but he immediately gave me a warning not to insult the church or proselytise to my religion; neither of which I was doing.
You claimed the Church supports the New Testament because:
if the New Testament does point to the church, then no wonder the church approved of it, right? To justify their growing power, the gradual deification of their institute, their amassing of wealth?
So since it supports us in becoming rich and powerful, then we apparently will hold it up as God’s word. That’s insulting.
Then he gave an irrelevant (because I said only Christians call the Trinity monotheism) response about Allah not considering Christians to be monotheists, which reeked of bait.
Irrelevant to what? To whether or not the Quran is the word of God, it’s quite relevant, and it is a concern I have voiced on this forum before.

Is Muhammad in the Bible? Non-Catholic Religions
Here’s something I’ve never understood about the Quran. The Quran claims that we Christians/ Catholics worship Mary, and that we worship three gods. Except no where does Christianity claim to do either of those things. You will not find a single Catholic document or teaching that says we worship three gods. You will not find a single document or teaching that portrays Mary as a goddess. And yet the Quran, purported to be dictated directly to Muhammad by Allah, gets these two fundamental facts ab…
How is re-voicing my objection bait?
He’s obviously trying to push his weight.
Oh please. I’m doing no such thing.

Thom18:
You’re not answering the question of “why didn’t Allah know what Christians believe?”
Can I get suspended please?
I’m sure that if you ask, you’ll receive. Jesus said so Himself.
Okay, I’ll take the bait.

Allah knew what Christians believed, the Trinity isn’t monotheism. I answered your question, are you happy now?
How is it not monotheism? You’re going to have to do better than “3 doesn’t equal 1” and “please suspend me”.

As he asked for, SalamKhan was suspended.

@confusedcatholic1, you need to speak with a spiritual director about this. You put yourself in unnecessary spiritual danger by reading the Koran and need help to get back on track. Today’s the third Sunday of Advent, and we celebrate Christ’s birth in just over a week. Don’t let Islam take the joy of Christ away from you.

The Quran is derivative of the Bible. So if you are moved by it, go back to the original source material. If someone relies on a conspiracy theory to justify their assertions (the “prophet” Muhammad), then those assertions lose any further credibility because any further claims are reliant on a deception. A belief that the Resurrection is some elaborate hoax is something that Islam and atheists of various stripes have in common.

Read John chapter 1.

The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.

The Word is Christ, the Word is God.

Saint Bernard wrote of the Blessed Virgin Mary and how grieved she must have been to be given John in place of Christ at His crucifixion, “the Son of Zebedee replaces the Son of God, a mere man replaces God Himself” and “How could these words not pierce your heart, when the mere remembrance of them breaks ours, hearts of stone and iron though they are!”

If the Blessed Mother Mary’s heart was so broken at seeing her Son crucified, imagine how much greater sorrow that Jesus Himself feels that Islam replaces Him with Muhammad. In this case, a mere man most certainly replaces God Himself, and how much grief must He have that one of His sheep is being led astray by such.

how much greater sorrow that Jesus Himself feels that Islam replaces Him with Muhammad.
Indeed. In my dealings with Muslims though, debating articles of faith will get nowhere. Better to point out the factual differences between the historical characters: Jesus and Mohammed. Jesus was poor, peaceful, celibate and was killed for his preaching. The Apostles were also killed for their faith. Mohammed was wealthy, a warrior, had many wives and both he and his companions spread their faith by conquering the tribes around them. Facts are facts.

Just read the whole thread. Wow, really descended quickly.
But I’ll post back to the OP.
I understand what you are going through. I was raised one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, anti-trinitarians by far. I was an Arianist, i believed Jesus a creation. But what led me to Christianity in general, even though I as a JW agreed with Islam more than orthodox Christianity, was the words of Jesus himself in the Bible combined with the Resurrection of Jesus.
If Jesus was truly raised from the dead, which a Muslim must deny for Islam denies the Crucifixion, then everything Jesus said was true. Christianity stands or falls with the Resurrection of the Lord. I would say your best bet is to research the Resurrection and not just from an Islamic viewpoint. You say that you were a Christian, and that you were in RCIA, but now speak as if a Muslim. You already know that the Islamic view is a denial of Crucifixion which then denies the Resurrection, but I would recommend looking at the historical data about the resurrection and Crucifixion. It will show from even non-biblical sources that Jesus was crucified, and that all of His disciples proclaimed that He was raised and that they even saw Him raised. Then compare that with the Biblical sources and it all fits. If Jesus was raised from the dead, Islam is proven wrong, Christianity is correct, and the Catholic Church is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I would look into those two Doctrines.
Now on the point you said about Jesus not actually claiming Deity, I say this humbly and with love, that is plain out false. All of the I Am statements in Scripture are Jesus claiming Deity, Jesus calling himself the Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus saying we must honor Him just as we honor Father, and Jesus forgiving sins by His own authority. These are all claiming Deity. He doesn’t have to say “I am God.” For it to be true. And then we have the attributing of Deity throughout all of the New Testament to Jesus, and even in the Old Testament the Messiah was called God. Isaiah 9:6 says He would be called the Mighty God, Everlasting Father. Those are Divine titles.
So with all of this, I ask pray. Pray to God for the guidance. Pray to Jesus for the knowledge and heart. And research the Resurrection and Crucifixion from historical sources, not just Islamic sources.
If you need any help or want a private word away from all the debate, don’t be afraid to send me a message

God Bless and I will be praying for you!

OP, this has been quite a thread.

First off: My recommendation is to stop reading the Quran. If you’re serious about being a Catholic, stick to the Church and the Scripture she canonized. Learn it, love it and live it.

Second: I have read parts of the Quran and it’s a disturbing book that’s a self negating hodgepodge of Christian heresies dictated to Muhammad by a being that seized him in possession and forced him to recite.

Not a holy book at all IMHO.

What you’re experiencing in it speaking to you is the devil trying to draw you away from the Truth and the Truth is Jesus and His Gospel that the Church has been faithfully teaching for 2,000 years.

Accept no substitutes.
