Who is better? Protestant or Catholic

Look in your bible. In 100% of the cases, our Lord Jesus told the sinner, in plain Aramaic, that their sins were forgiven. They did not doubt. They did not presume. They knew. Matthew 9:2, Mark 2:5, Luke 5:20, 7:48

Jesus gave power over sin to the Twelve. (John 20:23) How can they forgive if no one confesses to them? You cannot forgive what you do not know.

Saint Paul had a ministry of reconciliation - to those already Christian (2 Cor 5). What is that? He urged Christians to be reconciled with God (2 Cor 5:20). How and why?

Saint Paul forgave sins in the person of Christ. The Person of Christ, acting as Christ and with the authority of Christ (2 Cor 2:10) He forgave sins for the sake of the Church - the living, breathing Body of Christ. Romans 12:5, 1 Cor 12:12, 12:27.

And James counsels us to “confess your sins to one another” (James 5:16)

But, setting the bible aside, confession and absolution is how Christianity has been practiced since AD 33. The unified, universal, “Catholic” Church. Even after the great schism, both West and East, Catholic and Orthodox. Universally.

Then came someone in Germany 1,500 years later who convinced himself he knew better. After his revolt, what Christ had done has slowly unraveled.

So my question is: Why do you not follow the bible and confess your sins to someone who sits in the person of Christ?

I think St John Henry Neman’s advice is relevant here: To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant.

To understand why it is “better” to be Catholic, it is necessary to read a lot of history, especially the history of the early church.

By the way, you seem to have a quite utilitarian approach of religion based on whether or not it is easy on your sins. I don’t think this is either useful or healthy.
Exactly. OSAS - to assume that one is saved and that their sins have already been paid for produces a lazy, unprofitable faith, as I see it. And dangerous both to self and others if sin is rendered meaningless.
“Go, and sin no more”
…seems to ring a bell.

The problem with the early church is that even the man you claim to be your first pope mislead people. That is why early church history is subject to fallacies. See Galatians 2:14. Also remember God’s chosen people are the Jews, and where are they today? Men/man has a long history of falling away. Even Moses, the man who spoke face to face with God made mistakes. Look I’m not here to put down the Catholic Church. I’m simply trying to understand. I’m trying to seek His face. I’m trying to build a relationship with God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

God’s religion? Judaism. People of “the way” is what Christ started per say not Catholicism. I’m not quite sure exactly when Catholicism got started. I could be wrong.

Protestants are good people. But the Catholic Church is the one true Church. Enough said.

Judaism isn’t God’s religion. Yes, Jesus was a jew, but Jesus definitely founded the Catholic Church. 🙂
