Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! - this is such a good show! I’ll be getting this on BD for sure. It’s made by Kyoto Animation who also made K-ON! Think K-ON! but cuter!
Suddenly all other anime sucks… hehe.

?? I’ve seen plenty of shonen manga with handsome young men!!!

Dragonball has Trunks.
Naruto has … well, everyone.
Prince of Tennis has plenty cuties to choose from.

I wouldn’t call that fanservice necessarily. Good looking characters are just generally more appealing.

PS: I have friends who see yaoi in EVERYTHING. Anytime there is a semi-cute guy in an anime, manga or TV show they can twist it into yaoi. It’s really quite amazing how they can do that.

We’re equivocating on what fanservice is, basically calling anything aesthetically pleasing fanservice. That’s why your latest acquisition is not really fanservic-y. It’s just got more guys in it than usual. Which is OK. Don’t worry :).

No, really SIGH.

To me there are different types of fanservice. 😃

Yaoi fanservice would be deliberately having your male characters flirt with and/or touch each other.

Girl fanservice would be coming up with ridiculous scenarios that would never, ever happen but that every girl wishes would happen to her. 😛

Guy fanservice would be those skinny guy manages to beat up muscled guy and then gets the girl. HEE

But pretty characters? That, to me, isn’t fanservice. AND YES I AM GOING ON ABOUT THIS. Slow day at work. It’s something to talk about!

Well if someone adores pretty characters, they’ll watch the show even if the story sucks. 🙂

Take all these shows pandering to moe adoring fans. Adding more and more moe characters just makes people watch the show more, but the story can be lame, who cares, they just want their favourites to get screen time.

For me fan service is a good, solid storyline with excellent music to please my ears. 😉

Best avoid TV Tropes as thee people there see gay relationships in absolutely everything, even the most banal acts of affection between people of the same and between children. Anyway, personally, I hate fanservice, especially if it is blatant. Some dramatic scenes in Kenichi were totally ruined because of the in your face fanservice although story wise, it was still good. Some times in Kenichi though, I had to OK the fanservice because what would otherwise be revealing or indecent poses actually provided very good fight scenes-sometimes.

My opinion is that while it is far from wrong to give eye candy or cute girls/guys in order for people to enjoy looking at them, I don’t think it is appropriate to sexualize them. Besides, who doesn’t love kawaii?:rolleyes:
 
Ok guys, my Baccano! DVD has finally arrived and watched the first episode and, while very good it was rather confusing. There were a lot of names I didn’t get the first time but overall, it was good and I want more.

Great, in theatre :). That’s always better. I only saw Spirited Away in theaters and it was a special screening a group of us organised with a local theatre for only one showing years ago. But I have everything on Region 2 Japanese DVDs except for Princess Mononoke (Region 1 DVD). These last two above I have on Japanese release Region Free Blurays - but it helps to have a region free Bluray player as I import DVDs/BDs from around the world. I don’t believe in DVD/BD region restrictions, and thankfully neither does Studio Ghibli Japan - all their BD stuff is region free and has English subtitles :). I must still watch these last two though, have been putting them off… hehe. 🙂

I don’t really mind dubs, but with DVD/BD you can have both soundtracks usually.

I know rite? I mean I found it extremely funny (still do) but the art is just a major turn-off. And when you think about it, it’s quite something to see the contrast between One Piece artwork and Fairy Tail artwork when the artists of both were inspired by the same guy. o_O;;

Manga is relatively ‘shorter’ because the Naruto anime has definitely one of the worst cases of Filler Hell compared to others. In terms of the canon (stressed for why it should be teh only thing dat matters) storyline, it is good and very well structured.

And the best part is: It doesn’t give you that rushed feel. q:

I’'ll try it out but not before I finish Baccano! which I’m REALLY loving and maybe Now, Then, Here and There. I’ll also be buying another DVD box set as a treat from my dad but I’m finding it difficult what to choose. I’m thinking of buying the aforemented NTHT or Wolf’s Rain, Darker than Black or Durarara! After watching those anime, I don’t know how far my hobby will go because I’d have finished watching all the good stuff by then.

Have u thought about Steins;Gate? It’s now on special at Rightstuf, all Funimation stuff is on sale for another day.

And what about the Kurenai, DVD box? I have this title too, but haven’t watched past episode 5. Not enough time.

I know I would like to see an anime which has not made to licensing yet: It’s called Real Drive and is from Production IG.

Tenofovir, I have to ask you something, without meaning to sound rude of course: why don’t you like anime that are what I’d call depressing? You even said that Higurashi was bad because it had what practically are teenagers killing each other without looking into other themes it explores like friendship, isolation and fatalism. It isn’t battle royale where people kill each other because the plot demands that they do, it’s not exploitation because the depressing stuff and the emotion are used to make us care for the characters, not for enjoyment of their suffering.
 
Well I just finished watching episode 2 of Sword Art Online. Will make a commitment to watch it again tomorrow.

As far as what I think, well I’m already making a fan character in my head if that means anything. I still think the premise is a set up for some tragedy and would find it very scary to be in that situation. ><;;; If I were in that game, I’d be cooping myself up in an inn for days before considering a course of action. >>;;;
 
To say that the Habsburg anthem is learned from the Hetalia series is an insult to Haydn at the very least!
I swear, I’ve seen many Hetalia fangirls (sane and rabid) say this idiocy out and aloud. Did they not listen in history class?
