept Jesus CHrist as your personal lord and Savior.

That is what unites us all in Christ. That is what makes us one with him.😃
hey what about me? I Got Jesus!👍

yes, i quite understand that. the pope says they cannot be called heretics, then the pope calls for a new evangelization. i think they go together.

but we are not arguing about who believes in Christ or not. we all believe in Christ. what we are doing is having a discussion on the Church. is the Church that Christ found important in today’s world? or it doesnt matter what church you belong to? that is what the argument seem to be all about.
but if the pope says that we are followers of Christ (Christians) how can you say otherwise?

you mean everyone who preachs Christ? everyone who condemns the CC and preaches against the CC? so they keep people away from teh Church? are these all Christ’s Church? the ones who says to the people that the CC is the whore of Babylon? they all preach Christ. they call themselves christians, dont they?

how is your logic that the Church is all Christians?

you should hear father Corapi on this one.

just tell me how is the HS who these so called christians says they have through the same Spirit can call the CC found by Christ whore of babylon? do you think they have the HS of God? can God call His Church whore of Babylon?

oh yes, Jesus said that a Kingdom divided is a Kingdom destroyed. can God fight against His own Kingdom? not according to Jesus.
there was a time when protestants and Catholics were killing each other, that has evolved to where we often work together. We often see things in the old testament that foreshadow later events, at times the jews were scattered and regathered. Just thinking out loud.🤷

hey what about me? I Got Jesus!👍
You are right MtRd, But here is a place we all need to get. Rather we are Catholic, Protestatant etc. We all accept Jesus and we all agree there is only one Jesus, So now that we agree with that next comes ONE TEACHING.

Now we have to get on the same page with Apostolic Authority. If we can come together on that we pretty much can bring us all together in one Truth.

When people split away from the original Church founded by Christ on the teachings of the Apostles all hell broke loose, The Holy Spirit did not split the CC from true teaching;s Man did. And that is what I think Joe is trying to show us.

If he can show that at one time everyone who belonged to the Christian Church, aka Catholic Church had ONE TEACHING, the SAME TEACHING. Thats what we are all here trying in our own unique way, by Gods Grace to show everyone. We want to be a family again. One family. Its not we are right and others are wrong. Its there is only one truth and it belongs to all of us. Not only some of us. God wants us all together.

You are right MYRD and Jesus didn’t want that. It is unacceptable. Jesus loves the Jews, always has always will. Just like he loves us. And there is no such thing in God eyes of Protestants and Catholics killing eachother. In Gods eyes we are all his Children killing eachother, And still are.

May God richly bless your leaning Poco! Just remember that the Catholic Church is not “Roman”.😉

So you won’t correct one of your own but you are quick to correct us even when the comment was not directed at or for you. This seems pretty one way. I’ll tell you in bold red letters that you are wrong but I will not correct one of my own. Protect your own I see how you are.
Well, then – you didn’t read my post. I acknowledged that you may have gotten some bad information from other Catholics. My point is that they probably didn’t do it maliciously – it was probably just a mistake or bad catechesis.

What I’m saying to you is that if you’re going to attack the Catholic Church – DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

You’re a very angry person who tends to “shoot from the hip” instead of researching the things you’re spouting off about.

Calm down, take a deep breath, and open the Catechism if you want to find out what Christ’s pilgrim Church believes in. You may be surprised at how wrong you’ve been all these years.

In the presents of His disciples he was not loathed He was not rejected, Peter recognized who He was. and He got down on His knees before them and washed their feet! this was such a lowly task that a Jewish slave could not be made to do it. I cant see a vicar of this Jesus allowing himself to be carried on the backs of men. hopefuly this is no longer done now that he has the popemoble.
**The Pope washes the feet of 12 men every Holy Thursday, symbolizing what Christ did for the Apostles, as do Parish priests around the world. I had the privilege last year of having been one of those 12 men in my parish. One of his official titles is “The Servant of the Servants of Christ.

As for his transportation – yes – he has the Popemobile. But, as I indicated in my last post – the only reason there is any pomp and circumstance surrounding him is because of WHO he represents.
It’s respect - not worship.

it has to be the slipperiest doctrine:shrug: that soooooo much is pinned to.
I disagree. Jesus was no fool and knew that we are human beings. He would NEVER have left anarchy and chaos in his wake. He KNEW that as humans, we NEED leadership. Any Protestant church that denies this is not being honest because they ALL have leaders, elders, pastors, etc.

The big difference is that Jesus didn’t set those churches up – he only set up ONE Church and he made sure that this Church had to be free from doctrinal error. If he had left it up to chance and chaos – then the price he paid on the cross would have all been for nothing.

This is the reason why he told the Apostles that the Holy Spirit would guide the Church to ALL truth about the things that were coming. He didn’t say, “Some truth” or, “Most truth” – he said ALL truth.

And how did you get this? and what others are you taking about? The catholic church got it from christ and the holy spirit! What makes you above the church that christ founded!
Can you or anyone improve on the church christ founded??? It matters to me because you make your self your own authority thats way! You can disagree with church teachings all you want but it will always be your opinion! Since you have no authority what so ever.
The early church fathers would be a good starting point for you.
But you know something rev…You can lead a horse to water…

May god bless you and yours…

Matthew
You seem to be hung up on this. If you don’t accept me being ordained the so be it. I don’t need your approval nor do I owe you a explination and I will not discuss this anymore with you. God Bless

Hey rev… I’m not hung up on this. Here in the panhandle there is a baptist preacher that has stated that catholics are going to hell! I also have a very close friend who swallows other vile things this man has to say about the catholic church. I will ask this question of you which i have asked her… How can one have a personal relationship with christ when you reject the church he established? Interpret the bible for yourself and make yourself your own authority.
I have big problem with those who bash the true church. To disagree is one thing but to spread lies to those who do not know better makes me angry!
My the holy spirit be with and guide you always…

Because they don’t believe the church He established is the same one you do. Or they believe Christ needed to reform it so the gates did not prevail. 🤷 Is anger still one of the 7 deadly sins?

You state your catholic! What church did he have to reform? What church did he establish then?

Thank you, Guanophore!

Catholic, Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Eastern Orthodox, Latin rite, Byzantine rite, … it gets so confusing sometimes. Ah, the limitations of language and words trying to communicate thoughts and ideas!
