Yeah pretty much 🤷

Define reverence in the application of the mass.
Well…see that is just it…nothing is set in stone…so clarifying is out?..who made you the forumn police on that one?:onpatrol: No one is allowed to come on here to try and learn anything? Wow! You own CAF?

I surely need that gin and tonic now…

BTW…reverence to me is a slow, orderderly pace to the Mass…not trying to rush it. Not intentially leaving the words out of any part of it, a good homily that preaches about sin, and no loud talking before the Mass…🤷

But others opinion on that may be different. That’s the old and the new…

Geez relax I was being sarcastic hence the 🤷 at the end. I am not forum police and could care less, I am sure the mods have a tough job. Anyone can come one here and learn I think that’s the whole point to this site. What most of us have a prolblem are those who constanctly come on here and act as forum police to make sure that we always add our “disclaimers”.

CITH is a valid way of receiving communion, but honestly, is not kneeling in front of the Blessed Sacrament and not daring to touch it with one’s hands more reverent than cupping it in your hand? I mean, come on!
I walk with a cane, I can’t kneel. Does that make me less reverent than abled bodied 29 year olds (my age) who can kneel?

I think when that issue comes up, it’s in the minds of those who can’t kneel. No offense intended at all, but I have never heard or read the words of, anyone being judgmental toward those who can’t kneel.

But for those of us who can, we should kneel at appropriate times. jmo

It speaks to the heart of the issue though, and that is the heart of the receiver. People would not judge my reverence based on the cane, then why look at my reverence at all?

In my heart I profess the belief in the Real Presence, and that I am consummating my relationship with Christ Jesus through the Sacrament. You would think that’s good enough, cane or no cane.

(Full disclosure; I receive standing, on the tongue currently. Pre-cane I would genuflect before receiving, and receive standing on the tongue).

SO, it seems nauseating to you guys that Traditional Catholics (Ones not infected with liberalism and modernism. Join the definition if you’re not) are concerned about the same group of errors because they see them constantly repeated like gospel, even though the Church never taught said errors?

lol.

See, as a traditionalist, for me, having studied Vatican II and the previous ecumenical councils, it is so frustrating to see a bunch of wannabe-happy-go-lucky-Catholics (not yourselves) who want to dance to the fiddle like Nero as Rome is literally burning.🤷

So many “Ordinary” Catholics are under the delusion that the Church teaches things like Universal salvation, or that limbo is not real, or that anyone outside of the Catholic faith is excused by invincible ignorance, etc, etc, etc.😦

In fact, I could say just as easily that it is annoying how the same old apathetic Catholics constantly mistake “peace at any price” for Charity and cringe at calling a spade a spade. Christ’s faith is worth much more than just being able to feel good about it.

It’s funny, but the most liberal and generous “ordinary” Catholics tend to be the most rabidly anti-tradition. Apparently none of us are suppoesed to remember the last 1,965 years of church Tradition. My bad, I forgot the Church only began at Vatican II.

This isn’t aimed at any of YOU, it is stated in order to bring a balance of perspective. Y’all can be doves, but the Church also needs HAWKS. You can be as liberal and quasi-charitable as you want, but be sure you give me room to be just as rigorist and intransigent as I can within the limits established by the Church.

Perhaps in the end we need each other to sharpen each others perspective, no?
I really like what you have said, I am a traditionalist, not just within church issues but outside of it too. We have family traditions that we keep, even when the kids are way too old for them but it keeps us together, reminds us of where we came from and where we are going, feels right, just like the way the Church should, some things just need to remain.

My husband can’t kneel either, we are at a parish ( with both the OF and EF) where kneeling at the altar rail and receiving on the tongue is the norm. There is a certain place for those that need to stand and it’s never been an issue.

I’m personally tired of infirmity being used as an excuse for universal standing. It’s a straw man argument, no one has been forced to kneel that is unable to.

I edited out as much of your snark as I could. But the point of this thread and that too often people aren’t here for learning about tradition but to rail against it.

Again though, people use this because no one doubts the sincerity of the infirm. Do we need external signs to justify ourselves to others?

(We’re derailing the thread, so this is the last I will say).

Of course not. I’m talking about those who are able to kneel.

Incidentally, I saw a little old lady hold on to the pew, get on first one knee, then the other, then bent her body as much as she could at Eucharistic adoration.

But she was able to do that. Of course if you can’t God understands.

Well Melchior,

Assuming someone is healthy and that they are not wearing something that will reveal their privacy 😃 if they bend over, what would be the reason for not wanting to kneel before the King of Kings and Lord of Lords?

I think the point Melchior_ was trying to make is that physical gestures do not determine “reverence” (gosh, this word has been abused). He has to walk with a cane, but unfortunately, we have people in the world who seem obsessed to the point of infatuation on someone’s body movements.

Besides, the old woman was perfectly free to kneel at Eucharistic Adoration. There is no line so she wouldn’t or couldn’t have been an obstruction to anyone.

Yet a lot of us would not hesitate to curtsy or bow, if you’re a man, when meeting the Queen of England.

But I’m helping to derail the thread. Sorry!

…Because the norm at the OF is to stand. No one should imply that those who do as they have been directed to do and have not been given an option or an aid to kneel are less reverent.

That’s not actually what I’m implying at all. Do what you’re told to do.

I just don’t understand why we went from kneeling to standing. Why did some Bishops feel that was a good thing to do?

And whether it is the norm or not, when presented with an option, I just don’t understand why someone young and healthy would choose the latter.

Sorry-I did not get your sarcasm…

But I see this thread is getting derailed with some of what may be the problem…people will come here to learn but then some people will say things that does make it judgmental such as “I don’t understand why you would not kneel”…well honey its not for you to understand…it’s between me and my Lord… But if you want to kneel and receive COTH…Go ahead…I’m not going to judge that. Now the people I know who are remarried with no annulment and receiving well I struggle with that…

Hmmm…

Because its not the norm
Because I don’t spend my whole hour of adoration each week in that position…
Because in my parish…I’m liable to take out a few parishioners doing so due to the cramped quarters.
Because I don’t feel called to do so
Because the Church does not require it

Exactly. People unable to kneel due to illness or age is not the norm, but most us are understandable of those issues. Most of us present our opinions which many dislike, but we still obey they Church. Most of use here dislike COTH, EOEMs, altar-girls, lay people on the sanctuary, but we accept that the Church allows it, but that many if not all these practices are abused in many areas of the world.

True, but since none of us can read others hearts then actions speak louder than words, or in this case certain actions may speak louder than other actions.

Wait for it…
Its not up to us to judge others while they are receiving the Eucharist. You are right, we don’t know what is in another’s heart. Its between that person and God, so best not to judge how they are receiving as long as it is in accordance to what the Church allows.

Church says we should do a gesture of reverence when receiving standing. So if one is not receiving kneeling, then one should bow or genuflect.
