Who goes to hell?

Revelation 21:8 "But
  • the cowardly
  • and unbelieving
  • and the abominable
  • and murderers
  • and whoremongers
  • and sorcerers
  • and idolaters
  • and all liars
shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone
which is the second death"

unless of course they repent and believe in Christ

Was “separation” from God the original sin?

And if it was, was it to hell? As in lost forever?

Hell here meaning, eternal spiritual (death) separation from God due to death of our spirits.

Does “separation” then befall all of us when we come to the point of accountability?

Can we say then, that separation begun when we became aware of our accountability, same as having eaten of the tree of Good and evil?

If yes, then we have no choice in the matter, for when we do eat of the tree of Knowledge as Adam did, we became separated (spiritually dead).

So what is hell then if not a holding place for the spiritually death awaiting deliverance for something they themselves could not fix?

Was deliverance not forthcoming in Jesus?
1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; (holding place)

Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Here in this next verse we see what the gate of separation is: Psa 9:13 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, thou that liftest me up from the gates of death: (Hell you think?)

Jesus was not to be left in separation. (Hell) Psa 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Jesus’ resurrection opened up the gates of hell and heaven: Psa 107:16 For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.

Isa 38:10 I (Jesus) said in the cutting off of my days, I (Jesus) shall go to the gates of the grave: I (Jesus) am deprived of the residue of my years.
Isa 45:2 I (Jesus) will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I (Jesus) will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
Isa 60:11 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; (No more gates to devide) they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.

The forces of God hath produced the saving grace for mankind in Jesus to where, no longer is there gates (Tree of life) held from us. lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: …Gen 3:22

The word “lest” is now a reality in Jesus, and we have but to reach for Him.

Anybody can reach for Him while they are yet alive in the flesh and gain life’s spirit, which is eternal.

Hell is a fear tactic for many, for many may not be mature (Spiritually) enough to refrain, from within, from doing evil, thus continue to be separated (Dead) .

That is being in bondage to the original, ( hellish state) and not free, as in not born again spiritually to life eternal.

1Co 7:22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.

Are you free?

Blessings, AJ

There are two deaths. 1. physical 2. Spiritual.
The first and second were until Jesus, permanent.

But after Jesus, the second death (Spiritual) does not apply for those who reach out to Him while yet alive in the flesh.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Was there a law… of sin and death? Question is…what sin and what death?

We all continue to die physically regardless of what we believe, yet there was this law that bound us all to death?

So Paul says Jesus hath made us free from that law, which is the second death.

Hello everyone. Boy Hell is a big controversial subject huh…some people say we are living in hell now on this Planet, with all the wars, evil, child molesters etc etc.

I hate the thought that a loving God who Created the human race would torture those who rejected His offer of Salvation, for eternity, for ever and ever??

It is a big spaghetti like subject, so many ideas, even interpretation of Scriptural verses on Hell and Hellfire. Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by God’s Fire, eternal fire, do you think it was an example of Hell…? If so it did not burn forever and ever huh?? The Bible actually says it was an example of hellfire…?

So, also when the Bible talks of forever and ever; slaves were taken to the doorpost and had their ear pierced and then served forever and ever? I am speaking off the cuff you understand. But what I am trying to say is that when forever and ever is tied to men or women it is really as long as the person lives…?

Only when concerning God who is only Immortal and only He lives forever and ever.
So, maybe His Eternal Fire or Hellfire is eternal but human beings can only burn as long as there is anything to burn…?? The Punishment is eternal, never to live again, but burning forever and ever…I cannot see a loving God doing that…

Is it possible that it is an invention of Lucifer the great Rebel?? To give God a bad name??
Sounds to me to be more like a devilish idea than a Loving Creator God’s idea huh??

Bye the way, Lucifer knows the Bible better than we do huh? He has had a long time to study it and reinterpret it in his image…?? Michael.

Good points brother2.
Goes to show the different levels of understanding.

Some are here, some are there and most of us, well, have allot to learn.

Talking about hellfire.

God’s love is one humongous furnace that will burn anything and everything up, or better yet, consumes everything.

So if fire and love are synonymous, then are sins are the object of His consummation.

Deu 4:24 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

Let’s look at this consuming fire at present day.

If we sin having conscience towards God, He will cause us to “burn” with conviction of spirit until we Repent.
Ecc 4:6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.

The Holy Spirit burns in us when we are His to both give us comfort and to discomfort us to walk straight with Him.

Look, had Jesus not have the sins of the whole world on His shoulders, to where, if by measure, made Him the king of sin, and yet, the consuming love of God not leave Him in hell but resurrected Him to life?

What sin then can we have that would prevent God’s consuming love from forgiving us, in comparison to that of Christs?

Hence the lake of fire, to where all go to be loved cleansed by God, as He is:Heb 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

What there is to fear, rather, is not hell, but to displease God, for He will correct us!

But again, fear is driven by the motive of punishment, where as respect, is driven by love.

The latter, is what God desires, that we offer ourselves to Him in love.

The Catechism asserts that “the Church prays that no one should be lost. . . . If it is true that no one can save himself, it is also true that God ‘desires all men to be saved’ (1 Tim. 2:4) and that for God ‘all things are possible’ (Matt. 19:26).”

Is it not a logical and a psychological impossibility for one to pray for something for which one has antecedently no hope? If the Church prays no one goes (or stays) in hell, we would be cognitively dissonant not to hope for and believe (faith) in the very possibility for which we pray. “Lex orandi, lex credendi.”

Peace,

If we create a God in our own Image and Likeness he would be FAR TOO NICE to allow anyone to go to hell . But if we remember that sin is so offensive to God that He found it necessary to send His Only Son to die a cruel painful death to set us free from sin and its consequences Hell ] then, perhaps we might believe Jesus when He said “Enter by the narrow gate , for the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to Life and those who find it are few.” Matt.7: 13,14 God has done everything possible to give us salvation. If anyone ends up in hell it will be his own fault and not God’s…

Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ.

God new mankind would fail!

After all, is not free will being just like God?

That alone separates us from God, resulting in our spiritual dead condition.

God knew that!

God also knew that He would remedy that condition, by His own righteousness being granted us.

Jesus is the new Adam, new creature that all of us have access to God, not as separate dead souls, but united as one in Him, making God the only God.

The question for mankind is, in the discovering, seeking God out with whatever information is available over time and at the time.

Can we all agree that God does not limit Himself to any one religion?

We, on the other hand do limit God to others by what we think and believe.

The object: is that we can all learn to love one another despite our differences.

Blessings, AJ
“Can we all agree that God does not limit Himself to any one religion?”

sorry, I have to disagree.

I see a lot of opinions on this thread. Interesting reading though for sure.

What is the point of the great commission, evangelism, etc.? Why was Jesus adamant about spreading the good news to the entire planet earth? What did he mean? What were his intentions in saying this? Should we let the Hindu stay Hindu? The Muslim stay Muslim? Is this what Christ wanted? Didn’t Christ know that when he said to spread the gospel to the entire planet that it would run into other religions and clash with them? What did Christ mean by asking us to do this?

Yes - Catholic Christians 🙂

No one can “live… a perfect [C]atholic life”. “Paying attention” is useless, if one has no strong interior life. Ronald Knox pointed that out over 60 years ago. Unless we have a strong interior life, instead of “going through the motions” :(, there is absolutely no way we can persevere in a good life to the end. Take away faith, hope, & charity, & all the knowledge about Catholicism is worth far less than nothing (if that’s possible). 😦

That does not sound like mortal sin. No one can go to Hell unless they try to - it takes effort, deliberation, malice, to do so. Sorry. 🙂

Actually, it’s not accurate: anyone in danger in death who is in mortal sin has only to make an act of contrition, & damnation ceases to be possible. The grace to make an act of contrition is God’s to give: it’s no fault of any man if it’s not given. Mortal sin can’t be committed by mistake. Neither is damnation a mistake - it’s something deserved. Or doesn’t trampling the death of God Incarnate underfoot deserve Hell ?

It doesn’t - the Church does not believe or say it does. Without some degree of contrition on the part of the penitent, no absolution is of any value. And contrition can be had for the asking - by asking God for it. Not just within the sacrament of reconciliation, but outside it, every hour of every day.

What denomination of Christianity are you sir? You do not have it listed in your posting in the upper right hand corner, so I just wanted to see what your theological background is.

Thanks!!

Who goes to hell. Easy question . Since Eternity is a continuation of earthly life who goes to hell will be those people who in this world already have hell in their heart .

👍👍👍

They show it in the way they speak and in the things they do., in their hatred and mockery of all that is good and holy. They will throw themselves into hell because they could not bear to be in the presence of a Holy God.

Unless they are rescued from the Hell within them first… Despite Sartre’s word to the contrary, Hell ISTM is not “other people” - Hell is in the self. Dante’s “Inferno” is at one level an exploration of evil in the soul of man, a laying-bare of it; at another, it’s an exploration of evil within the community. No reading of Dante’s Commedia is complete if people stop in the Inferno - it can’t properly be understood unless one goes all the way from the Dark Forest of Inferno 1, down through Hell to canto 34, all the way up Mount Purgatory, & from the Earthly Paradise at its summit all the way to the Tenth Heaven & the Vision of God at the end of Paradiso 33. But that’s BTW. It is an unequalled answer to the question in the title of the thread.

RC 🙂 - with other influences. The trouble with identifying one’s churchmanship is that, although it can be helpful, it can also be reductive: as though, because people are RC, they could not be Evangelical or Charismatic or other things; plenty of Catholics are all three :p. I hate labels - people are much more interesting than labelling them allows them to be.

The end of the round of rebirths is nirvana. Once you have attained enlightenment you are not reborn any more.

The beginning is not defined:
[The Buddha said:] From an inconstruable beginning comes transmigration. A beginning point is not evident

Assu sutta, Samyutta Nikaya 15.3
All that we need to know is that the process is currently ongoing and we are enmeshed in it.

Fascinating 🙂 Thanks

Simple, but wholly inadequate. We are all sinners, but not all of us will wind up in Hell.
Right. All must go to Purgatory for a cleansing. If you think you are going right to Heaven, well…

Wow People such wonderful discussion on Hell, really interesting reading, absolutely!!!

OneTrueCathApos. Ok I know that is what you believe and I respect that. BUT does Lord Jesus Christ not cleanse us? He came down here to ‘hell’ (at least compared to heaven) and was born as a baby, so he knows exactly what its like firsthand, to grow up and live in the world, as part of His own Creation. And he died on our behalf upon the cross, Paid the penalty for our sins, we are declared innocent when we accept His Gift of Salvation, purchased by the shedding of His Blood.

Why Oh Why do we have to go to purgatory to be cleansed when Lord Jesus has already cleansed us when we believe in Him???

I know it is somewhere in the extra books in your Bible yet it contradicts the rest of Holy Scripture…with respect it should not be there because the Bible should not contradict itself and it does not.

For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Michael.

I agree with you there.
What is the point of the great commission, evangelism, etc.?>>>firstmode
The point is to introduce who the Father is by Jesus Christ and that by Jesus we all have access to the Father.
If then, Jesus is the door to the Father, would it mean then that Jesus is the Father?

And if, Jesus is the only door to the Father, does that mean the Father is limiting only to the saved and not to the lost?

Who are the lost that can not be saved? Is everyone first lost, and then possibly saved?

Jesus said, “I came to save that which was lost”.
In that paragraph above firstmode, you are in your mind limiting the Hindu’s, the Muslim’s and all other religions who do not meet your mindset.

Original sin is the sin of eternal separation which comes to all mankind born in the flesh and in need of a rebirth.

All mankind, not just the Jews, Catholics, Muslim’s, Hindu’s and all others.

You tell me which one of all of them does not die in the flesh, and then I will believe that that one has eternal life.

Don’t we know that to have a rebirth we must first die? Or else, why call it a rebirth?

Jesus said, “Joh 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

Thirst = seek

Regardless of what belief we were born into, God is to them what God is to you.

You define God in your own terms, or in how you wish to declare Him.

That is fine, if you want to believe that.

You may live with that belief hanging over your head, always wondering whether cleansing will be short, long, depending on what terrible sins you’ve committed while in the flesh.

Here’s what Jesus said: Joh 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

Have you drunk of that living water yet? And if you have, what purgatory does it make?

If you are not cleansed upon drinking of that water, then perhaps you should consider a purgatory, for the water you drank was not the one Jesus spoke about.

This water, Jesus spoke about, is everlasting water (Life), spring up in you to everlasting life.
