Which of popular Christian musicians are Catholic?

I did not know that Taylor Swift is Catholic either! I think that’s pretty cool, even though I’m generally not a big fan of her (current) songs. I don’t know, they’re just not to my taste. I liked her country songs a lot more.

I don’t listen to a lot of Christian music. I mean I like them and I love singing them in youth groups but they’re not something i listen to on a daily basis.

I’ve read somewhere that Shakira is Catholic and has met Pope John Paul II.
I mean, I like Shakira’s songs, especially her Spanish ones, but I guess she’s not what you’d call a Catholic model of a woman.
But you know what I’d like are Catholic edm (electronic dance music) artists. I know, it’s almost impossible to believe… but I think it can be done. Although it also seems kinda pointless since edm usually has little to no lyrics. lol.

That’s all I know, hahaha.

Honestly, I didn’t know that either!

However, if she is Catholic, then I am not exactly sure if she is practicing or not…🤷

One more thing: Mark Mallett is a terrific Catholic music artist!!! He did a retreat at a neighboring parish last fall and it was great. Check him out!! 🙂

sad to say chris tomlin isnt catholic…but his music is amazing…
other than matt maher , there arent any popular catholic singers or groups…but so long as the message is correct , does it matter …we sing songs from mercy me , chris tomlin etc and others …in the Spirit and Song book…it would be nice to have other catholics , but its the message thats important
 
This may have been mentioned on this thread, but Matt Maher wrote a song about transubstantiation–it’s so cool! It’s called The End and the Beginning.
 
Scott Weiland is Catholic. I went to a concert once, and he did the Sign of the Cross up on stage after the show was over, and even said once in an interview that he is a “Practicing Catholic” which made me buy a book on him, an autobiography, where he stated of a girlfriend of her being perfect, and one of the reasons they were so compatible was they were both practicing Catholics.

I haven’t bought any of his albums yet but I’ve been listening to him quite a bit on Spotify. A lot of his stuff is really great! I’m sure I’ll be getting at least one or two of his albums before long.
 
The legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, God rest his soul, was a Catholic. Even wrote a Mass which he and his quartet performed in Washington DC at the National Cathedral.

If you’ve ever heard the song, “Take Five”, that’s Dave Brubeck. A tremendous composer, player and bandleader who discovered the Church later in life. Some of us do that. :doh2: Better late than never, tho. 🙂
 
Spirit and Song does have many of the best Catholic artists, but my favorite is still Bob Rice (bob-rice.com), who plays at many of the Franciscan University youth conferences.

I’m about halfway through the song samples on that page and I really like a few of the songs. They’re upbeat and have a really similar sound to a couple non-Christian bands I like. Unfortunately, my wife hates those bands, so if I get some of Bob Rice’s music, I think it will cause some friction, ha ha. My daughters might like it, though.

I downloaded a couple of Sarah Hart’s albums last night, including This Winter’s Eve, which is fantastic. I ordered another CD after listening to the two I downloaded. I’m still trying to find something my wife will like, but that’s proving to be difficult.
 
Audrey Assad is one of my favorite Catholic musicians. She is a convert to the Catholic faith. Another favorite of mine is John Michael Talbot. Matt Maher is awesome, too.

Matt Maher is definitely Catholic. 👍 He’s been to the last few World Youth Day’s.

I too have been curious to know which popular musicians are Catholic.

Unfortunately, there is a wide distinction between identifying as Catholic and following the Church.

For instance, Lil Wayne identifies as Catholic.
 
There are 40,000 denominations (technically Catholics are non denominational). If you divide the number of "popular " Christian musicians, you are lucky to have anyone who represents your denomination.

The same question could be asked about any denomination and receive the same dismal looking answer.

How many popular musicians are Lutheran? Methodist? How Many are Salvationists?
