Which Marian apparition do you find to be the most compelling?

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Quatlasupe in nahual the serpent crusher! She came to stop the slaughter that the Aztecs were doing she literally is the reason Mexico is Mexico,

Lourdes, for the following reasons:
  1. The message of penance and reparation for sinners is timeless.
  2. The Immaculate Conception was confirmed from above.
  3. There are dozens of authenticated miracles.
  4. St. Bernadette.
  5. Unlike some other apparitions, it has not led to any paranoid conspiracy theories, shoddy eschatology, or open slander and disrespect of the Church and the Popes.
 
I do love Lourdes…
But the Marian apparition that is my most favorite is a very old marian apparition…
Our Lady of Siluva in which our Blessed Mother appeared to an entire Calvinist Village in Siluva Lithuania after the Protestant Reformation to bring .

Apparently the Protestant Reformation decimated the church in Lithuania. Catholic Churches were destroyed and people abandoned their Catholic Faith. In the village of Siluva Lithuania they became Calvinist and that is how they stayed for nearly 100 years. In 1608 Our Blessed Mother appeared to small village children and then to the entire Calvinist Village…
“One summer day, in the year 1608, while a group of boys and girls played near the rock, they were startled when they heard weeping. When they turned around to see who was crying, they saw a beautiful woman holding a baby. She cried bitterly, but said nothing, and after a few moments suddenly disappeared. The children’s report brought the whole village to the scene. The ruling Calvinist pastor was among the 100,000 villagers who flocked to the site to see if the children were telling the truth. He rebuked the children for their superstitions, but as he was speaking, the weeping woman suddenly appeared again as everyone stood transfixed by the sight. The pastor demanded to know who she was and why she wept. She replied, “I am the Immaculate Conception, and I am weeping because my beloved Son is no longer worshipped as He has once been.” The people, moved by her words, returned to the Catholic Faith in a mass conversion, and Siluva became once more fervently Catholic. The 1608 apparition of Our Lady of Siluva was approved by the Catholic Church and is the first Eastern European apparition of Our Blessed Mother who came in an effort to bring her children back to the True Faith.”

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most compelling to me. It is the ONLY apparition that left behind her picture.

She left her picture also with St. Catherine in the miraculous medal in a vision but not on cloth. :slapfight:

How did she leave a picture with St. Catherine? An actual picture or a vision?

Our Lady of Guadalupe left an actual picture on Juan Diego’s tilma, not a vision.
 
For me it has always been Lourdes. St Bernadette is the epitome of humility.

I visited Lourdes and the first night during the candle procession of 20,000 people from the grotto to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, praying the Rosary and singing hymns in between each decade, was awesome. When the crowd began singing Ave Maria, it brought tears to my eyes like never before.

Now, I can’t keep a dry eye when I hear Ave Maria.

She left a picture in a vision which was transferred on to the miraculous medal.
And as far as I know, this was the only time Mary ever allowed someone to touch her.
St. Catherine actually put her hands into the hands of Mary. 🙂

OK, Fred, I could not find in the book or on websites which have the accounts of St Bernadette’s apparitions of the Blessed Mother, that she indeed kissed the Blessed Mother’s feet as was shown in the movie.

The movie “The Song of Bernadette,” has the gist of the apparitions, with apparently some added dramatic accounts, such as Bernadette kissing the Blessed Mother’s toes.

In the actual accounts, Bernadette kisses the ground, but she did this at the Blessed Mother’s request to kiss the ground as a sign of penance for sinners.

Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

I would give anything to have Our Lady appear to me, sit in a chair, and allow me to sit at Her feet while we have a two hour chat.

Besides, the Medal She left behind has never stopped being what it is called. Miraculous. 🙂
 
OLO Guadalupe gives us a self portrait of Mary as Heaven sees her. She leaves us with hard evidence which scientists can examine and determine that it can not be made with human hand.

The fact that it is over a couple hundred years old, and made with pigments not available back then, plus it is said that when magnified, the eye of the Virgin reflects an image of St. Juan Diego (not sure if this latter detail is true, but it would be pretty amazing if it is).

And it has not deteriorated while cloths made from similiar materials have not lasted nearly as long.
 
It’s a hard choice, for certain. But, I voted for Fatima.
  1. Specifically in regards to the October 13, 1917 event, atheist/communist reporters for the state run paper were there to report on what they were certain was a non-event. Instead, we have the actual newspaper print of these reporters describing the event.
  2. The local government officials kidnapped children in hopes to suppress the event. Imaging thugs demonstrating their fear of children like this.
  3. We have actual photos of the people observing the event.
  4. The atheist/communist government in Portugal was ultimately destroyed by people’s commitment to Christianity resulting from the miracle. Elections two years later installed people who reestablished connections with the Pope.
  5. Days of rain dried up in moments - a physical confirmation of the miracle - not just something people could see.
  6. The event was visible over 600 square miles. People unaware of the prediction still saw the dancing sun.
  7. Descriptions of the sun’s movement and activity seem consistent with a time lapse life of the entire sun. Solar physics was not understood at the time - so this seems to point to scientific knowledge unknown to people at the time.
  8. 70,000 to 100,000 people were present to witness a predicted event.
I have yet to hear even a remotely reasonable argument in opposition to Fatima. It does drive me crazy that it gets dismissed.

I do look forward to the 100 year anniversary coming up soon.
