Where to buy modest women attire?

Altar’d State has some nice modest clothing, but there aren’t stores everywhere. You can shop online though.

Might sound corney, but my granny taught me a little rhyme for modest clothing choices, it goes…
“Reach up and over to touch your toes,
Look in mirror to see what shows,
If so, hop in room and change your clothes”
Lol, :P, plus for neck lines, if my scapular shows, then I try to make a different choice.

Demicamis. They’re basically like tank tops, but only cover the top half of your chest. Some tops sold as bralettes or bandeaus can serve well. They can be a lifesaver for certain of us.

@irishcolleen45, what kind of modesty problems are you finding?

Coldwater Creek closed maybe 3 years ago.
Snif… Mom loved it and I would order online and Petite size fit perfectly on her.

Talbot’s and J Crew are two of my favorites - but only at sale time. I repeat…only…at…sale…time. 🙂 I like Banana Republic for blouses and cardigans, as well as Eddie Bauer.

Coldwater Creek is very much out of business. Their old backstock shows up from time to time at places like Marshall’s and TJMaxx. I worked for them for a little while about 14 years ago out of boredom as a second job - mostly because they had a very generous 40% employee discount. 🙂

I am not a dress person - I get my skirts (I like long ones) from consignment shops and Goodwill Blue. I can’t justify $40 for something I wear once a week because I wear a uniform to work every day. Don’t knock thrift stores or consignment shops. I buy most of my jeans from thrift stores and I get brand new skirts in consignment shops for ten bucks (I admit I’m a bit of a label snob in secondhand stores).

I sometimes wonder if this is just an extension of women’s clothes. I don’t know any woman, even secular ones who care little for modesty, who doesn’t struggle to find clothing that fits and looks good on her. Ask any group of women about finding dress pants and you’ll get a chorus of “ugh, don’t get me started!”

I think sometimes the “frumpy” look is just that the clothes aren’t proportioned right for the woman they’re on. It’s a lot easier with tight/stretchy clothing to just buy something that stretches to your body (I can totally see the appeal of yoga pants here). But I’d say a lot of frump can be cured with more attention to fit. And don’t forget the underpinnings!

I had a lot more frumpy outfits before realizing what parts of my body to attend to with regards to fit and how to dress in a way that happens to work with my shape. And no, you don’t have to downplay your figure to be modest.

I just got their catalog in the mail. Their pants are all too short for me. 😬

It would appear they’ve gone to direct sales only. I thought they had completely disappeared. Wow. I stand corrected.

I just went to Coldwater Creek online last night. I went to their outlet store a week before Easter and got a comfy knit modest dress.

Only the stores are closed. I still get emails from them I think they just moved to online only. Had a sale email from them this morning

I thought all their outlets were gone as well. Who knew? :woman_shrugging:t2:

I used to like their jeans - I have a very short inseam (even though I’m not short) and their jeans were always just the right length - not too short and not too long. Some designers think a petite inseam means you’re built differently - uh, no, I’m still a ten, just a short ten…they just cut the length, not the whole pant.

That’s probably why I’m not a dress fan. When you’re 5’6" with a 27.5" inseam, and all your height is in your torso, buying anything that’s one piece is a nightmare. (Luckily I apparently don’t look out of proportion. LOL)

Thank you, ladies! I will check online again…That is good news!

That is tall! And size 4 for pants which is the smallest there for pants are big for me.
Just checked and cannot believe CWC is back again!

Most of their pants have very short inseams. I need at least a 33 and they usually are 30 at most, once in a while 32.

The must sell out quickly or don’t offer them. When they had actual stores, they sold “Talls”.
🤔
