Orson Wells was good in The Stranger as the husband of Loretta Young who was hiding a big secret.

Hmmm…with the exception of Gollum, I seem to like my villains with a bit of flair.

Gollum, I thought, was just the right mix of loathsome and pathetic.

Not a psychopath just a good actor apparently. I haven’t seen the movie.

Ted Levine was also the police captain on the series Monk.

Also, Day Lewis can play a nut when he wants, so can Christian Bale, and De Niro.

I thought Cruise was scary in Collateral.

But of course, as a poster before said, Myers as Dr Evil, is the ultimate bad guy - he’d hold the world to ransom for a thousand dollars.
 
I’ll go with Lee Marvin with a couple of performances. As Vince Stone in the Big Heat 1953 and then as Liberty Valance in the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance 1962.

For actress…Louise Fletcher as Nurse Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 1975.
 
This probably comes straight from my current season of life, but I’ve been surprised at how well some of the Disney villains hold up. Some of the more recent ones are more foolish than creepy or evil, but Eleanor Audley’s Lady Tremaine (Cinderella) and Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty) still stand out.

Ones from my childhood include Jeremy Irons’s Scar in The Lion King and Pat Carroll’s Ursula in The Little Mermaid. A solid tradition of the best songs in Disney movies being the villain songs.😃
 
Add my vote for Alan Rickman in “Robin Hood”. And for Scar (Jeremy Irons) in " The Lion King"
But my favorite has to be John Travolta, with a honorable mention to Howie Long, in “Broken Arrow”.

David Prod portraying Darth Vadar in the Star war movies even though he wasn’t the voice in it. Forgot who did that!

Also, Harry Groener as the Mayor of Sunnydale in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He’s a chipper germaphobe, gracious host, faithful family man who abhors swearing. He also associates with demons and has his henchman do the dirty work while he’s preparing to change into a demon himself.

Robert Ryan played the most frightening implacable villians … and was a very underestimated actor in my opinion. Above he was the cussedly mean Master of Arms, John Claggart, aboard the English ship “Avenger”. Innocent, good natured seaman Billy Budd (Terrence Stamp) was “impressed” (taken) from his ship “The Rights of Man” to work under Claggart, a petty tyrant who took advantage of the British Navy’s wartime rules to bully his crew.

Ryan was also excellent in chilling my blood in Bad Day at Black Rock, and broke through as the bigoted suspect in Crossfire in 1947.

Life set Ryan up for his tough guy roles before he ever came to the silver screen. Born in hardscrabble Chicago he went on to be Dartmouth University’s heavyweight boxing championship in all his four years there 1928 - 1932; then worked as a stoker on a ship, a ranch hand in Montana. He had some small roles in Hollywood and on stage before signing a contract with the RKO Studio in 1944 - then joined the U.S. Marines where he became a drill instructor at Camp Pendleton, CA (between Orange and San Diego Counties on the West Coast).
