White House shines rainbow colors to hail same-sex marriage ruling

On a Catholic website, I saw an article today titled, “One nation under pride.” It somehow seems appropriate, unfortunately.

I, too, found this a VERY poor idea on the part of The White House. This display is “spiking the football” right into the face of Christians who hold valid and deeply held and committed to beliefs regarding this issue. It is poking a finger into the eye of Americans who disagree with the SCOTUS decision and is akin to taunting. There is no attempt to unify a country. Quite the opposite. This added bit of “celebrating” was not needed–there were MANY other avenues for that.
I find it objectionable to do such an act; unfortunately, it has become a bit of a tradition. I don’t know if that makes it better but the “rainbow lighting” has happened in a number of states and in Canada too already.

I am not going to link to it but it has occurred and I’ll leave it at that.

I hope the wildness that is at least in some “pride” parades doesn’t become acceptable.

If gay marriage had not passed, would it be appropriate to light up the nation’s Capitol in pro traditional marriage colors (if there was such a thing)? 🤷

The hypocrisy is mind boggling. What is scary is that I don’t think the president could be this divisive on accident. I believe it is his intention.

If the country is so inclusive, why can’t it include a state like Texas that doesn’t want this new thing shoved down out throats?
Because the United States of America is not merely made up of those conservatives in TX or anywhere else. There will always be people on either side of things who will be unhappy about this SCOTUS ruling or that one, and about what are any number of civil laws of the land. There’s no other way around it that I can see unless people want to secede everytime there is a ruling or law they don’t like and form their own nations.

Which is exactly why lighting up the light White House in support of people on one side of an issue is insensitive to those on the other side…

Then you don’t understand Federalism or States’ Rights.

There should be community values available. You are saying a one size fits all rule. That really is not a good rationale.

That also opens the way to outrageous decisions like Dredd Scott.

Agree and the same thing that is being said about what the White House did has at least been said before in various states. At the least, in the states where the people voted on it, there may be some tiny rationale to celebrate it. I don’t see it that way with a controversial court decision. It would be like celebrating roe v. wade.

Wow, who knew the truth of morality could change like that? Or maybe we all just had it wrong all these millennia and finally figured it out.
Maybe. But who truly knows? It would lack humility imo for me to say that for all these millenia humans had things figured correctly or that even today it is finally figured out. My faith is that the most any mere human can do, no matter the millenia, is to seek understanding and some are more open to theirs evolving that others. Evolving certainly appears to be more scary for some than it is for others.

And if it were done to celebrate the end of abortion or traditional marriage I firmly believe there would be riots.

Evolving? In what manner?

I’ve disagreed with rulings too. We all probably have at one time or another. What I know is I find there are lots of arm chair legal scholars who because they disagree, believe they know more about federalism and states’ rights than the 5 majority SCOTUS justices who actually decided this case. I don’t know maybe those who think they do should try to get their names placed in nomination for the next opening.

As Satan and his minions celebrate this ruling, as Christians we know how the story ends; we’ve read the end of the book so to speak. We know who celebrates last. The Kingdom of God prevails!! This should give us hope.

And charity. I’ve been around this kind of liberal secularist mentality; I’ve lived this way. It’s about searching and escaping unhappiness. To be honest, it’s a rough, pointless life. We need to bear this in mind.

Yes, this would be like a Republican winning the election and putting up a Confederate flag. Would send me through the ceiling, even if I had voted for him.
Why are you using the Confederate flag for the Republicans? The democrats were the segregationists back in the day.

 Okay, I know that in light of the SCOTUS ruling itself, this is small potatoes, but it still makes me angry that taxpayer money and administrative time was spent on this display of lording it over the American people - imagine if, after Roe V. Wade, the president had made a big graphic display celebrating “abortion rights.” :banghead:
The color display was an act of power, defiance and disrespect more than it was an act of celebration.

Disneys magic kingdom was lit up as well which is even worse since they cater to little kids.
At least they are a private company.
They can say want they want.

Displaying such across a national monument is tantamount to state sanctioning the issue.
