Hello John Smith. I see this is your first post. I do not find that suspicious at all. All the best.

Two words, the Balkans

There has been conflicts in these region of the world and the people there are of similar ethnicity. How about the conflict between the UK and Ireland? The British and the Irish aren’t two different races.

Contrary to what you think, conflicts arise out of human faults and disagreement. Unless you think that race dictates the moral choices of individuals.

I have always used a simple understanding of nationalism. It is patriotism without the Golden Rule, or to put it another way, patriotism combined with exceptionalism (with one’s nation always being the exception.) Defining the term is important, as some may say the are a nationalist when they are patriotic, but still respectful of patriotism everywhere, or they are isolationist and want America to tend her own business only.

Love of our country unites us and must unite us above all divergences. It has nothing in common with a narrow nationalism or chauvinism, but springs from the law of the human heart. It is a measure of man’s nobility: a measure that has been put to the test many times during our difficult history.”

Nationalism is denounced by the Catholic Church. Being a Catholic and a nationalist is as inconsistent as being a Catholic and a Mason, communist, or pro-choicer.
Pope John Paul

What if CAF just became me and @Raxus saying “yes” and “no” to each other until the lights went off?

I think the OP has a good point. We are all aware of the one rather extreme (and candid) fellow who got banned. But there has been a creeping intolerance on this forum for the past few years. I see it on threads that touch on race, but also threads that deal with Judaism and Islam. Fortunately, I do not see that trend with Catholics in real life, but I do see it here.

Maybe it has to do with the parts of the forums that one frequents the most. I can’t say I’ve ever run into it, myself. Maybe y’all have. I am aware of one or two troll posters who were shut down PDQ by the mods. That’s about it.

I have noted the same thing. However, my opinion, and yours, might be a form of confirmation bias. So, let me just say that we all need to reflect on our own understand of the king of holy tolerance Jesus has called us to exercise.
