enough about political parties. Which political philosophy most closely expresses your beliefs and values?
Good, that would make you a paleo-conservative.Other. I am a catholic in everything I do including political philosophy.
I disagree. Neo-cons are similar to but not the same as traditional conservatives. There are moral and domestic political consequences when one says he/she is a neo-con. The term is not limited to forign affairs. Please note: Neoconservatism is a world view philosophy, not a domestic philosophy. you can be a liberal or a conservative when it has to do with domestic financial issues and be a neoconservative…
The differerences between conservative philosophy and neo-con philosophy are illustrated in our differences over WWI, Wilson, and Germany in another thread (i think the one about who won the debate). Please note: Neoconservatism is a world view philosophy, not a domestic philosophy. you can be a liberal or a conservative when it has to do with domestic financial issues and be a neoconservative. You can also be a social liberal or a social conservative an be a neoconservative.
Still, it is a world view, not a domestic issues view. The differerences between conservative philosophy and neo-con philosophy are illustrated in our differences over WWI, Wilson, and Germany in another thread (i think the one about who won the debate).
cheers,
Tom
Are you talking about the greed of the people on welfare who want to get paid when they don’t work…and want free medical care and free education…etc etc at the expence of the “oppresive rich man.”Neocon -
Worldview - See Pox Americana
Domestically - See Sophistry in the service of greed.

Woodrow Wilson was a Liberal not a Neoconservative: Teddy Roosevelt was a Neoconservative. A good definition can be found here:

Isolationist
The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in “America first.” For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.
Isolationists…
Historical isolationist: President Calvin Coolidge
- Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations
- Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements
- Believe the US should not act as a global cop
- Support trade practices that protect American workers
- Oppose liberal immigration
- Oppose American imperialism
- Desire to preserve what they see as America’s national identity and character
Modern isolationist: Author/Commentator Pat Buchanan

- Believe the US is morally bound to intervene in humanitarian crises
- Oppose American imperialism
- Support international law, alliances, and agreements
- Encourage US participation in the UN
- Believe US economic policies must help lift up the world’s poor
Modern liberal: President Jimmy Carter

Realist
Realists…
Historical realist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower
- Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision
- Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa
- Don’t want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations
- Believe strong alliances are important to US interests
- Weigh the political costs of foreign action
- Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest
Modern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell

I more or less agree with this sentiment…but libertarians tend to focus on privacy at the expense of morality/religion it seems to me.Paleoconservative-leaning libertarian with monarchist sympathies.
