Which of popular Christian musicians are Catholic?

Jaci Velasquez led worship at at a protestant church locally, so I doubt she is Catholic.

I would have to double check this, but I think Kathy Troccoli is Catholic.

Many assume Chris is RC because Matt Maher, who IS Catholic, wrote or co-wrote several of Tomlin’s biggest huts.

Rachael Lampa is, or rather she was, in that she left the music industry; she still is very much Catholic though. Rebecca and Jaci are not. Jaci is an Evangelical married to the lead singer of the Christian band Salvador.

Matt Maher and Audrey Assad are Catholic artists; besides their individual work, they both were guest artists on the last Jars of Clay album, The Shelter. Jars of Clay doesn’t have any Catholics, but two of the members were educated in a Jesuit-run school, so the openness and respect are there. Francesca Battistelli is a Catholic artist who won numerous Dove Awards. The video for “Beautiful, Beautiful” was filmed in a Catholic church.

Yes, she is.

The late Rich Mullins was in the process of becoming Catholic, before his untimely death. He was scheduled to be received into the Church, having gone through RCIA. Just listen to “A Liturgy, a Legacy, and a Ragamuffin Band.” Many of the songs are derived from the Catholic Mass, “Creed” being one of the most popular.

Finally, there is Stephen Delopoulis and John Philippidis of the recently re-united Burlap to Cashmere; they are Greek Orthodox, and therefore share many of the same beliefs.

Also, Ed Kowalczyk, lead singer of the multi-platinum band Live, is a Catholic revert. He has a new album out, and the new single from it is called “Grace”.
 
He doesn’t do Christian rock, but I’ve heard that Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver is a practicing Catholic
 
Jamie Thietten is Catholic.
Celine Dion and Enja were raised Catholic.
 
As others have said, Christ Tomlin definitely is NOT Catholic.

Matt Maher is Catholilc, probably one of the most well known Catholic singers. I saw him last year perform at the Fest in Wickliffe, Ohio, and it concluded with a Catholic Mass and he even helped do some of the hymns and such, it was really cool!

Another emerging Catholic is Audrey Assad, winner of Amazon.com 2010’s Christian album of the year. She’s actually a convert to our Catholic faith.

The Christian metal band Demon Hunter is mostly Catholic. Not sure how many members, but I have heard that “most” are indeed Catholics.
 
We actually sing a lot of Chris Tomlin’s and Matt Maher’s songs in my parish…For our 11:30 mass we actually have a little band, piano, guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, and sometimes flute. I starting recently going to this newer parish in our diocese at the beginning of advent. I loved it soo much with the modern music and the Priest, who’s homily’s really speak to you…I have been going there every week…

I know its generally not right to quote yourself but as an example recently iTunes put in the Christian section an album by Liz Wright which had a song about an old Egyptian sun god. Hence it drew more reviews then sales as people fought over the inclusion of the album there rather then under the jazz label.

I like Matt Maher 🙂 I love “Alive Again.” I think it’s one of the most powerful modern Christian songs I’ve ever heard. He actually did a concert at my old parish, but I didn’t get to go. I didn’t know he was Catholic until then. He’s great.

I didn’t know Taylor Swift was Catholic. That’s cool! I read somewhere online that she did a concert for some Catholic schoolkids? Funny, I’ve always thought, “That would be cool if she was Catholic,” about her, because she’s one of the few young stars that doesn’t act like an idiot or let fame go to her head. I hope she stays that way.

I’m going to push Gorecki again. You should get the 3rd Symphony and listen to it. It’s on iTunes or in music stores/online stores/Amazon. Gorecki is a devout Catholic, and the 3rd Symphony is inspired by real prayers. This work of art beat out Madonna when it first launched and reached second position on popular track charts in the UK. 🙂 If that’s not popular, albeit a bit old, I don’t know what is. 🙂

Taylor had the Song “Christmas must be something more”

the song was about christmas. she said that CHRISTMAS is not about superficial things, presents, gift, but on the Holiness of Christ and Jesus is its center… some of the lyrics are:

“Here’s to Jesus Christ who saved our Lives! Its something we all try to ignore
and put a wreath up on your door now, here’s something you should know that is for sure
Christmas must be something MORE” 🙂

Michael Card is possibly the deepest, most profund singer/songwriter they have and if HE got guff for associating with the “whore of Babylon” imagine how record labels and promotors treat young struggling catholic singers.

Are there any Catholic music radio stations online? I started listening to one of the local Christian music stations the other night after going through all our preset stations and finding that every song being played was either something I didn’t want to hear, or wasn’t entirely appropriate to have playing with kids in the car. The change was nice, but a few of the lyrics and some of the chat from the DJ’s weren’t entirely Catholic.

That’s cool. I haven’t heard a lot of her songs. Just the really popular ones that play a lot on the radio.

Really? I’m curious as to which station/city it was. The one here is not Catholic, more evangelical/non-denominational, but 100% squeaky clean and nothing overtly anti-Catholic.

It wasn’t anything explicitly anti-Catholic, but some comment that was a bit off. I think it was something along the lines of how “everyone” knows that Mary and Joseph had a normal marital relationship after Jesus was born.
