Who loves anime here?

Well, think about logically. Why would anyone call it a two-handed sword… when it’s not that long and you wield it with one-hand?

I mean even I am not that much of a sword expert but from my own RPG experience, one-handed swords are usually held with well… one hand. :\

Heck, at the very least Asuna’s rapier would definitely be classified because even real-life rapiers are all one-handed weapons.

Some do that for the “action” effect; which is generally ineffective.

I am not much of a sword expert either. But, I’ve seen characters in other series hold one-handed swords with both hands.

Personally, I am traumatized by how the knight-type classes in certain MMORPGs only use two-handed swords. It’s too mainstream. D:

Generally (and I stress, generally), two-handed swords are heavier and hence, it gives the visual effect of being more powerful but at the cost of requiring two-hands to lift. One-handed weapons can be held like two-handed but I suspect that is also to the same effect. Physics wise, it can be reasonable to assume there’s more force exerted on a weapon held that way.

And in the case of Asuna, for example, you also have characters strictly adhering to a one-handed discipline for bonus benefits. There are also characters who wield giant, one-handed weapons but usually have the arm strength for it.

I guess in the end, as far as fiction goes, it is also about the style as much as the weapon used.

As for knights, my experienced has been mixed. I’ve seen knight-archetypes use a certain range:

Sword n Shield
Sword n Mace/Hammer
Two-Handed Hammer/Mace
Lance/Spear n Shield
Two-Handed Sword

Exactly.
And yet, usage of heavy one-handed swords like the knightsword tends to evoke heavy levels of power. 🙂

Thanks to Ragnarok Online and Flyff, it’s all about two-handed swords and spears until I started playing ROSE online.
 
Ugh. I hate two handed swords. Why? Because they’re SLOW. I’m all about speed. I don’t care if a one handed does less damage. In the end if you can swing faster then the guy with the big damage weapon, you can kill faster.

With me, it’s more about a balance of power and speed. A European knightsword is perfect for it.

Japanese samurai (and Guts) would like to have a word with you because katanas are two handed weapons and very fast if you have the right reflexes.

All this talk about swords, who in your opinion guys is the most badass and cool character in all of fiction? Despite how much I love Kenshin Himura and Edward Elric, I have to say, Guts is the msot badass character ever amde ever. Not only does he look cool, he is so cool because despite having a crappier life than most characters in fiction, he NEVER gives up. Spike Spiegel? Who’s Spike Spiegel? The man doesn’t care whether he lives or dies and doesn’t care much or even attempts tore much for his friends. While Guts came off as this at first, he learned how to become a better person and is fiercely protective of his true companions.

Guts: the only character who can actually defeat and mermalize Alucard from Hellsing.

Two-handed swords come in as much variety as any other weapon. Some swords have a light appearance (e.g. katana and longsword) Others look real heavy (e.g. buster sword, broad sword) Again, it’s also about style. Case In Point: Cloud Strife.

P.S.

Personally, I’m more of a dual-wielder type, spellsword, or gun-n-sword type of guy though. 😛

By two-handed swords, I’m referring more with the Western ones, not the katana.
I swear, Western two-handed swords are everywhere!

If you play Ragnarok Online and play as Knight, you will rethink about the speed of 2-hand sword after you see the 2-hand quicken. 😃

That’s why I prefer playing ROSE online instead. :3
At least the Knight there can use crossbows, one-handed swords and shields. 🙂
 
Guys, all this talk about two hnaded swords aside, I’m BORED, as in tear jerkingly bored. I don’t have that much appetite to watch some of the anime I have on my planner 9except Hayate no Gotoku and Berserk. In fact, those are the only anime and manga I’m looking forward to seeing and reading right now).

Say guys, one thing we have enver discussed alot on this forum is anime music. Are there any anime songs that you really like or which you lsiten to all the time? I even made a playlist dedicated to my favorite anime songs: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnvjV0gn7VE2aOEyOxFW_bkRC32Xzf715&feature=mh_lolz. What are your favorites? I’m not merely alking about opening or ending themes, whole soundtrack can even be included. Personally, my most favorite anime soundtracks are those from Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Rurouni Kenshin, Berserk and Death Note. The soundtracks of Hayate no Gotoku also have a special place in my heart for being so sweet and making me all nostalgic while the FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood soundtrack is also very good.

I hate anime music.

The only music I’ve enjoyed so far has been the music in Wolf’s Rain and the music in Naruto and Prince of Tennis. The rest I just find irritating.

Mind you I don’t really like Japanese music so that’s probably why. 🤷

I love pretty much the whole soundtracks to NOIR, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040, Akira, Berserk, Cowboy Bebop, El Cazador de la Bruja, Heroic Age, Gundam SEED, Kaiba, Key the Metal Idol, Macross Frontier, Escaflowner movie, Toward the Terra, The Soul Taker, Intrigue in the Bakumatsu - Irohanihoheto, Ghost in the Shell movie, Samurai Champloo, Paprika, Moonlight Mile, Earth Girl Arjuna, Seirei no Moribito, Tetsuwan no Birdy Decode, Yokazura Quartet, Macross 7, Superdimensional Fortress Macross, Guin Saga, Sora no Woto, Claymore, Zone of the Enders Dolores i, Murder Princess. I’ll start with just OP and ED themes for now if you don’t mind. 😛 Here are few of my recent faves:
  1. RAKUEN PARADISE - To Love-ru Darkness (To those who know the anime/manga… please don’t ask. >_>)
  2. Crossing Field - Sword Art Online (For obvious reasons)
  3. Life is SHOW TIME - Kamen Rider Wizard (Not an anime technically but toku is still part of Japanese pop culture)
  4. Overfly - Sword Art Online (Same obvious reasons… and there’s no full version yet! NUUU!!! DX)
The rest are some of my old favorites:
  1. Butterfly Kiss - Groove Adventure Rave (I love the feelings of traveling and adventure that this song gives…)
  2. Chain - Air Gear (I wish AT were real… I wanna grab the sky and fly free to the blue world!!! YEAH!!!)
  3. Snow Fairy - Fairy Tail (We. Are. FAIRY TEIRU!!! holds up guild sign)

Well I can’t say that’s any worse than linking several music vids while simultaneously describing what goes on in your head as you listen to them. :whacky:
