Who says the Bible is not to be taken literally?

In the Bible as creation is described, each day is described specifically as the morning and evening passing. There is no mistake that the Bible is literally claiming that in 6 days the Earth was made.

I think @MikeySee is laughing at his keyboard right now.

Or else he’s very, very angry and frustrated and needs to act out at someone to justify feeling angry and frustrated.

The question is: Who says the Bible is not to be taken literally?
Nobody seems to able to identify the person with the authority to claim that the word of God does not mean what it says.

If you are claiming that it took longer than 6 days to make the Earth, then you’re saying that the Bible is a lie.
No I’m not. I’m simply rejecting your interpretation and not limiting God to six days. See how silly that last part sounds? Please stop doing the same with me.

I believe God created logic and God created science as God is the source of all truth. And the truth of the matter is that we have heavy radioactive isotopes whose half-lives do not match with a literal six-days creation story. The science behind half-lives is not limited to just archaeology and astrophysics, but medicine as well. PET scans rely on the concept of half-lives. If they were wrong, we would either not be able to do PET images at all, or patients would possibly injured of radiation poisoning since the technetium in their bodies is still decaying.

What does the sun and moon have to do with it? Do you think that light only comes from the sun?

Tradition and scripture has been a hallmark of Catholicism since the beginning. There is no single “who.” You’ll have to take it up with the 12 Apostles when you get a chance.

Not always. Sometimes it comes from compact florescent tubes, halogen bulbs, LEDs, etc. Or a candle. Or an oil lamp. Or a forest fire. Or a glowing fish in the deep sea.

As i said i believe it personally what the bible says is true Jn 17:17 ,and i don’t bother if any one doesn’t want to believe, 2 Peter 3:8 .on both ways the Bible is right!🤣

Because of sin God had reduced the the Years of man fro a thousand to 100 or 120 years Genesis 6;3 Then the Lord said, “My spirit shall not abide in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years.”

You don’t have to prove anything if other dont believe ,i personally believe its 6 Days of creation ,but you dont have to force any one to believe but just say you disagree

Have you noticed that within the last 1000 years when you read the history of science, science has had to change their story again and again through out history. The Bible story has not changed. Who’s correct? The word of God or the guy in the lab coat?

It’s not either/or. Faith and science are not incompatible - they deal with different things.

What are you talking about? It doesn’t bother me one bit if you disagree or agree with me.

We’ll there’s this guy over in Italy that runs around in a white dress with a funny white beanie . . .

What in, well, Heaven’s name does that have to do with biblical literalism . . .

I suppose you should be congratulated on a successful troll, but . . .

You’re twisting and turning every which way and refuse to accept reality. There are only a few reasons to act irrationally–frustration and anger are two of them.

Sure. Because we have technology and understanding that has built over time. We stand “on the shoulders of giants”, to paraphrase Newton. Science deals with the understanding of natural phenomena, unlike theology. Both inform the other of the world. They are not contradictory.
The Bible story has not changed.
Well technically it did with the coming of Jesus. The Gospels were never part of the Old Testament. They are, appropriately so, a part of the New Testament.

Both can be correct.
