- No. Methodists, at least, believe in the Wesley Quadrilateral: Scripture, Tradition, Experience, & Logic.
I’m not so sure this is a clear no. I’m not an expert on sola scriptura, however I have heard many times during discussions with a local Protestant minister, that we Catholics often don’t understand 100% accurately the concept of sola scriptura. Someone correct me if I am wrong, any Protestants in this thread?, however would it be fair to say that sola scriptura means that:
1 Beliefs need to be based on what God taught us in Scripture, with Scripture being the final litmus test
2 Beliefs cannot contradict Scripture
3 Reason and experience guide the interpretation of Scripture.
4 Tradition that is consistent with Scripture, or at least not contrary to Scripture, reason, and experience is acceptable.
Is that close? If so, that seems close, if not the same as Catholic doctrine. Therefore, it would not be a unique doctrine of Protestants, more like where the emphasis lies, and one’s view of where reason and experience lead to interpretation.
