Yes, I understand he was one the gentlest people, and very loving with his family. 🙂
yes he was. I remember he was on a late show and did push ups or something to show what good shape he was in. he seemed to enjoy life, but really knew how to be evil!

Angela Lansbury in The Manchurian Candidate. She plays the mother of the brainwashed ex-soldier. Her performance was riveting.

Boris Karloff as John Gray in The Body Snatcher and as George Sims in Bedlam.

For women, it’s hard to beat Bette Davis in several films, including Baby Jane, The Little Foxes, and The Letter, to name a few.
Bette Davis for sure. I can’t remember the name of the movie, but it’s one in which she killed her rich twin sister and took her place, tried to live her life. Maybe someone can enlighten me about the title. I’ve seen the movie three or four times but always forget the title! Her name was “Mrs. DeLauder” or something similar. It’s a terrific movie!

I, too, love “The Letter.” Have the DVD.

Another really evil character is the daughter of Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce, played by Ann Blyth. This character took the concept of spoiled brat to new heights. The hilarious Carol Burnett spoof of this film on her comedy show was entitled Mildred Fierce.

And there is the villainous heroine Barbara Stanwyck in the film-noir classic, Double Indemnity.
as was the actress who played the daughter of the maid in Imitation of Life - the one with Lana Turner. I don’t know the name of the actress, but she was ashamed of her mother.

I know the one you are talking about. it also starred Glen Ford.
I can’t remember the name either.

I have a few mainstream ones…like Alan Rickman in Die Hard, Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs…Louise Fletcher in Cuckoo’s Nest…and Deniro in Cape Fear.…

But lemme go a bit obscure, and say…that Ray Liotta in Something Wild scares the jellybeans out of me (I just made that PG phrase up 'specially for the discerning and sensitive CAF readers 🙂 so much so, that I can’t not watch him.

Love your movie questions, MB!
.
I have not seen Something Wild. I like Ray Liotta and he was really good playing a bad cop in a movie with Kurt Russell and Madeline Stowe. My memory is not what it used to be so I can’t remember the title.

I thought Claude Rains was good in the movie Gaslight with Ingrid Bergman.

Vincent Price in The Pit and the Pendullum, Betty Davis is Baby Jane and Helen Carter as the witch in Harry Potter last movie.m and oh yes, the wicked witch in Wizard of Oz!

Dead Ringer was good. I am thinking of A Stolen Life. I don’t think Bette kills her sister, but assumes her identity after she dies in a boating accident or something like that in the movie I was thinking of.
I’ve not seen that one. I’ll have to watch it if I see it on TCM or some place else. Bette was such a terrific “bad girl.”

I saw the same show. IIRC, Jack Palance was doing one-handed push-ups, which was really impressive.

That was Charles Boyer in Gaslight, trying to drive his wife, played by Ingrid Bergman, insane. For sure, he was quite a villain in the film. Angela Lansbury played a small role, possibly her debut, and was superb.
