Who is your Catholic Hero? Last 100 years please.

Me its JP2.

I voted for JP2, but my american heroes are Fr. Groeshel and Fr.Corapi. Mother Angelica is right up there, also.

My Mom, for it is her who brought me into this world and made me Catholic. Thanks Mom!

Good stuff!

Pope Pius XII.

Much maligned by anti-Catholics, but when you read what he wrote, examine what he did, and realize the courage he must have had to do both–amazing!

Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati- JPII called him the “Man of the Beatitudes.” How about that for a compliment!

Mother Teresa;

Who can resist her statement that the Bible doesn’t say anything about being successful–just being faithful?

Peace

I have far too many to select just one, although John Paul II stands out just a bit.

Bishop Sheen, the good folks at EWTN, Fathers Groeshcel and Corapi…

The Martyrs of the Mexican Revolution in the early part of the 20th century, Blessed Miguel Pro among them…

The Martyrs of the Spanish Civil War in the 1930s…

The Martyrs of the Nazi regime, including St. Maximillian Kolbe & Edith Stein…

The Martyrs of Communist agression everywhere - Ukraine, Poland, the rest of Europe, Vietnam, Cuba…

Cardinal Archbishop Husar of the Ukraninan Greek Catholic Church is a modern day hero. He has the formidable task of the continuation of the restoration of the UGCC.

I couldn’t choose just one. Bishop Sheen, Fr. Corapi and Mother Theresa have all inspired me. I was just thinking…I wonder if our Catholic students are exposed to these inspiring role models? Are they taught and talked about in our Catholic schools? From reading some of the other Catholic websites, I see that our children are being exposed to and taught some pretty strange stuff. It seems to me, to expose the kids to the Catholic view from these respected Catholics could only be a good thing. Sheen left a legacy of TV lectures, and Fr. Corapi’s lectures are also available. I’m sure there are good books/documentaries made on Mother Theresa. Let’s promote them as an antidote to the “feel good” agenda. Maybe we’ll see some kids take up their crosses and follow their example and we will really see a Springtime in the Church.

It’s so easy for me to say JPII, but I’m a history-obsessed person, so I’ll say “Other” and write in Pope John XXIII. It would have been interesting to live during his pontificate, especially with JFK as president.

Where is Saint Padre Pio on the list?

John Paul the Great is who I voted for, but I would have liked to vote 50% to Blessed Theresa of Calcutta as just as important.

Fr. Corapi has probably the greatest testimony I have ever heard and is the greatest “speaker” in the church alive today.

Scott Hahn one day will be on this list.

Bishop Sheen is the most powerful speaker I ever heard.

Hi Ted,

I couldn fit everyone on the list is why I put the other option. Padre Pio and Scott Hahn are heroes for sure!

I am going to stand up for Pope Pius XII. I know he gets some bad press, but saving 800,000+ Jews makes him ok by me.

I voted for other, not to eliminate any of those already named from my list of great Catholics, but because I have to put the name of G. K. Chesterton into the mix.

Fulton Sheen thought him the greatest apologist of the 20th century. Chesterton was named “defender of the faith” by Pope Pius XI for his works Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man (as I recall those were the books that earned him that title). People like C. S. Lewis and others too numerous to name were influenced by his prolific writings. You’ve got to love that kind of Catholic!

We need a thousand more Fulton Sheens. There was a man who truly deserved to be addressed as “your excellency”. 👍
