those Jews who continue to not believe in Jesus, and will suffer for plotting and killing our savior Jesus Christ.
As Catholics we believe that Jesus suffered and died for our sins. It is we through our sinfulness who bear responsiblity for driving the nails into His flesh.

And it was God who made you a sinful guy. So cheer up! Its not all your fault. 😃

What bothers me is that the dude had an agenda. He did not start writing to tell a story but to ā€œkill God.ā€ True, it is the inverse of Narnia, but still. Intent is important. If he had simply wanted to tell a story, and that story lead into this topic, so be it. To some, writing is an organic process that can lead into new areas.

There have been some Christians protest it. I think that that is a better thing. It seemed to take churches forever to catch on that Dan Brown’s baby was bad. THe movie to this seemed to garner the attention much faster, although I do not remember if the books got the publicity as being anti-Catholic back in the day or not.

And so the proper response is to say nothing at all?
This is not remotely what I am suggesting
And even with the megabucks the movie studios and bookstores are pouring into promoting the film and books, ignoring it will ensure that millions will not go to see the movie or be inspired to read the blatantly atheistic books?
Do you like knocking down strawmen? šŸ™‚

You’ve got your own little sphere of influence (family, friends), talk to them. Convince them not to see the movie or read the books and you will have made a far more positive impact than you would by joining a picket or protest.

Um, Yes. Your tendency for lust, greed & selfishness…thats written in your DNA. That is why for all have sinned. You cant help it, God made it your destiny to sin.
Everything that God made was ā€œgoodā€. Read the Book of Genesis. God is pure love. The evil entered through disobedience to God–when Adam and Eve fell to the temptations of the Devil–primarily through pride. Now we spend the remainder of our lives trying to fight against the passions. It is called spiritual warfare.

The fact is, you did not disobey god when your DNA was encoded with the desire for lust, greed, pride & selfishness. But I agree: lust, greed, pride, & selfishness can be good for you. These things are factors for man’s success.

You are funny. The passions are not ā€œencoded in the DNAā€. :ehh:

The passions are the result of being born into a fallen world. They are the poison arrows of the evil one.

And I did not say that they are good for you. But if you can fight them successfully, you will increase in virtues, and this is beneficial for the soul. Perhaps that is what you mean?

I didn’t realise these were encoded in your DNA. Does that mean I can swap ā€˜pride & selfishness’ for and extra pair of ā€˜lust & greed’?

Next you’ll be telling me there’s a gene for ā€˜homosexuality’, ā€˜paedophelia’ and ā€˜murder’!

I know prominent theologians researching, trying to identify and isolate a gene for ā€˜violent behaviour’ without the slightest thought about what that means!

Everyone wants to blame God for this and that. No ownership of responsibility anymore!

Go see the film, and use your brains! GOOD is not derived from ignorance of what is BAD, but by the knowledge of both and deciding on Good!

yes they are. some of these traits are even present in other mammals. like greed, dogs have it as well.

you believe that mary is immaculate, right? may i remind you, she was born into a fallen world. the daughter of sinful ancestors. point is, if you believe in the immaculate then its logical & possible for god to block the harmful codes in the dna. if god is pure love, he would have made everybody immaculate. christianity is full of contradictions, but i have derailed the thread already so this is my final comments on this matter. thanks. šŸ™‚

Hmmm? I have never seen the scientific evidence of the passions floating around in the DNA of mammals. LOL.

If you are asking if I believe that Our Lady was spared from original sin at conception, the answer is no.

You do not need to remind me, my friend. That is the Orthodox understanding.

Since you have assumed a belief upon me, your refutation of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is meaningless to me.

Yes. There has been a derail. Start a new thread if you wish. šŸ™‚

it won’t be #1 for long, and it didn’t make as much as they wanted it to make. I am guessing ā€œI am Legendā€ will be #1 this weekend and National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets will be #1 next week. It also has the family film ā€œAlvin and the Chipmunksā€ to compete with.
Cameron and I went to see Alvin and the Chipmunks the other night.

I might go to see I am Legend too with some friends here.

But Golden Compass…I’ve already explained that ending to them and explained (more specifically to Cameron in detail since Blake was not able to really sit down and listen attentively) that they kill God at the end of the series.

You should have seen the look on Cameron’s face. Blake kind of moved in an unusual way too-- which usually indicates that he’s not comfortable with what he’s hearing. 😦

No, we will not be going to see this movie or any of the sequals.

PS: My children already know that our sins, all of humankind’s sins, have killed God on the cross a long time ago-- so they don’t need to see some bizarre atheistic, gnostic twist of the Gospel message in the Golden Compass to teach them this message.

Our Bishop here in Birmingham did an article in the local Catholic paper asking us not to see it and explaining why.
