Iāve never walked out of a confessional convinced if I were to drop dead at that moment Iād go to Heaven or Purgatoryā¦or even after doing my penanceSure. But my point was if kneeling is begging for mercy and its taught by the Church that the Eucharist does not forgive mortal sins but in fact even condemns one who receives the Body and Blood of Christ unworthily, then its not the appropriate time to be begging for mercy.
Then why do angels speak and sing in Latin ?Hahahah, they have it i Aramaic, and we all know that Aramaic >>>>> Latin![]()
Okay but where do we find such a Mass or DL since they all went vernacular?Hahahah, they have it i Aramaic, and we all know that Aramaic >>>>> Latin![]()
After I walk out of confession I always say, ānow will be the best time to dieāIāve never walked out of a confessional convinced if I were to drop dead at that moment Iād go to Heaven or Purgatoryā¦or even after doing my penance
Why ? Because it wonāt be until my time comes until I know if Iāve exceeded my measure.
I see what you are saying. Still, " Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed."⦠is part of the Mass (OF)
And the Agnus Dei
Chaldeans and MaronitesOkay but where do we find such a Mass or DL since they all went vernacular?![]()
But only when theyāre in the Western hemisphere. Then why do angels speak and sing in Latin ?

The closest Maronite to me does it in English and Arabic/English.I think the Maronites use and older form of Aramaic than the Chaldeans.
Iām pretty sure it was Greek because Gabriel said ākecharitomeneā.Then why do angels speak and sing in Latin ?

hhmmm true, very true. But how do we do a virtual 20 paces?![]()
Bold is mine. I guess what I said came out wrong way, I know that many orders have been successful throughout the centuries the integrate other cultures into the Church, this I do not have a problem with, since this is something that has been with us with the beginning of the Church. What I do have a problem is the modern thinking that we should accept these cultures including their religious beliefs and mix them with ours. I also have a problem when a culture is integrated into the western rite, but throw out āourā culture or prohibit us a mass that we spiritually can grow because itās too European or archaic. An example could be a Bishop who makes it difficult for a group of people to have an EF mass every Sunday, but at the same time allows for African style dancing in the liturgy even though the majority of the community is Anglo. I apologize if I came out the wrong way but I hope I made myself much more clear.**Iām really curious whether you would now ask all of these groups to stop what they have been doing for hundreds of years, integrating local culture and Catholic customs? Is it fair to these groups? Is it even appropriate to as them to give up what has become part of Catholic Tradition? Would it not be better to allow each group to continue to do its work the way that it has always done it and to Christianize local culture rather than exclude it? I think it would be very sad to stop something that is part of the Churchās history.**Fraternally,

If only food could solve all our problemsā¦
But, as Christ said, man does not live by bread alone.

Just a little history lesson. The Benedictines, Augustinians and Franciscans grew to be such large orders that they were subdivided into autonomous groups. I believe the Benedictines call each group a congregation. I donāt know what term the Augustinians use. Franciscans use the term obedience. In a nutshell, we all obey the same rule. Our constitutions are different. The constitutions try to fill in the blanks, when a situation arises that the rule does not address. We are bound to the rule, statutes, testament and admonitions of St. Francis. Those cannot be changed. We treat them ALMOST as if they were infallible.Brother JR, this is off topic but what exactly is a Franciscan Form of the Mass? I have seen āFranciscan Traditional Latin Massā on youtube but I thought you said there was no Gregorian chant used in the Franciscan order? Could you clarify why there might be a difference in the Mass among Franciscans?
The FI Minister General has given them permission to celebrate the EF for the public as long as the entire house votes on it. They have several houses that do it regularly. They have a brother, who is not a priest, but he is a Doctor of Liturgy. He did the research and the training of the friars to who wanted to celebrate the EF. He has trained many Franciscans.Iāll let him answer, but there is a group of Franciscans that pray a stunningly reverent Mass.

Interesting stuff. Iām sure they will work it out. ⦠and glad I donāt have to help figure it all out !The FI Minister General has given them permission to celebrate the EF for the public as long as the entire house votes on it. Other Franciscan communities have slightly different rules on it. The Franciscans of the Eternal Word have permission to celebrate it for the faithful on special occasions. Itās not my community, so I donāt know who decides what is and is not a special occasion. My guess is that it would be the Servant.
You said something about each religious institute keeping their forms, but having only the EF or OF for the laity. That will not work, because the religious communities that have their own form and those that have their own rite, canonically and by their own laws, have the right (no pun intended) to use theitr form or their rite, even if the laity is present, such as at a parish. It is understood that when a religious community takes over a ministry, such as a parish, the laity will welcome the authority of the superior, the rule, the constitutions and the customs of that community. If the religious life of the particular community and the pastoral needs of the parish are incompatible, then the religious community does not take the parish. Bishops understand this when they ask a religious community to take over a ministry. The bishop and the laity cannot ask for anything contrary to the laws of the community.
The only way around this would be for the pope to go around the Council of Trent, which gave exempt status to certain individual religious who meet the criteria. He would have to declare that there are no longer exempt religious. What do you do with orders like the Benedictines and Franciscans, which are not orders of priests, but have priests? Do you impose priestly rules on the entire order? Do you split the order by putting some under one set of rules and the others under another set of rules? Vatican I tried to do that and it proved a disaster. Ven. Pius XII and Vatican II had to fix it.
This whole EF thing is proving to be interesting. Itās going to take some creative thinking where the religious men are concerned.

It is very interesting. The one good thing that has already come out of the Sacred Congregation for Religious is that orders like the Benedictines and Franciscans will not have to go back to the 19th century when we were split 60/40, where there was one set of rules for the ordained and another for the non ordained. The Sacred Congregation has said that will not happen again. It acknowledges that this was a mistake and contrary to the vision of Benedict and Francis.Interesting stuff. Iām sure they will work it out. ⦠and glad I donāt have to help figure it all out !
Lol I agree! I do wish I had a solid education in Liturgy though.Interesting stuff. Iām sure they will work it out. ⦠and glad I donāt have to help figure it all out !
